Enhanced design consideration for mobility support in internet of things / Wan Fariza Wan Abdul Rahman and Aisha Hassan Abdalla Hashim

Mobility assistance is necessary for many Internet of Things applications (IoT), including real-time patient monitoring and vehicle tracking systems. Sadly, the proposed standard Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) only takes into account static wireless sensor networks (WSN). For RPL, solid mobility support is essential to ensuring ongoing device connectivity. Additionally, inadequate mobility support causes data loss, increased energy consumption, longer delays, and a decline in application performance. Numerous solutions have been put up to address the mobility challenges, but none of them take into account various mobility models about pertinent elements. This article offers a variety of mobility models for use in mobile IoT applications. Understanding the mechanisms of various mobility models enables more effective implementation of application-specific RPL mobility assistance. Mobility patterns, or the actual movement behaviour of moving objects, are closely related to mobility models. Velocity, obstructions, whether a movement is solo or group-based, and other elements affect how a movement behaves. This work proposes the improved design of mobility support for RPL while taking into account all the variables and various mobility models

Tacit knowledge: the role and effectiveness in acquiring knowledge in international strategic alliances in Malaysia

This study examines the role of tacit knowledge in the knowledge acquisition process among international strategic alliances firms in Malaysia. The significance of tacit knowledge is discussed and the effectiveness in acquiring the tacit knowledge is analysed. Tacit knowledge plays a vital role in the knowledge acquisition process as it is very important and harder to be acquired compared to explicit knowledge. Two major issues related to the tacitness of knowledge in the knowledge acquisition process are learning capacity and accessibility. Learning capacity and accessibility were examined through personal interviews with 41 Malaysian firms that engaged in international strategic alliances. Data obtained were qualitatively analysed. This study found that Malaysian firms highly depend on foreign partners particularly on the technical knowledge though the relationship has been established for quite some time. Despite creating efforts to reduce the dependency, the reliance on the foreign firms remains high and learning process is rather slow. In accessing the knowledge from the foreign partner, local firms have to deal with eight major challenges and problems. These challenges have limited the local firms ability to learn and acquire more knowledge from the foreign partner. Trust, which closely related to the accessibility, is proved to influence the level of knowledge acquired. A higher degree of trust will ease the process of knowledge acquisition while a lower degree of trust acts vice versa. Therefore, it is essential for the local firms to develop a trust in their international strategic alliances relationship

STUDI PEMIKIRAN MUSTAFA AKYOL DAN HASHIM KAMALI TERHADAP PENERAPAN SANKSI APOSTASI: ANALISIS HERMENEUTIKA NEGOSIATIF

The death penalty for people who left from Islam is contrary to religious freedom. Human rights, which is the dominant discourse today, calls for a re-reading of the death penalty. The implication, there are many scholars who re-think the punishment of apostasy. Among them are Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali who goes into this line. If the first name lives in the middle of a society where Muslims are a minority (America), then it is different from the last name. Hashim Kamali disseminated his ideas in Malaysia, one of the countries adhering to classical Islamic traditions. The fundamental question in this study is how the sanctions of apostasy are discussed again by the two thinkers. This type of research is qualitative with future data on a library study (library research). These research data are derived from the representative works of Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali on the subject of apostasy. Furthermore, the findings of their thinking are studied through the framework of negotiative hermeneutic theory. This theory was initiated by Khaled Abou El Fadl who pointed to the negotiations between the three entities, the author, the text and the reader. There are three key variables in discussing the thinking of Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali. From texts and authority, the discourse of authoritarianism to the anatomy of the discourses of authority. Based on that, the approach taken here is socio-legal. The first conclusion both Mustafa Akyol and Hashim Kamali have rejected the death penalty for apostasy. Second conclusion is using three variables when being analyzed by negotiative hermeneutic. In text and authority is able to be seen how a text is formed and its relationship with the social reality that surrounds it. The differences between the public who became the audience of them necessitate the differences in steps in the re-reading of this topic. On the discourse of authoritarianism can be reviewed the formation of non-authoritarian law by placing it as an entity that is constantly changing. Besides meeting the five prerequisites set by the hermeneutics of negotiations. In the anatomy of authoritarian discourse, there are three things that are discussed: consistency, a selective attitude to signs to the balance of interests and rationality. These two thinkers consistently use their respective steps in this topic. While Mustafa Akyol is selective to the sign, unlike Hashim Kamali. Despite this, they met at the same point with the conclusion that there is no death penalty for apostate perpetrators. This discussion is based on the success of both merging the importance of preserving religion and protecting human rights

Knowledge acquisition in international strategic alliances among Malaysian manufacturing firms

This thesis examines the process of knowledge acquisition by Malaysian manufacturing firms through their involvement in international strategic alliances. The strategic alliances can be with or without equity involvement. Firms involved with a foreign partner with equity involvement are joint venture firms while non-equity involvement are firms that engaged in contractual agreements. Using empirical evidence from 65 international alliances gathered through a survey conducted in high-technology manufacturing sectors, several factors that influence the process of knowledge acquisition are examined. The factors are: learning capacity, experience, goals, active involvement and accessibility to the foreign knowledge. Censored regression analysis and ordered probit analysis are used to analyse the effects of these factors on knowledge acquisition and its determinant parts, and the effects of knowledge acquisition and its determinants on the performance of the alliances. A second questionnaire gathered evidence relating to the factors, which encouraged tacit knowledge transfer between the foreign and Malaysian partners in international alliances. The key findings of the study are: knowledge acquisition in international strategic alliances is influenced by five determining factors; learning capacity, experience, articulated goals, active involvement and accessibility; new technology knowledge, product development knowledge and manufacturing process knowledge are influenced differently by the determining factors; knowledge acquisition and its determinant factors have a significant impact on the firm’s performance; cultural differences tend to moderate the effect on the firm’s performance; acquiring tacit knowledge is not only influenced by the five determinant factors but also by other factors, such as dependency, accessibility, trust, manufacturing control, learning methods and organisational systems; Malaysian firms involved in joint ventures tend to acquire more knowledge than those involved in contractual agreements, but joint ventures also exhibit higher degrees of dependency than contractual agreements; and the presence of R&D activity in the Malaysian partner encourages knowledge acquisition, but the amount of R&D expenditure has no effect on knowledge acquisition

Effect of Classroom Emotional Climate on Students’ Engagement among Business Students in Saudi Arabia

    No full text
Student engagement is a significant element in learning at institutions of higher education. This becomes apparent among business students as the courses offered are quite challenging and require students to possess prior knowledge and skills. Such demanding circumstances distract students’ focus in class which creates disengagement between the students and their learning environment. Consequently, the course learning objectives and outcomes cannot be achieved. This study aims to explore the level of engagement through classroom emotional climate on business students, focusing on the International Business course, which is a mandatory course in the business degree programme. This study uses a peer observation method in assessing the phenomenon in a classroom setting. It is found that student-teacher interactions are vital in creating a positive emotional climate in the class which eventually escalates the students’ engagement in class.  In creating such a climate, the creativity of the instructor is necessary to ensure learning objectives are achieved.
