Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Sistema de apoio à decisão de enfermagem para a realização do exame físico da gestante
Get PDFDissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciencias da Saúde, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem, Florianópolis, 2009Trata-se de um estudo de naturaza quantitativa, semiexperimental, e desenho de grupo equivalente, com o objetivo de desenvolver e avaliar um sistema de apoio à decisão informatizado para suporte à tomada de decisão segura do enfermeiro na realização do exame físico da gestante de baixo risco durante o pré-natal. A população deste estudo foi constituída de 45 enfermeiros atuantes nas unidades locais de saúde do município de Blumenau/SC. A amostra (n) desta pesquisa é de característica não probabilística intencional, pois os enfermeiros foram convidados a participar do estudo, constituindo-se de 19 enfermeiros. Com nível de significância P< 0,05 para um intervalo de confiança de 95%. Respeitaram-se as diretrizes e normas regulamentadoras da Pesquisa envolvendo seres Humanos (Resolução 196/96). A aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa com Seres Humanos da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina com parecer nº170/08, e autorização para aplicação da pesquisa no Município de Blumenau com o parecer 015.08. Para o desenvolvimento do Sistema de Apoio à Decisão ao Exame Físico Informatizado (SADEFI) foram adotados os passos definidos por Marakas (2003) e Stead & Lin (2008): Identificação do problema; Identificação dos objetivos e recursos; Análise do sistema; Desing do sistema; Construção do sistema e Aumento da adptação. A metodologia para a construção da base de conhecimento do SADEFI seguiu as regras de produção no estilo SE ... ENTÃO com regras de probabilidade para a melhor decisão e com a possibilidade de inclusão de conectivos lógicos, relacionando aos atributos no escopo da base. Para o SADEFI foi utilizado a ferramenta 9 Zend® para desenvolvimento de aplicativos web em PHP®. As páginas são renderizadas em HTML 4.1® com encode utf-8®. A dinâmica dos escores foi programada em javascript 1.5® para tornar a aplicação mais rápida para o usuário e, ao mesmo tempo, mais leve para o servidor. O banco de dados foi desenvolvido em SQL-ANSI® e roda sobre um servidor de base de dados MySql®. O protocolo para a utilização do SADEFI se deu da seguinte forma: os enfermeiros se reuniram no laboratório de informática, o encontro foi divido em cinco momentos: 1. Esclarecimento sobre a estrutura do SADEFI, 2. Preenchimento do préteste com questões técnicas relacionadas ao acompanhamento pré-natal e investigação dos dados sócio demográficos. Entrega do caso de uma gestante para simular o momento da consulta, 3. Realização do pré-natal utilizando o SADEFI, 4. Preenchimento do pós-teste (com questões idênticas ao pré-teste, exceto os dados sócio demográficos) e 5. Preenchimento do formulário de avaliação do SADEFI. Os enfermeiros consideraram o sistema útil, de fácil entendimento, organizado e mostraram-se satisfeitos com o sistema. O aproveitamento dos enfermeiros no pré-teste foi uma média de 5,89 acertos e no pós-teste, após a intervenção do SADEFI, foi de 9,10 acertos, evidenciando maior efetividade nos seguintes itens: Diagnóstico da Gestação (sinais de presunção, probabilidade e certeza de gestação); Exame físico geral; Mobilograma e Manobra de Leopold-Zweifel, por considerar a relevância destes temas para o enfermeiro no acompanhamento prénatal, o SADEFI contribuiu satisfatoriamente para o conhecimento do enfermeiro resultando na tomada de decisão segura ao realizar do exame físico da gestante durante o pré-natal de baixo risco e foi um sinalizador de diagnóstico do conhecimento do enfermeiro sobre o exame físico que é a etapa inicial para a sistematização do processo de assistência de enfermagem à gestante de baixo risco.This is a study naturaza quantitative, semi-experimental design and the equivalent group in order to develop and evaluate a decision support computer-based support for decision making safe of the nurse in performing the physical examination of pregnant women low risk during the prenatal period. The study population consisted of 45 nurses working in local health units in the city of Blumenau / SC. The sample (n) of this research is characteristic of non-probabilistic intentional, because the nurses were invited to participate in the study, consisting of 19 nurses. Significance level P <0.05 for a confidence interval of 95%. To comply with the standards and regulations of human research (Resolution 196/96). The approval of the Ethics in Human Research of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, opinion No. 170/08, and authorization for application of research in the city of Blumenau with the opinion of 015.08. For the development of the Decision Support to Physical Examination System (SADEFI) were adopted by the steps defined Marakas (2003) and Stead & Lin (2008): Identification of the problem, identification of objectives and resources; Analysis System; Desing of system, construction of the system and increase the adptação. The database was developed in ANSI-SQL ® and runs on a server database MySQL ®. The protocol for the use of SADEFI occurred as follows: nurses gathered at the computer lab, the meeting was divided into five stages: 1. Clarification on the structure of SADEFI, 2. Completing the pre-test with technical issues related to prenatal care and research of socio demographic. Delivery of the case of 11 a pregnant woman to simulate the time of consultation, 3. Implementation of prenatal using SADEFI, 4. Filling the post-test (with identical questions to the pretest, except the socio demographic data) and 5. Filling out the evaluation form SADEFI. Nurses found the system useful, easy to understand, organized and were satisfied with the system. The use of nurses in pre-test was an average of 5.89 items and post-test after intervention SADEFI, was 9.10 items, showing greater effectiveness in the following items: Diagnosis of Pregnancy (signals of inflation, probability and certainty of gestation), general physical examination; Mobilograma and maneuver Leopold-Zweifel, considering the relevance of the issues for nurses in prenatal care, the SADEFI satisfactorily contributed to the knowledge of nurses resulting in the decision to secure perform physical examination of pregnant women during prenatal care of low risk and a flag was diagnostic knowledge of nurses about the physical examination that is the initial step for the systematization of the nursing care for pregnant women at low risk
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
