Delivering genetic education and genetic counseling for rare diseases in rural Brazil
No full textBrazil is the largest country in Latin America, with an ethnically diverse, Portuguese-speaking and predominantly Roman Catholic population of some 194 million. Universal health care is provided under the Federal Unified Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde) but, as in many other middle and low income countries, access to medical genetics services is limited in rural and remote regions of the country. Since there is no formally recognized Genetic Counseling profession, genetic counseling is provided by physicians, trained either in medical genetics or a related clinical discipline. A comprehensive medical genetics program has been established in Monte Santo, an inland rural community located in the state of Bahia in Northeast Brazil, with high prevalences of a number of autosomal recessive genetic disorders, including non-syndromic deafness, phenyketonuria, congenital hypothyroidism and mucopolysaccharidosis VI (Maroteaux-Lamy syndrome). Estuda as lesões procedentes das variáveis relativas as características funcionais do servidor, do acidente e do atendimento (laudo) médico. Occupational Accidents And Health-related Quality Of Life: A Study In Three Hospitals [accidentes De Trabajo Y Calidad De Vida: Un Estudio En Tres Hospitales]
No full textThis study analyzed the occurrence of occupational accidents among hospital workers between 2000 and 2005 and health-related quality of life of a sample of injured workers in 2005. Data obtained through occupational accident reports indicated 286 injured workers. In typical accidents (91.6%), accidents with piercing-cutting instruments affected 68.5% of workers. The results related to health-related quality of life obtained from 61 injured workers in 2005, through the SF-36 Medical Outcomes Study 36 - item short form health survey, evidenced high average values in most of the analyzed domains, while the lowest score observed was Vitality and Bodily Pain. Prevention Of Mental Retardation: Knowledge And Perception By Health Professionals [prevenção Da Deficiência Mental: Conhecimento E Percepção Dos Profissionais De Saúde]
No full textThis article aimed to evaluate the prevention of mental disability in primary healthcare services in Maringá, Paraná, Brazil. The sample consisted of 90 male and female physicians from different fields, namely gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, general practice, and family health, as well as 66 male and female nurses. A multiple-choice questionnaire was filled out by the subjects themselves from August to December 2003. Qualitative variables were compared using the qui-square test at 5% significance level. Partial data relating to both the perception and knowledge of health professionals concerning mental disability were as follows: 75% were unable to choose the correct alternative on prevalence; 25% did not know how the genome contributes to etiology; 37% were unaware of prevention for mental disability; 28% were not confident in providing orientation on the teratogenic effect of ethanol; 35% demonstrated insecurity in orienting patients on amniocentesis. Gerência do cuidado em enfermagem hospitalar: apresentando noções e competências

Programa de Pós-graduação em EnfermagemA gerência do cuidado é uma importante ação do enfermeiro e cujos conhecimentos e competências ou aptidões vem sendo objeto de melhor definição frente à complexidade das organizações em saúde e das interações mobilizadas nos sistemas de cuidado. O presente estudo bibliográfico de caráter exploratório e de abordagem qualitativa teve por objetivo apresentar noções e competências da gerência do cuidado de enfermagem hospitalar pelo olhar da complexidade. O estudo foi realizado mediante a busca de informações em artigos sobre a temática em questão, tendo como fonte de pesquisa por seleção intencional os dois volumes temáticos de periódicos nacionais da área da Enfermagem classificados no Qualis Capes e de circulação internacional, e, referentes ao último triênio, cuja temática versa mais especificamente sobre - Administração ou Gestão em Saúde e Enfermagem. Nestes volumes, foi encontrado um total de 43 artigos, os quais foram submetidos a uma leitura atenta e seletiva das informações referentes às noções de gerência do cuidado de enfermagem e respectivas competências. Estas informações foram analisadas segundo Bardin (1979) emergindo idéias nucleadoras ou categorias sobre a temática em estudo, sendo elas: Gerência do cuidado, Gerência do cuidado versus gerência de enfermagem, e Competências gerenciais do enfermeiro. Estas categorias mostram que a gerência do cuidado centra-se nas pessoas como seres humanos complexos, na complexidade do sistema de cuidado, nas equipes de enfermagem e saúde potencializadas e integradas e nas competências gerenciais como inerentes às atividades profissionais dos enfermeiros. Ainda, destaca-se a complexidade da prática gerencial hospitalar do enfermeiro envolvendo múltiplas ações de gerenciar cuidando e educando, de cuidar gerenciando e educando, de educar cuidando e gerenciando, construindo conhecimentos e articulando os diversos serviços hospitalares em prol da qualidade do cuidado como direito do cidadão. A gerência do cuidado e a gerência da enfermagem são processos e contra processos em um mesmo cenário de ações múltiplas do enfermeiro e equipe de enfermagem. Sugere-se, nessa perspectiva, ampliar o olhar dos enfermeiros gestores pelo paradigma da complexidade para o melhor cuidar do ser humano complexo. The care management is an important action of the nurse and whose knowledge and competence or skills have been being the object of best definition in face of the complexity of the health organizations and the mobilized interactions in the care systems. The present bibliographic study, which is exploratory and of qualitative approach, aimed at presenting notions and competences of the hospital nursing care management under the complexity view. The study was made by means of the search for information in articles about the referred theme, being the search source, chosen intentionally, the two thematic volumes of the national periodic papers about Nursing classified in Qualis Capes and of international circulation. These papers refer to the last three years, and their theme is more specifically about Health and Nursing Administration or Management. In these volumes a total of 43 articles was found, which were submitted to an attentive and selective reading of the pieces of information regarding the notions of nursing care management and their respective competences. These pieces of information were analyzed according to Bardin (1979), therefore emerging nucleus ideas or categories about the theme in study, which are: Care management, Care management versus Nursing management and Nurse's managerial competences. These categories show that the care management centers in people as complex human beings, in the complexity of the care system, in the enhanced and integrated nursing and health teams, and in the managerial competences as being inherent to the nurses' professional activities. The complexity of the nurse's hospital managerial practice is also pointed out, which involves multiple actions of managing taking care and educating, of taking care managing and educating, and of educating taking care and managing, constructing knowledge and articulating the various hospital services in the benefit of the care quality as a right of the citizen. The care management and the nursing management are processes and counter-processes in the same scene of the nurse's and nursing team multiple actions. It is also suggested, in this perspective, to extend the view of the nurses who manage under the complexity paradigm to reach a better quality of taking care of the complex human being
É possível produzir saúde no trabalho da enfermagem?: um estudo sobre as relações existentes entre a subjetividade do trabalhador e a objetividade do trabalho

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem.Trata-se de um estudo de natureza qualitativa realizado com dois objetivos: primeiro compreender, partindo das crenças, dos valores e das percepções verbalizados pelos trabalhadores de enfermagem, que ações desenvolvidas por eles potencializam a sua saúde ou o seu desgaste; e, segundo, identificar as possibilidades (ou impossibilidades) de expressão da subjetividade dos trabalhadores da enfermagem, bem como as ações que se aproximam da produção da saúde ou que são potencializadoras do desgaste, por meio da observação das suas ações no âmbito institucional e organizacional. Foi realizado nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva (UTI) de adulto de dois hospitais, um público e um filantrópico, situados num município do extremo sul do Brasil. Para a coleta de dados, utilizou-se a observação da objetividade do trabalho e entrevistas semi-estruturadas com 22 profissionais de enfermagem. O estudo foi realizado sob o olhar do Materialismo Histórico e Dialético, considerando os sujeitos trabalhadores em sua dimensão histórico-social, inseridos em um contexto cultural e ideológico, permeado e estruturado por relações sociais e de produção. Os dados obtidos foram analisados com base na análise de conteúdo de Bardin, através da técnica de análise temática e agrupados em três grandes eixos temáticos: as instituições, as unidades e os sujeitos estudados; o cenário imediato do trabalho da enfermagem e suas implicações na produção da saúde e do desgaste dos trabalhadores; e os múltiplos sujeitos e as múltiplas dimensões do sujeito. Estes três grandes eixos articularam os conteúdos entendidos como mais significativos na produção da saúde e do desgaste do trabalhador. O estudo possibilitou apreender que determinadas situações, vivenciadas no trabalho, podem potencializar a produção do desgaste para determinado trabalhador e não ocorrer o mesmo para outro, corroborando a idéia de que a produção da saúde inclui uma dimensão subjetiva e que a vivência de diferentes situações por diferentes sujeitos é permeada pela dialética própria da vida. Entre as situações apresentadas como produzindo desgaste estão: o modelo de gestão com características centralizadoras; a falta de materiais, equipamentos e pessoal; ações educativas insuficientes; a proximidade do trabalho da enfermagem em UTIs com a morte de jovens e crianças; os conflitos no trabalho; e o uso de equipamentos obsoletos. Como potencializadoras da produção da saúde, apareceram como significativas: a satisfação do trabalhador com o trabalho que exerce; a preservação de momentos de relaxamento e confraternização no âmbito do trabalho, e na vida pessoal e da equipe; o reconhecimento da utilidade social do trabalho exercido, materializada na visualização da melhora do sujeito cuidado, bem como na essência do cuidado em saúde que envolve uma relação entre sujeitos; a possibilidade de exercer autonomia no trabalho; e a participação no processo de trabalho. Fica evidenciado que a subjetividade do trabalhador, posta na organização do trabalho, pode intervir na objetividade do mesmo, potencializando a produção da saúde ou o desgaste. It is a study of qualitative nature accomplished with two objectives: first, of understanding, from faiths, values and perceptions verbalized by the nursing workers, which actions developed by them enable health or fatigue; and second, identifying the possibilities (or impossibilities) of expression of the nursing workers' subjectivity, as well as the actions that approach production of health or that enable fatigue, through the observation of their actions in the institutional and organizational environment. The study was carried out in the Units of Intensive Therapy for adults (UTI) of two hospitals, a public and a philanthropic one, located in a city in the southern state of Brazil. For data collection, it was used the observation of the objectivity of the work and semi-structured interviews with 22 nursing professionals. The study was accomplished under the glance of the Historical and Dialetics Materialism and, considering the working subjects in their historical-social dimension, inserted in a cultural and ideological context, permeated and structured by social and production relationships. The data were analyzed based on Badin´s analysis content through the technique of thematic analysis and comprised within three great thematic axes: the institutions, the units and the studied subjects; the immediate scenery of the work of the nursing and its implications in the production of the health and of the workers' fatigue; and the subject multiples and the subject's multiple dimensions. These three great axes articulated the contents understood as more significant in the production of the health and of the worker's fatigue. The study made possible to learn that certain situations, lived at work, can trigger the production of fatigue for certain workers and not to occur the same for others, corroborating the idea that the production of the health includes a subjective dimension and that the existence of different situations for different subjects is permeated by the own dialetics of life. Among the situations presented as producing fatigue are: the administration model with centralizing characteristics; the lack of materials, equipment and personnel; insufficient educational actions; the closeness proximity of the work of the nursing in UTIs with the youths' death and children; the conflicts at the workplace; and the use of obsolete equipment. As boosters of the production of health, appeared as significant: the worker's satisfaction with the work he does; the preservation of moments of relaxation and leisure both in the workplace and the personal life and the staff; the recognition of the social usefulness of the their work materialized in the visualization of hospitalized subject 's recovery, as well as in the essence of the care in health which involves a relationship with subjects; the possibility to exert autonomy in the workplace; and the participation in the working process. It is clear that the worker's subjectivity, inserted in the organization of the work, it can intervene in its objectivity, enabling the production of the health or fatigue
Analytical Chemistry In Brazil
No full textAn overview of analytical chemistry research in Brazil over the last five years is presented. Analytical chemistry is one of the great areas of research in Brazil. There are 37 graduate programs in chemistry spread over the country, but only some universities have a specific graduate program in analytical chemistry. It is important to note that almost all the research involves graduate and undergraduate students supervised by teachers and professors.
