    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Pemisahan Torium dan Uranium dari Pasir Monazit Pulau Bangka dengan Metode Destruksi dan Pengendapan

    Thorium and uranium can be separated from monazite sand by destruction and precipitation method. Destruction was carried out using NaOH by wet and dry destruction method. Solids as the destruction result were diluted in concentrated HCl, followed by precipitation using NH4OH at pH 4 and 7. The precipitates were characterized by x-ray fluorescence. Thorium and uranium content from dry destruction were 2.40% and 0.137%, while those from wet destruction were 3.52% and 0.161%, respectively. Thorium and uranium from wet destruction had higher solubility than those from dry destruction method. By wet destruction methods the precipitates could not be obtained at pH 4, while at pH 7 the precipitates showed higher thorium content but lower uranium content than those by dry destruction. Based on thorium and uranium contents, the two methods did not give satification as separation output

    Infeksi nosokomial merupakan infeksi yang berasal atau terjadi di rumah sakit, disebabkan oleh penyebaran bakteri dari peralatan medis, dan menyebabkan 12–52% kematian di berbagai negara. Salah satu upaya pencegahannya adalah dengan menggunakan sarung tangan antibakteri. Pada penelitian ini, sarung tangan antibakteri dibuat dengan pencelupan dalam larutan antibakteri. Ion Ag+ memiliki kemampuan antibakteri dan belum dikembangkan sebagai agen penyalut pada sarung tangan medis. Pencelupan menyebabkan sarung tangan berwarna gelap diduga karena terbentuknya Ag2O. Kemampuan antibakteri sarung tangan terlapis Ag diuji sesuai dengan Japanese Standard Association dan menunjukkan kemampuan antibakteri dibandingkan dengan blangko. Efek bakterisidal sarung tangan lebih efektif pada bakteri Escherichia coli dengan daya hambat 85% sedangkan pada bakteri Staphylococcus aureus hanya 46%. Tambahan amilosa tertaut silang EPC pada larutan pencelup tidak meningkatkan kemampuan antibakteri sarung tangan. Waktu pencelupan optimum adalah 10 menit. Sarung tangan dapat disimpan hingga 2 pekan tanpa penurunan daya hambat

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Pemurnian Trinatrium Fosfat Hasil Samping Pengolahan Monasit dengan Metode Rekristalisasi dan Adsorpsi.

    Proses pengolahan monasit menjadi rare earth element (REE) dengan metode basa menghasilkan produk samping berupa garam trinatrium fosfat (Na3PO4). Garam tersebut masih mengandung pengotor yang bersifat radioaktif, yaitu 125.25 ppm uranium (U) dan 702 ppm torium (Th). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memurnikan Na3PO4 dengan metode rekristalisasi dan adsorpsi. Kondisi optimum rekristalisasi yang didapatkan ialah konsentrasi awal larutan Na3PO4 77.34 g/100 mL dengan waktu pengadukan 30 menit. Rasio adsorben optimum yang didapatkan adalah 10% dengan campuran adsorben karbon aktif dan bentonit (7:3). Rendemen Na3PO4 hasil rekristalisasi mencapai 90% dengan kemurnian fosfat 97%. Kadar uranium pada kristal menurun dari 125.25 hingga 54.41 ppm dan kadar Th tidak terdeteksi. Analisa termogravimetrik (TGA) kristal hasil rekristalisasi membuktikan terdapat 12 molekul H2O pada kisi kristal. Spektra fourier transform infrared (FTIR) Na3PO4 menunjukkan vibrasi ulur PO43- pada bilangan gelombang 993 cm-1, vibrasi asimetri dan simetri H2O pada bilangan gelombang 3585 cm-1 dan 2910−3585 cm-1, dan vibrasi tekuk H2O pada bilangan gelombang 1651 cm-1. Titik leleh kristal yang didapatkan memiliki rentang yang sempit sesuai dengan standar, yaitu 73−78.3 °C

    Remediation technology using zero valence Fe particles (Fe0) as an effective environmentally friendly pollutant degradation agent has been concerned by researchers in the last decade. In this research, Fe0 particles have been synthesized by using FeSO4·6H2O and Na2S2O3. The Fe0 particles were then tested for their ability in degrading hexachlorobenzene (HCB), hexachloroethane (HCE), and dodecylbenzenesulfonate (DBS) including their degradation performance and their respective kinetics. The degradation performance assay showed that the Fe0 particles were not able to degrade HCB and HCE optimally. However, DBS was successfully degraded by Fe0 even though it had just reached about 50% from the initial concentration. The best DBS degradation was conducted at pH 4 with optimum time of 40 minutes. DBS degradation reaction followed partial first order with an observed rate constant (k) of 4.0×10-3 min-1 and 8.74×10-3 min-1 for graphic method and substitution method, respectively

    Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
