Structural organization of the copulation site in the medfly Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae)
No full textThe copulation site of the medfly Ceratitis capitata was investigated at anatomical and ultrastructural levels. It consists of the anterior vagina, with a ventral fertilization chamber and a dorsal insemination pocket into which the two spermathecal ducts open. The fertilization chamber is an organ comprised of a number of alveoli that in virgin females are filled with a filamentous secretion, whereas in mated females contain sperm bundles. Through study of the internal morphology of the aedeagus, its position in the anterior vagina, and the direct observation of sperm transfer and storage, we confirmed that sperm are ejaculated through two gonopores at the top of the distiphallus and another at the base of the genital rod. The sperm flow dorsally into the insemination pocket and ventrally into the fertilization chamber. During copulation, the two spermathecae and the fertilization chamber are progressively filled with spermatozoa

No full textIl rapporto tra legalità e tipicità penale vive nel sistema multilivello una sua evidente proiezione critica. La dimensione positiva della norma sovranazionale non manca di sopportare controlimiti di diritto interno che finiscono per condizionarne l'ambito di operatività, se non nel momento della cooperazione giudiziaria a livello di indagine, sicuramente in quello di un eventuale provvedimento limitativo della libertà personale. Ed è quello che si verifica nei rapporti tra concussione e induzione indebita nel diritto penale italiano, dove la criminalizzazione del falso concusso per le esigenze di cui sopra, a ben vedere, ha finito per lasciare un vuoto di tutela nelle ipotesi di falso concussore. Il lavoro si propone di dare una risposta razionale a tale esigenza di politica criminale secondo regole di garanzia dommatica
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textCancer frequency in muscle-specific kinase myasthenia gravis (MuSK-MG) has not yet been explored and the mechanisms leading to the formation of MuSK IgG remain elusive. We aimed to explore cancer frequency in MuSK-MG patients and to assess MuSK expression in cancer cells from 2 tumors occurred in this cohort. Immunohistochemistry on tumor specimens revealed the expression of MuSK in the cancer cells from primary mediastinal B cell lymphoma and endometrial carcinoma. Twenty-one males and 73 females were enrolled. Fifteen cancers occurred in 13 of 94 patients (13.8%). Patients with cancer were significantly older at time of MuSK-MG onset

Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.
