ENERGY SUSTAINABILITY IN VULNERABLE AREAS IN SOUTH ITALY
The research starts in the framework of a work aimed to define models and projects for energy
sustainability in low income natural reserves of South Italy. The work involved a multidisciplinary group with
experience in the fields of governance, rules and regulations, planning and technology. After a preliminary
call and screening, 23 communities were involved in the project; some of them are large parks located in
hilly or mountain areas, others are marine areas and waterfronts or small islands. In general these
communities have few economic resources but rich potential of renewable energy sources. Focusing on the
energy field, a common methodology was defined and a set of definitions was provided. Each community
was involved in searching and giving all data needed for the elaboration of its actual energy balance and
then improved energy scenarios were defined taking into account the peculiarities of each area. Despite
similar conditions, the obtained responses were very different depending on many factors like
environmental consciousness, public administrators involvement, number of inhabitants and dimension of
territory, main sectors and developed activities etc. In some cases, during the process some barriers were
highlighted regarding political and administrative slowness and distorted visions of energy sustainability
among the most part of the involved stakeholders. As result of the applied methodology, the most suitable
and promising communities were selected and the last phase of the work will be aimed to define and to
finance proper projects for improving their energy systems. Achieved results could represent a precious
basis for better orienting similar initiatives in the future
Planning eco-cities, the case of Huai Rou New Town
Urban design has a tremendous impact on urban energy consumption, because of its strong influence on buildings and transport sectors. Guidelines for low energy – low emission urban design are based on different strategies aimed to minimize energy demand and energy wastes, to improve urban metabolism by recycling energy and materials and to substitute fossil fuels with renewable energy. At urban scale, energy demand can be minimized by optimizing shape, orientation and distances between buildings in order to control solar radiation and the effect of winds; at the same time the heat island effect, and the consequent energy demand for cooling, must be reduced by emphasizing the use of green areas and making use of appropriate surface materials.
In this contest, a new methodology has been developed and applied to a case study regarding a project that took place in the framework of a collaboration and knowledge transfer between Italy and China. This research is related to the energy planning of Houi Rou, a new town near Beijing that will host about 80 thousand people with more than 3,5 million of m2 distributed by residences, commercial buildings and parking. Huai Rou New Town is an example of the concrete possibility, with today’s technologies and in a context of cost-effectiveness, to design a fully renewable energy supplied with very small energy footprint and greenhouse emissions settlement
Transfer of four species of Scabiosa to Lomelosia (Dipsacaceae)
Four species of Scabiosa L. are transferred to Lomelosia Raf. (Dipsacaceae) to complete the relocation of all scabious taxa with a pitted epicalyx into Lomelosia. The new combinations are: L. deserticola (Rech. f.) P. Caputo & Del Guacchio, L. poecilocarpa (Rech. f.) P. Caputo & Del Guacchio, L. schimperiana (Boiss. & Buhse) P. Caputo & Del Guacchio, and L. transcaspica (Rech. f.) P. Caputo & Del Guacchio
Towards a rational nomenclature of cultivated plants: proposal of taxonomic reassessment of Cicer reticulatum (Fabaceae) and Spinacia turkestanica (Chenopodiaceae)

voluto narrarle
High Order Approximation to Caputo Derivative On Graded Mesh and Time-Fractional Diffusion Equation for Non-smooth Solutions
In this paper, a high-order approximation to Caputo-type time-fractional diffusion equations involving an initial-time singularity of the solution is proposed. At first, we employ a numerical algorithm based on the Lagrange polynomial interpolation to approximate the Caputo derivative on the non-uniform mesh. Then truncation error rate and the optimal grading constant of the approximation on a graded mesh are obtained as min{4 - a, ra} and 4-a/a , respectively, where α ∈ (0, 1) is the order of fractional derivative and r ≥ 1 is the mesh grading parameter. Using this new approximation, a difference scheme for the Caputo-type time-fractional diffusion equation on the graded temporal mesh is formulated. The scheme proves to be uniquely solvable for general r. Then we derive the unconditional stability of the scheme on uniform mesh. The convergence of the scheme, in particular for r = 1, is analyzed for non-smooth solutions and concluded for smooth solutions. Finally, the accuracy of the scheme is verified by analyzing the error through a few numerical examples. The first author acknowledges the support provided by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India, under grant number
