A new paradigm for local infrastructure to enhance the potential of Finiq and its surrounding
No full textThe main aim of this report is to promote an innovative approach for Municipalities, engineers and designers showing instruments and methodologies to envision a new paradigm for the future of those areas that area suffering emigration of population and lack of infrastructures. A specific case study has been identify in the village of Finiq, located in the South of Albania - and topic of the 8th International Workshop of Tirana – which, due to the isolation of its population, related to historical and geo-morphological characteristics, is registering a constant shrinking of the inhabitants in search of occupational and educational facilities. Within the development of the investigation Finiq has been first evaluated at local scale – estimating the needs of the inhabitants – and secondly it has been systemised with the sur- rounding villages: Aliko, Mesopotam, Vrion. This approach led to an implementation of the interconnection within the villages as necessary action to overcome the isolation of all the inhabitants. This analysis has been the starting point for the definition of the strategy to adopt as an opportunity to develop an innovative structure for the management of mobility, local resources and energy use, to increase the touristic attractiveness of the site and to provide the inhabit- ant with a strategic and widespread infrastructure. To be truly effective, the mentioned approach includes an active participation of the citizen/ user, who becomes the main actor and prosumer of his own infrastructure and whom, through an adequate information program, becomes able to modify and align his own behaviors to this new one paradigm. The outcome of this report has the characteristics to be implemented and replicated in other context with similar issues, not only by designers but also by public administrations or private stakeholders that have to confront with similar social and demographic issues, putting an end to the systematic abandonment of the areas and to unlock their economic and demographic development
Internationally adopted adolescents: How do they integrate ethnic and national identity?
No full textIn recent years the phenomenon of international adoption has steadily increased, and many adopted children are now adolescents. At this developmental stage the construction of ethnic identity becomes crucial, involving additional challenges for interracial adoptees. Some recent studies, mostly American, have focused on ethnic identity of adoptees: their results, however, are inconsistent with patterns of ethnic identification. This could be related to the complexity of this issue and the different strategies used by adoptees to confront dual membership of ethnic group and new social context. The present article explores how international adoptees negotiate dual identity and how this process affects their well-being. A self-report questionnaire was administered individually to 97 international adoptees aged between 15 and 22. Four types of adoptees, representing different patterns of ethnic and national identification, were determined in relation to different well-being outcomes. The results suggest some practical applications in pre- and post-adoption parent-training programs
Parental cultural socialization and perception of discrimination as antecedents for transracial adoptees’ ethnic identity
No full textEthnic identity has been explored mainly among minorities and only recently among transracial adoptees. This process is
particularly complex because adoptees do not share their heritage with their adoptive families. Research has demonstrated that
ethnic identity is positively correlated with adoptees’ self-esteem and psychological well being and that it is enhanced by parents’
cultural socialization, but these studies were mainly carried out in the U.S. cultural context. Moreover identity construction is
embedded within the social network and empirical results showed that high levels of discrimination increase the social group
identification among minority’s members as a means of protecting their individual well-being. However, there is a lack of
research exploring this issue in transracial adoptees. To partially fill this gap, the current study was carried out: it focuses on the
factors promoting or hindering transracial adoptees’ ethnic identity, in particular parents’ cultural socialization and the perception
of social discrimination. 128 transracially adoptees living in Italy (15 to 25 years of age) and one of their parents filled out a
questionnaire. Analysis, using the Structural Equation Model, showed that parents play a vital role helping the adoptees in the
construction of their ethnic identity through their cultural socialization strategies, whereas the perception of social discrimination
undermines the ethnic identity construction. The results will be discussed in light of their potential practical implications
Identità etnica e adozione internazionale: una panoramica delle ricerche
No full textL ’ adozione internazionale è un fenomeno numericamente consistente e di indubbia rilevanza sociale non solo in Italia, ma in tutti i Paesi occidentali. Nell’ultimo decennio anche la letteratura psicologica e sociale ha rivolto il suo interesse verso questo tema. Assai recentemente il focus è stato posto anche su un aspetto specifico, la costruzione dell’identità nei soggetti adottati: a questo riguardo il caso delle adozioni internazionali e interrazziali appare denso di implicazioni e ricco di sfaccettature. Le ricerche condotte su questa peculiare dimensione restano comunque numericamente assai limitate, maggiormente diffuse negli Stati Uniti più che in Europa e ancor meno in Italia. Questo porta necessariamente a fare i conti con una letteratura spesso lontana dal nostro contesto culturale e che raramente offre spunti di confronto cross-culturale. Anche nel percorso tematico qui proposto, quindi, sarà necessario interrogarsi e tener conto di queste differenze: da un lato, esso vuole ancorarsi al panorama internazionale per il ricco contributo che soprattutto negli ultimi anni ha dato alla riflessione su questo argomento e dall’altro non vuole perdere le specificità del contesto italiano, pur nel limitato raggio di proposte che sono state realizzate su questo tema.
Il percorso di lettura proposto vuole delineare alcuni trend di ricerca che è possibile rintracciare nella letteratura nazionale e internazionale sul tema della costruzione dell’identità etnica nei ragazzi, adolescenti e giovani adulti, in adozione internazionale. Sono state individuate alcune aree tematiche rilevanti che possono orientarci nell’approfondire questo tema: la dimensione
etnica nell’adozione di minori di diversa etnia, l’evoluzione delle ricerche nella direzione della prospettiva biculturale, il ruolo dei genitori adottivi che prende la sua forma nelle strategie di socializzazione culturale scelte, l’impatto sul benessere psicologico e, infine, alcuni risvolti applicativi per l’intervento
La costruzione dell’identità etnica nel percorso dell’adozione: alcuni spunti dalle recenti ricerche
No full textCosa significa per un adolescente o giovane adulto in adozione internazionale crescere in una famiglia per sua natura multietnica e confrontarsi con due genitori di altra etnia? Se l’adottato appartiene ad un gruppo etnico per nascita, ma anche alla cultura dei genitori adottivi a seguito dell’adozione, come può a tenere compresenti questi due aspetti? La costruzione dell’identità poi avviene nella trama delle relazioni familiari e sociali, ma quali sono i contesti relazionali che facilitano la costruzione dell’identità e la definizione di una progettualità per il futuro? Tutto ciò che impatto ha sul benessere dei ragazzi?
Una recente ricerca condotta dal Centro Ateneo Studi e Ricerche sulla Famiglia ha cercato di rispondere a queste domande, focalizzando l'attenzione sull’analisi della modalità con cui adolescenti e giovani adulti adottati definiscono la propria identità etnica e come riescono a comporre l’identificazione con il gruppo etnico del Paese nel quale sono nati e il riferimento culturale dei genitori adottivi.
Sono state coinvolte 172 triadi adottive composte da padre, madre e figlio, adolescente o giovane adulto in adozione internazionale, di età compresa tra i 15 ed i 25 anni, per un totale di 516 partecipant

Classification and prediction of whereabouts patterns from the Reality Mining dataset
No full textClassification and prediction of users’ whereabouts patterns is important for many emerging ubiquitous computing applications. Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is a powerful mechanism to extract recurrent behaviors and high-level patterns (called topics) from mobility data in an unsupervised manner. One drawback of LDA is that it is difficult to give meaningful and usable labels to the extracted topics. We present a methodology to automatically classify the topic with meaningful labels so as to support their use in applications. We also present a topic prediction mechanism to infer user’s future whereabouts on the basis of the extracted topics. Both these two mechanisms are tested and evaluated using the Reality Mining dataset consisting of a large set of continuous data on human behavior
