Cooperative Semiglobal Robust Output Regulation of Non-Introspective Nonlinear Agents With Partial Normal Form and State-Dependent High-Frequency Gain

    No full text
This paper investigates cooperative semig-lobal robust output regulation problem for a class of non-introspective nonlinear multiagent systems. Each agent of this class is allowed to have a partial normal form, instead of only the conventional normal form, with a state-dependent high-frequency gain. Besides, all agents are unaccessible to the controller states of their neighbors. In this setting, if the uniform detectability assumption in the sense of [25] is satisfied, then a robust distributed regulator can be designed with the employment of a distributed nonlinear internal model and a novel distributed extended lower-power high-gain observer, such that the numerical implementation problem is solved and the regulated output of each agent asymptotically converges to the desired reference input robustly with guaranteed domain attraction.Ministry of Education (MOE)This work was supported in part by the Academic Research Fund Tier 1 under Grant 2015-T1-002-135 (RG 168/15), Singapore, in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 61573322, in part by the Open Research Project of the State Key Laboratory of Industrial Control Technology, Zhejiang University, China, under Grant ICT1800420 and in part by the Science Fund for Creative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grant 61621002, and National Natural Science Foundation of China 61533013. Cellphone remote intelligent neuroregulation with self-powered wireless brain probe

    No full text
The neural regulation that is tele-controlled remotely by medical professionals or artificial intelligence (AI) agents can meet the requirement of rapid, precise, personalized intervention and optimize the allocation of medical resources. Here, we develop a new self-powered wireless mini-invasive brain probe for remote intelligent neuroregulation. The probe can be wirelessly powered and controlled by cellphone audio tones (through piezoelectric effect) with the assistance of AI cellphone video analysis. The probe consists of a biocompatible pedestal integrated with implanting stimulation electrodes connected to embedded magnets and a magnetically coupled custom-designed signal-intensifying resonator integrated with a piezoelectric powered signal modulation circuit. A programmed audio tone functions as the wireless power source, and it can be tele-transmitted remotely from other cellphones with desired neural stimulation protocols. Combined with AI-enabled video monitoring of the epileptic tremor, we show that the probe can relieve the seizure events in the epileptic mice, and the therapeutic effect is confirmed by in-vivo electroencephalography and free-moving scenario. The multi-functionality of versatility, AI-assistance, wireless power transfer, and tele-transmission of the cellphone-interacted brain probe opens the possibility for remote precision neural modulation

    The Factor Analysis Report

Rapid urbanization and urban population growth are placing increasing pressure on the transport systems of Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) cities. In response, major cities in the region have implemented or are in the process of implementing bus rapid transit (BRT) systems, which is seen as an affordable way to address the mobility challenges. To enable a financially sustainable BRT system and mobilize private capital more efficiently, it is critical for SSA governments to have an in-depth understanding and comprehensive assessment of these factors to develop contextually appropriate, effective solutions. This study aims to assist both public and private sector stakeholders to enhance the financial sustainability and commercial viability of BRT systems in SSA by: (i) identifying, framing, and analyzing the key factors influencing the financial sustainability and commercial viability of SSA BRTs; and (ii) developing a robust analytical tool to guide a high-level assessment of the factors influencing the financial sustainability and commercial viability of SSA BRT systems. The study was conducted in five stages: (1) project inception, (2) desktop review, (3) stakeholder engagement, (4) factor identification and analysis, and (5) assessment tool development. Chapter one introduces the objectives and context of the project. Chapters two and three capture key findings for several major BRT initiatives, in particular in Cape Town (South Africa), George (South Africa), and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), providing a basis for the characterization of challenges and factors that impact financial sustainability and commercial viability. Chapter four articulates nine fundamental factors and their associated key actions and recommendations to enhance BRTs’ financial sustainability and commercial viability. Finally, chapter five provides a user guide for the factor assessment tool that should be used by decision makers when exploring the possibility of developing BRTs as an urban mobility solution

Two-dimensional block diagonal LMS adaptive filtering

    No full text
This paper is concerned with the development of a two-dimensional (2-D) adaptive filters using the block diagonal least mean squared (BDLMS) method. In this adaptive filtering scheme the image is scanned and processed block by block in a diagonal fashion, and the filter weights are adjusted once per block rather than once per pixel. The diagonal scanning is adopted to avoid the problems inherent in the 1-D standard scanning schemes and to account for the correlations in two directions. The weight updating equation for 2-D BDLMS is derived and the convergence properties of the algorithms are investigated. Simulation results that indicate the effectiveness of the 2-D BDLMS when used for image enhancement, estimation, and detection applications are presented

Planning for accessibility and rural roads

Transport and communications bulletin for Asia and the Far East. (0041-1396) Recognizing the benefits of investment in rural road development, many countries have considered extensive rural road development programmes in their countries. As a result, vast networks of rural roads have been developed in many developing countries of the region. However, countries have faced a number of challenges in implementing such programmes. The major challenge in rural road development is both to expand road networks in order to provide access to remote areas and to upgrade and maintain already existing roads. The positive experiences of countries that have successfully met these challenges are worth sharing. In consideration of the importance and interest in the subject, the bulletin discusses on the following issues: Article 1: Quantification of accessibility and prioritization of villages for local level planning - by Ashoke K. Sarkar and Motilal Dash; Article 2: Choice of Bituminous Otta Seal Surfacing An Economic Pavement Surfacing for Low Volume Roads - by Durga Prasad Osti; Article 3: Development of a Sustainable Rural Roads Maintenance System in India: Key Issues - by Ashoke K. Sarkar; and Article 4: Rural Road Maintenance in China - by Hongye Fan.Article 1: Quantification of accessibility and prioritization of villages for local level planning - by Ashoke K.
