No full textIn the 1990s, the Chinese leadership launched a large-scale “patriotic education” campaign. At that time, hundreds of historical sites were bestowed the status of “patriotic education bases”, playing a key role in rebuilding the collective historical memory and educating the people – above all, the younger generations – on the humiliations China had previously suffered due to aggression by foreign powers. Visits to the patriotic bases also became an integral part of school curricula.
This paper focuses on the memorial dedicated to the victims of the Japanese occupation of Lüshun (Dalian, Liaoning province), which took place in November 1894. By also relying on data collected during a visit to the site in October 2017, it aims to investigate how this “patriotic education base” contributes to the official historical narrative of both China’s past and the Sino-Japanese conflicts

Get PDFWhile the EU is building an open access infrastructure of archives (e.g. OpenAIRE) and it is trying to implement it in the Horizon 2020 program, the gap between the tools and the human beings – researchers, citizen scientists, students, ordinary people – is still wide. The necessity to dictate open access publishing as a mandate for the EU funded research – ten years after the BOAI - is an obvious symptom of it: there is a chasm between the net and the public use of reason. To escalate the advancement and the reuse of research, we should federate the multitude of already existing open access journals in federal open overlay journals that receive their contents from the member journals and boost it with their aggregation power and their semantic web tools. The article contains both the theoretical basis and the guidelines for a project whose goals are: 1. making open access journals visible, highly cited and powerful, by federating them into wide disciplinary overlay journals; 2. avoiding the traps of the “authors pay” open access business model, by exploiting one of the virtue of federalism: the federate journals can remain little and affordable, if they gain visibility from the power of the federal overlay journal aggregating them; 3. enriching the overlay journals both through semantic annotation tools and by means of open platforms dedicated to host ex post peer review and experts comments; 4. making the selection and evaluation processes and their resulting data as much as possible public and open, to avoid the pitfalls (e. g, the serials price crisis) experienced by the closed access publishing model. It is about time to free academic publishing from its expensive walled gardens and to put to test the tools that can help us to transform it in one open forest, with one hundred flowers – and one hundred trailblazers

The furnishings are identified by a table and a reference code and many examples of hospital projects show how to design different hospitals areas. In this paper the author give also a contribution on lighting performances to be guarantee. Artificial and day-lighting enhance the general comfort of the patients' visitors and the medical staff, and could help patients healing and cure as well
Public enterprises in the market for corporate control : recent worldwide evidence
No full textThis paper analyzes deals involving private and public enterprises, i.e. State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) worldwide since 2004. We consider four types of deals: privatizations of SOEs, public enterprises acquiring private ones (public-private deals), private reorganizations (i.e private firms acquiring a private target) and public reorganizations. (i.e. both acquirer and target are SOEs). We study whether the pre-deal performance and corporate characteristics of the acquirer and target companies vary across the four types of deals depending on ownership: public or private. Data are taken from Zephyr (Bureau Van Dijk), which provides information on completed deals worldwide and Orbis, a firm-level dataset (also implemented by BvD). Some results of previous literature on M&As performed by private firms ('the inefficiency management hypothesis') are both confirmed and expanded. Acquirers involved in deals are both larger and better performing than their targets but some qualifications are in order with respect to ownership. The difference in size and performance between acquirers and targets is in fact more pronounced for public with respect to private acquirers. The evidence thus points to an active role of SOEs as acquirers, as they significantly out-perform relative to their targets, including private ones, in terms of return on sales. Given these novel findings, further research is needed to examine the motivations behind the different types of deals considered and to verify the role of government ownership in the contemporary global economy

No full textThe aim of this paper is to carry out an analysis of five trascendental operators acting on the space of slice regular functions, namely ∗-exponential, ∗-sine and ∗-cosine and their hyperbolic analogues. The first three of them were introduced by Colombo, Sabadini and Struppa and some features of ∗-exponential were investigated in a previous paper by Altavilla and the author. We show how exp∗(f), sin∗(f), cos∗(f), sinh∗(f) and cosh∗(f) can be written in terms of the real and the vector part of the function f and we examine the relation between cos∗ and cosh∗ when the domain ω is product and when it is slice. In particular we prove that when ω is slice, then cos∗(f) = cosh∗(f ∗ I) holds if and only if f is CI preserving, while in the case ω is product there is a much larger family of slice regular functions for which the above relation holds

The dicyclopropylzirconocene complex [Cp2Zr(c-C3H5)(2)](1) eliminates cyclopropane to generate the (2)-cyclopropene/bicyclobutane intermediate [Cp2Zr((2)-c-C3H4)](A). A does not activate any pyridine C-H bonds, but rather pyridine inserts into a Zr-C bond of A, yielding an azazirconacycle with a dearomatized pyridyl group [Cp2Zr\(2)-N,C-8-(2-c-C3H4)-C5H5N\](2). Kinetic data, isotopelabelling experiments, and DFT calculations indicate that the rate-determining step of this stereospecific reaction is cyclopropane elimination, and that the stability of the intermediate [Cp2Zr((2)-c-C3H4)(NC5H5)](A-py) governs the selectivity of the reaction. Complex2 tautomerizes to [Cp2Zr\(2)-N,C-8-(2-C3H5)-C5H4N\](6) through a base-catalyzed proton migration accompanied by cyclopropyl opening and restoration of conjugation within the zirconacycle

Get PDFIn 1969 the Italian Radio-Television Broadcasting- RAI produced the screenplay, Eleonora Duse. Notes for a biography. G. Loverso and C. Serino were the author of the script, directed by F. Bollini (1924-78). Having analyzed the screenplay, we are able to un- derstand how the myth of E. Duse was structured. The analysis also explains why she became famous among the television audience of the second half of the 20th century. The screenplay sparked considera- ble debate and contrasting reactions, especially based on the interpretation of the actress in the role of Duse, L. Brignone (1913-84). Many admirers wrote to Brignone about her interpretation of the great tragedienne. The actress and writer E. De Giorgi (1914-97) sent Brignone her study on E. Duse, that allows us to focus on some distinctive features of Duse’s acting, dividing the actress from the myth
