En mémoire de son père, mais aussi d'un passé dans lequel il se considère comme un sujet impliqué, il a écrit deux romans - et d'autres textes - sur les héritages de la guerre coloniale.<br><br>Dans le podcast MAPS, nous parlons avec Paulo Faria des silences, des héritages et des raisons pour lesquelles, afin de découvrir son père, il a d'abord dû découvrir la guerre : une guerre contre l'oubli, une guerre contre le deuil, une guerre contre le traumatisme, une guerre contre lui-même, une guerre contre les façons dont cet événement est encore pensé et raconté au Portugal aujourd'hui. É escritor e tradutor literário e é muitíssimo provável que já se tenham deparado com o seu nome impresso lá em casa mais do que uma vez, nalgum dos livros de Cormac McCarthy, Charles Dickens ou George Orwell que verteu para português. Em memória da memória do pai, mas também de um passado do qual se assume como sujeito implicado, escreveu dois romances – e outros textos – em torno dos legados da guerra colonial.<br><br>No podcast do projeto MAPS conversamos com Paulo Faria sobre silêncios, heranças e sobre as razões que explicam como para descobrir o pai, foi preciso primeiro descobrir a guerra: uma guerra contra o esquecimento, uma guerra com o luto, uma guerra contra o trauma, uma guerra consigo mesmo, uma guerra contra os modos como ainda hoje se pensa e conta este acontecimento em Portugal. Isso significa que elas têm força, autoridade tanto na forma de texto escrito (drama), como na forma de ação encenada (performance). A literatura, instituição baseada na pretensa estabilidade da palavra escrita, costuma simplificar o teatro à apenas drama, especialmente em se tratando de autores canônicos como William Shakespeare. Considerando tal contexto, a presente investigação analisa a relação entre linguagens verbais e não-verbais em performance teatral baseada em texto dramático, visando entender o processo que transforma o texto dramático em comportamento teatral (de acordo com o conceito de W. B. Worthen de dramatic performativity). Especificamente, esta investigação analisa os elementos verbais e não-verbais usados para produzir humor na tradução de The Taming of the Shrew, de Beatriz Viégas-Faria, e na encenação de A Megera Domada dirigida por Patrícia Fagundes e encenada em 2008, em Porto Alegre, pela Cia. Rústica. Os parâmetros conceituais utilizados nessa investigação são determinados por Worthen (2003), Patrice Pavis (1995) e Richard Schechner (2003, 2006), sendo que a análise da produção teatral é baseada na teoria de mise en scène de Pavis (1995).Theatre plays enjoy a status of both dramatic literature and performance. This means that they have force, authority as both written texts (drama) and staged action (performance). Literature, an institution base based on a pretense stability of the written word, tends to reduce theatre to drama, especially when it concerns canonic authors such as William Shakespeare. In face of this context, the present investigation analyzes the relation between verbal and non-verbal languages in stage performance of scripted drama, aiming at understanding the process to which the dramatic text is subject in order to be transformed into stage behavior (according to W. B. Worthen's concept of "dramatic performativity"). More specifically, it analyzes the verbal and non-verbal elements used to construct humor, in Beatriz Viégas-Faria's translation of The Taming of the Shrew and in Patrícia Fagundes's staging of A Megera Domada, performed in 2008, in Porto Alegre, by Cia Rústica. The conceptual parameters that guide this investigation are drawn mainly from Worthen (2003), Patrice Pavis (1995) and Richard Schechner (2003, 2006), being the approach to the theatrical activity based on Pavis's (1995) theory of mise en scène

The trombone as portrayed in Portuguese iconography during the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries
No full textThis article studies eleven sixteenth and seventeenth century iconographical sources depicting slide brass instruments, by both Portuguese and foreign artists active in Portugal, as well as foreign artists depicting Portuguese scenes. This study addresses questions concerning aspects of trombone technique that have not previously been considered and may have implications in the way the trombone was understood elsewhere in Europe. It focuses on aspects of technique depicted that may be representative of the trombone’s contemporary design and performance and therefore the manner in which the instrument was held and indeed played. Finally, this article suggests a transitional technical period when the way of holding the single-slide trumpet may have been used to play the trombone.Publisher PD

Structural Variants and Speciation: Multiple Processes at Play
No full textResearch on the genomic architecture of speciation has increasingly revealed the importance of structural variants (SVs) that affect the presence, abundance, position, and/or direction of a nucleotide sequence. SVs include large chromosomal rearrangements such as fusion/fissions, inversions and translocations, as well as smaller variants such as duplications, insertions, and deletions (CNVs). Although we have ample evidence that SVs play a key role in speciation, the underlying mechanisms differ depending on the type and length of the SV, as well as the ecological, demographic and historical context. We review predictions and empirical evidence for classic processes such as underdominance due to meiotic aberrations and the coupling effect of recombination suppression before exploring how recent sequencing methodologies illuminate the prevalence and diversity of SVs. We discuss specific properties of SVs and their impact throughout the genome, highlighting that multiple processes are at play, and possibly interacting, in the relationship between SVs and speciation.Fil: Berdan, Emma L..
