Presentation and book signing for A Face from Uranus: Correspondence Between Tedd Burr and Henry Bellamann 1943-1945.
Author Lenny Pinna will give a presentation and book signing for A Face from Uranus: Correspondence Between Tedd Burr and Henry Bellamann 1943-1945. Lenny researched the Henry and Katherine Bellamann Collection to help produce this book. As part of the presentation he will donate all of the correspondence between Burr and Bellamann to the Archives.
A little bit about the book: It\u27s 1943. As World War II commands the world\u27s stage, nineteen year old Tedd Burr struggles with his own private battle-gender identity. After receiving a draft notice, Tedd reaches out in desperation to Henry Bellamann, author of the best-selling 1940 novel Kings Row, for advice. Tedd imagines that the author who wrote sympathetically in his novel about a boy who was too pretty for a boy might be able to help him in some way. And he\u27s right. Henry responds, initiating a warm correspondence that deepens into a relationship that lasts until Henry\u27s death in 1945. This book publishes for the first time all the letters from Tedd and Henry\u27s correspondence.
Rachael Price, Associate Professor of English at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College writes that the book “captures with poignant clarity the experiences of a young man struggling with his genderqueer identity in the 1940s Midwest.”
Later at 7pm, Lenny Pinna will screen his film Letters to Uranus: The Hidden Life of Tedd Burr in Archives and Special Collections
Ethnic differences in returning home: explanations from a life course perspective
Ethnic differences in leaving and returning home may reflect varying cultural norms regarding intergenerational coresidence, but also differences in transitions in linked domains, e.g. employment and partnership transitions. This study uses Dutch population register data to compare returning home among second-generation Turks, Moroccans, Surinamese, and Antilleans with native Dutch who had left the parental home between age 16 and 28 in the period 1999-2011 (N=194,020). All second-generation groups were found to be more likely to return home than native Dutch. A large part of these differences was related to the timing and occurrence of other key events in the life course, such as age at leaving home and partnership dissolution. Although the impact of partnership dissolution on returning home was found to be strong among all origin groups, it was less pronounced among second-generation youth, particularly Turks and Moroccans, than native Dutch youth. Possible explanations and implications are discussed

Webhosting development in Indonesia is growing rapidly and promise,
along with the development and use of Internet technology. This development
must be followed by companies more and more competitive in the hosting
industry. Webhosting is one form of rental services on the Internet that enables
individuals or organizations to display a web page on the Internet.
Currently almost all web hosting companies that use the interface to pay
much, so the user or users in wearing expensive to have a hosting with a
maximum capacity. Can be concluded that the web hosting needs can not be
avoided, so that here the authors take the initiative to create a product with a
server hosting a free user interface.
At the time the website has been created and the web so it can be seen by
everyone on the Internet so we need a system that is usually called the Web
Server. With the use of the Linux operating system with Debian Lenny 5.0
software contained therein, we can create their own web hosting with the same
facilities as a webhosting company that provides web hosting services. The author
uses the local network as a pilot in the making of web hosting.

Interview with Lenny Kaye
Lenny Kaye has been Patti Smith’s long term guitarist, friend and collaborator, ever since they first began together in the early 1970s. He grew up between New York and New Jersey, graduating in American History from Rutgers University, where he later taught a course in the Department of American Studies on the History of American Rock, which became famous because of the large number of students who wanted to enroll in it. A very prolific writer and musician, he has produced an important number of records, as well as collaborated with numerous music magazines. He is the author of two books, Waylon Jennings: An Autobiography (1996) and You Call it Madness, The Sensuous Song of the Croon (2004). Nuggets (1972), his anthology of 60s garage music, is famous for defining the genre. This interview took place when he was visiting Spain in November 2012 with the Patti Smith Group. In it, we discussed the New York scene of the 70s, music, literature, drugs, politics, and many other things
L-Serine biosensor-controlled fermentative production of L-tryptophan derivatives by Corynebacterium glutamicum
Ferrer L, Elsaraf M, Mindt M, Wendisch VF. L-Serine biosensor-controlled fermentative production of L-tryptophan derivatives by Corynebacterium glutamicum. Biology. 2022;11(5): 744.l-Tryptophan derivatives, such as hydroxylated or halogenated l-tryptophans, are used in therapeutic peptides and agrochemicals and as precursors of bioactive compounds, such as serotonin. l-Tryptophan biosynthesis depends on another proteinogenic amino acid, l-serine, which is condensed with indole-3-glycerophosphate by tryptophan synthase. This enzyme is composed of the α-subunit TrpA, which catalyzes the retro-aldol cleavage of indole-3-glycerol phosphate, yielding glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and indole, and the β-subunit TrpB that catalyzes the β-substitution reaction between indole and l-serine to water and l-tryptophan. TrpA is reported as an allosteric actuator, and its absence severely attenuates TrpB activity. In this study, however, we showed that Corynebacterium glutamicum TrpB is catalytically active in the absence of TrpA. Overexpression of C. glutamicumtrpB in a trpBA double deletion mutant supported growth in minimal medium only when exogenously added indole was taken up into the cell and condensed with intracellularly synthesized l-serine. The fluorescence reporter gene of an l-serine biosensor, which was based on the endogenous transcriptional activator SerR and its target promoter PserE, was replaced by trpB. This allowed for l-serine-dependent expression of trpB in an l-serine-producing strain lacking TrpA. Upon feeding of the respective indole derivatives, this strain produced the l-tryptophan derivatives 5-hydroxytryptophan, 7-bromotryptophan, and 5-fluorotryptopha

Trapped in an investment scam: Lived experiences of Gen Zers
Corresponding author: Lenny Rose P. Mucho
Journal articleThe purpose of this constructivist research was to examine Gen Zers’ experiences, actions, and circumstances that contribute to their vulnerability to be scammed. Using thematic analysis, the study found new reasons that motivated Gen Z individuals to respond to and remain engaged with scam offers. These are personal constraints, internal influences, and trust. Having been scammed resulted to emotional and psychological aftermath. In addition, Gen Zers’ experiences revealed that scam victimization was connected to impulsivity.Central Philippine Universit
Childhood Fables for Grownups
There are six fables included in this pamphlet of some 36 large-format pages. They include: Polaroli; Tigeroo; Lenny the Leopard; The Frog and the Snake; Two Worms; and The Duck and the Yak. The texts are at least partially whimsical; there may not even be a story told. Thus Polaroli is a declaration that a polar bear named Polaroli loves to eat frozen things. The zookeeper threatens to call the lion-doctor in to examine Tigeroo if he keeps eating so much, and then Tigeroo threatens to eat the doctor too! Lenny the Leopard paints over his spots and looks ridiculous, but his mother proclaims that she still loves him. The frog tells the approaching snake that he is not a frog but a golliwogg, and that a golliwogg eaten by a snake gives the snake a tummy-ache. A lonely worm finds another worm, they marry, and now they wiggle their way through life. A young duckling once wanted to become a yak, and a young yak wanted to become a duck. But it could not happen in either case. A duckling can only become a duck. There is a copyright date of 1959 on The Duck and the Yak.By Irving Fine; Verses by Gertrude Norma
