    The Impact of COVID-19 Quarantine on Tuberculosis and Diabetes Mellitus Cases: A Modelling Study

    COVID-19 has currently become a global pandemic and caused a high number of infected people and deaths. To restrain the coronavirus spread, many countries have implemented restrictions on people’s movement and outdoor activities. The enforcement of health emergencies such as quarantine has a positive impact on reducing the COVID-19 infection risk, but it also has unwanted influences on health, social, and economic sectors. Here, we developed a compartmental mathematical model for COVID-19 transmission dynamic accommodating quarantine process and including tuberculosis and diabetic people compartments. We highlighted the potential negative impact induced by quarantine implementation on the increasing number of people with tuberculosis and diabetes. The actual COVID-19 data recorded in Indonesia during the Delta and Omicron variant attacks were well-approximated by the model’s output. A positive relationship was indicated by a high value of Pearson correlation coefficient, r=0.9344 for Delta and r=0.8961 for Omicron with a significance level of p<0.05. By varying the value of the quarantine parameter, this study obtained that quarantine effectively reduces the number of COVID-19 but induces an increasing number of tuberculosis and diabetic people. In order to minimize these negative impacts, increasing public awareness about the dangers of TB transmission and implementing a healthy lifestyle were considered the most effective strategies based on the simulation. The insights and results presented in this study are potentially useful for relevant authorities to increase public awareness of the potential risk of TB transmission and to promote a healthy lifestyle during the implementation of quarantine

    The debate between presidential and vice presidential candidates is a moment that the public has been waiting for to find out which candidate they will choose. From this debate, the public can determine their choice to become president and vice president. Therefore, in this research, the author chose the presidential and vice presidential candidate debates as the research object seen from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. This research is entitled "Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto's Legal and Human Rights Views on the 2019 First Presidential Candidate Debate: An Analysis of Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse". This research aims to determine the linguistic aspects used by Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto in representing their views on law and human rights, forms of discourse practice, and the social or cultural traditions behind the emergence of this discourse. This research uses Norman Fairclough's analytical theory to look at ongoing social and cultural practices through text dimensions, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice to see the original reality that makes the discourse appear. To find out these three things, four stages were used, namely (1) using debate transcripts software Express Scribe; (2) linguistic analysis of the debate text; (3) discourse analysis of the debate text; (4) relating the social and cultural context to the debate text. Meanwhile, the method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method, namely a method that aims to provide a systematic description of the data, characteristics, and relationships of the phenomena to be studied. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that Jokowi views law and human rights as a unity. procedures that all have mechanisms so that when there are human rights violations they can be dealt with according to legal procedures. Meanwhile, Prabowo views law and human rights as regulations that can be controlled by the President as the highest head of government. These views are supported by their background and the work program presented. Apart from that, due to the social context built into the debate, they tried to attack each other with various case examples to defend their opinions and attract the hearts of the public

    The rapid advancement of technology presents significant challenges, particularly in vocational education, where the aim is to produce skilled graduates ready for the workforce. This study analyzes the problem-solving competencies of vocational students when resolving case studies in Statistics courses. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving 90 students divided into 30 groups as subjects. Primary data were gathered from the students' case study analyses, which were classified and analyzed according to Polya’s problem-solving stages. Findings revealed that students demonstrated varying levels of initiative in understanding problems and developing solutions. Specifically, 20% of the groups fell into the substance category, 46,67% into result, and 33,33% into completion. Substance groups struggled with planning and data collection, while result groups exhibited minor errors in implementing their plans, particularly in data processing and presentation. Meanwhile, completion groups showed a comprehensive understanding and effective problem resolution. The analysis of these problem-solving capabilities provides a foundation for a deeper evaluation of instructional effectiveness and the development of targeted teaching strategies

    Epidemiological modeling of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) transmission in Jakarta, Indonesia through cumulative generating operator on SLIR model

    Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) constitutes a significant global health concern characterized by its high infection rates and widespread distribution worldwide. While influenza viruses, primarily types A and B, are primary contributors to ILI cases, other respiratory viruses also play a role in its prevalence. Jakarta, Indonesia’s largest and densely populated city, has consistently reported a notable weekly number of ILI cases from 2016 to mid-2022. Intriguingly, this pattern of cases is irregular and does not exhibit a direct association with seasonal climate fluctuations. In response to this complex scenario, we have developed a SLIR mathematical model featuring a cumulative generating operator in the form of a multiple-terms sigmoid function, obtained from weekly cumulative data to derive model solutions. A total of 12 terms within the sigmoid function yielded a decent fit to the actual data spanning 339 weeks. Our correlation analysis unveiled distinct temporal relationships within the model, revealing an 8-week time lag between the dynamics of the infection rate and the latent compartment, along with a 2-week lag marking the incubation period between the latent and infected compartments. Furthermore, the effective reproduction number displayed recurrent fluctuations around a threshold of 1, indicating the endemic characteristics where infection persists within the population. This in-depth comprehension of ILI transmission dynamics and effective reproduction numbers plays a significant role in devising control measures and informed policy-making decisions

    Comparison of Dengue Transmission in Lowland and Highland Area: Case Study in Semarang and Malang, Indonesia

    Dengue is a potentially lethal mosquito-borne disease, regarded as the most dangerous disease in the world. It is also a major health issue in tropical and subtropical countries. Environmental characteristics and sociocultural are factors which play a role in the spread of dengue. Different landscape structure such as lowland and highland areas are possible to give different infection rate on dengue transmission. Semarang and Malang are densely populated areas in Java, which are selected to be our study areas. A mathematical model (SIR-UV) is adapted to describe dengue transmission. Spiral dynamic optimization is applied to convert monthly data to weekly in Malang and estimate the infection rate that minimized the deviation between dengue data and simulation. This method produces a good fitting to the data. We compare the pattern of dengue cases from the simulation in both cities. Furthermore, we identify seasonal variations of the cases via Fourier series of the infection rate. We also investigate the correlation between humidity, infection rate, and dengue cases in Semarang and Malang. It reveals that humidity influences infection rate in 1-3 weeks later and the infection rate produces dengue cases in the next four weeks

    Dalam persaingan bisnis yang sangat ketat, fungsi kemasan telah berkembang menjadi lebih kompleks, tidak hanya untuk melindungi produk dan memberikan keunikan, tetapi juga sebagai sarana untuk mendorong peningkatan penjualan dengan menarik minta konsumen.  UMKM perlu menyadari bahwa investasi dalam desain kemasan yang baik dapat membawa dampak positif dalam meningkatkan daya saing produk. Sebagian pelaku UMKM di Desa Tulusbesar mengakui bahwa kemasan produk mereka masih sederhana dan kurang menarik. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan memberi pengetahuan dan keterampilan bagi pelaku UMKM dan industri rumahan dengan usaha di bidang makanan olahan untuk menghasilkan kemasan produk yang baik dan menarik. Kegiatan pengabdian dilaksanakan secara luring dan dihadiri oleh 10 peserta dengan jenis usaha yang berbeda-beda seperti keripik pisang, donat, madu, bakso, jamu, dan makanan basah. Kegiatan pengabdian terdiri dari edukasi fungsi kemasan, jenis-jenis kemasan, dan komponen penting dalam suatu kemasan. Selain itu juga disajikan contoh-contoh kemasan untuk menambah referensi para pelaku usaha dalam mendesain kemasan yang cocok untuk produk mereka. Berdasarkan hasil pengisian kuesioner diperoleh informasi bahwa kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan menawarkan solusi dari permasalahan yang ada pada mitra terkait pengemasan produk dan terjadi penguatan kemandirian dan peningkatan pengetahuan serta keterampilan mitra. Secara umum kegiatan pengabdian berjalan baik dan tepat sasaran sesuai dengan kebutuhan mitra dalam membuka jalan untuk presentasi produk yang lebih baik dan daya saing pasar yang lebih tinggi

    Climate-based dengue model in Semarang, Indonesia: Predictions and descriptive analysis

    Background: Dengue is one of the most rapidly spreading vector-borne diseases, which is considered to be a major health concern in tropical and sub-tropical countries. It is strongly believed that the spread and abundance of vectors are related to climate. Construction of climate-based mathematical model that integrates meteorological factors into disease infection model becomes compelling challenge since the climate is positively associated with both incidence and vector existence. Methods: A host-vector model is constructed to simulate the dynamic of transmission. The infection rate parameter is replaced with the time-dependent coefficient obtained by optimization to approximate the daily dengue data. Further, the optimized infection rate is denoted as a function of climate variables using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. Results: The infection parameter can be extended when updated daily climates are known, and it can be useful to forecast dengue incidence. This approach provides proper prediction, even when tested in increasing or decreasing prediction windows. In addition, associations between climate and dengue are presented as a reversed slide-shaped curve for dengue-humidity and a reversed U-shaped curves for dengue-temperature and dengue-precipitation. The range of optimal temperature for infection is 24.3–30.5 °C. Humidity and precipitation are positively associated with dengue upper the threshold 70% at lag 38 days and below 50 mm at lag 50 days, respectively. Conclusion: Identification of association between climate and dengue is potentially useful to counter the high risk of dengue and strengthen the public health system and reduce the increase of the dengue burden

    Peningkatan Daya Saing Produk BUMDes melalui Edukasi Sertifikasi Halal di Desa Pulotondo Tulungagung

    Purpose – The purpose of this community service activity is to provide education and assistance regarding halal certification in order to enhance the competiveness of BUMDes (village-owned enterprises) products in Pulotondo Village, Tulungagung. Design/methodology/approach – The approach used is an educative-practical method that combines the delivery of theoretical material material with hands-on practice, actively involving participants in simulations, practical sessions, and interactive discussions. The implementation stages include preparation and socialization, implementation and assistance, and reporting. To obtain feedback and evaluate the effectiveness of the activity, the service team distributed questionnaires to all participants. Findings – Through socialization sessions, training, and discussions with BUMDEs actors, business owners, and village officials, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of strategies to improve the competitiveness of BUMDes products through the halal certification process. Participants were also equipped with knowledge about the application process, the regulatory basis, as well as the challenges faced and possible solutions. The results of this community service activity showed a significant increase in knowledge and capacity among the partners, as reflected in the post-activity questionnaire evaluation. Originality/value – The originality of this program is its educative-practical approach that integrates theoretical training, direct simulation, and hands-on assistance in the halal certification process for BUMDes products. This activity is designed based on local needs and involves active participation from the village community, promoting empowerment and sustainable competitiveness enhancement

    Assessing the impact of booster vaccination on diphtheria transmission: Mathematical modeling and risk zone mapping

    The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruptions in the healthcare system, affecting vaccinations and the management of diphtheria cases. As a consequence of these disruptions, numerous countries have experienced a resurgence or an increase in diphtheria cases. West Java province in Indonesia is identified as one of the high-risk areas for diphtheria, experiencing an upward trend in cases from 2021 to 2023. To analyze the situation, we developed an SIR model, which integrated DPT and booster vaccinations to determine the basic reproduction number, an essential parameter for infectious diseases. Through spatial analysis of geo-referenced data, we identified hotspots and explained diffusion in diphtheria case clusters. The calculation of R0 resulted in an R0 = 1.17, indicating the potential for a diphtheria outbreak in West Java. To control the increasing cases, one possible approach is to raise the booster vaccination coverage from the current 64.84% to 75.15%, as suggested by simulation results. Furthermore, the spatial analysis revealed that hot spot clusters were present in the western, central, and southern regions, posing a high risk not only in densely populated areas but also in rural regions. The diffusion pattern of diphtheria clusters displayed an expansion-contagious pattern. Understanding the rising trend of diphtheria cases and their geographic distribution can offer crucial insights for government and health authorities to manage the number of diphtheria cases and make informed decisions regarding the best prevention and intervention strategies
