Functional harmony approach from 5 filin guitarists analysis
El presente trabajo pretende realizar un acercamiento a la armonía funcional, desde el análisis de 5 guitarristas intérpretes del genero bolero “Filin”.“Filin” bolero is a musical genre rooted in Cuba that has been the result of the American culture influence on the island. One of the main features is the use of sophisticated harmonies reflected on instruments like the guitar. This work wants to take an approach to the functional harmony based on the analysis of 5 guitarists performers of the Bolero “Filin” genre
Is it just about love : Filin and politics in pre-revolutionary Cuba
This thesis is concerned with the role of Filin music in processes of social and political change. It examines how Filin, a style of Cuban urban folk music that developed in Havana in the 1940s and 50s, was constitutive of the historical context in which it developed and consequently, how Filineros expressed their social realities in their songs. Many Filineros were associated with leftist organizations such as the People’s Socialist Party, workers’ unions, and with underground activism. They lived in times of political upheaval and widespread mobilization preceding the Revolution of 1959. However, their songs’ lyrics seem to ignore Filineros’ political lives, and focus solely on romance and the intimacy of love. This thesis addresses this paradox: Why does there seem to be such a disjuncture between Filineros’ affiliative and oppositional activities and their romantic and self-contained lyrics?
Drawing from Filineros memories, this paper explains Filin lyrics’ detachment from the oppositional mobilization the musicians were involved in. First, the repression against communism that followed the post-WWII years in Cuba prevented Filineros from openly expressing their leftist views and activist experiences in their songs’ lyrics. Secondly, Filineros understood Filin as a creative outlet and artistic experience, and not as an instrument for political opposition. Thirdly, some of the Filin musicians interviewed believed that music was impotent to create substantial social or political change.
Nevertheless, beyond Filineros’ worldview, I argue that Filin songs not only carry aesthetic meaning as expressions of human emotions, but that the practice of Filin constituted them as political actors. Filin gatherings’ sequential participatory features, and consequently, Filin's functions as social entertainer and artistic unifier highlight this music’s agency; Filin's uniting power as a musical movement promoted a sense of affiliation among Filineros in which political practices and ideologies were shaped and solidified. In other words, it is through music making that Filineros’ ideas, values and ways of life were stimulated and mobilized. As such, Filin music was constitutive of new political identities, and constructed its political relevance more through the context of lived experience than through its musicological traits, its lyrics, or even its musicians’ intentions.Arts, Faculty ofHistory, Department ofGraduat
Suomi on teemamaana Frankfurtin kirjamessuilla vuonna 2014.
My thesis deals with internationalization and promotion of mobility of writers by FILI (Finnish Literature Exchange).
The objective of my thesis is to examine how the administrative processes of FILI’s mobility support should be developed, in order to serve both the traveling writers as well as the organizing parties abroad. An important aspect is also the development of FILI’s internal processes.
FILI supports annually writers’ visits to 50-70 literature events around the world. The writers appear in book fairs, literature festivals and increasingly travel to launching and marketing events to publicize their translated works. Finland will be a Guest of Honor at the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair. The Frankfurt Book Fair is the most important event of the world in the area of literature and media, and therefore the status of Guest of Honor is a challenging export effort for Finland, Finnish writers, publishing companies and the entire literature branch – as well as for the implementing organization FILI. Solely during the fair week around 50 Finnish writers will appear at the fair to present their work. The Frankfurt theme project is much more than merely a book fair event that lasts less than a week: it is an export project of Finnish culture that lasts the whole year and is implemented in cooperation with the German field of culture.
My thesis starts by examining the activities and operating environment of FILI, and explaining the part that the mobility support for writers has in FILI’s work. To form the background for the development of administrative processes I have charted out the support forms of three organizations managing mobility support: The Cultural Program of the European Union, the Mobility Support Programs of the Nordic Culture Point, and the programs of the Central Council of Art. After the comparative analysis I chose as the theoretical background the standardization of the processes and through this the service formulation of the activities. Viewpoints of writers are studied by analyzing travel reports.
As conclusion I present concrete ideas for development, assess the applicability of my development initiative in practice in my own organization as well as the possibilities to adapt the developed activity models in other artistic sectors
Fisherfolks’ Perception of the Agricultural Radio Programme Filin Mainoma in Kainji Area of Niger State
The study examined fisherfolks’ perception of the agricultural radio programme FILIN MAINOMA in Kainji Area of Niger State. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 252 respondents from the study area. Primary data were collected using structured interview guide. Data collected wereanalysed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) and Chi-Square analysis (c2). Results showed that the mean age of the respondents was 25.50 years while majority (96.60%) was male. Also 63.10% had no formal education while 22.70% had primary school education. Also, Majority (99.20%) of the respondents was aware of and listened to the radio programme FILIN MAINOMA. All (100.00%) of the respondents had access to radio. Majority (98.80%) of the respondents opined that the message was interesting, 67.10% spent one hour listening to the radio programme in the morning every day. In addition, 38.90% of the respondents viewed fishing information on the radio programme as relevant, while 26.90% indicated that the format of presentation of the programme aroused their interest. Chi-Square analysis revealed that sex (c2 = 78.70, (p<0.05), df = 1), educational status (c2 = 2.41, df = 4), had significant association with the respondents perception of the programme. Also, correlation analysis results revealed a significant and positive relationship between the household size (r = 0.21, p<0.05), and year of membership association (r = 0.24, p<0.05), and respondents’ perception of the radio programme. The study concluded that FILIN MAINOMA had impact on fisherfolks cash per unit effort. The study recommended that the programme should be strengthened and sustained while other similar programmes can be initiated in other radio stations in the area
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
