Bulk Acoustic Wave Gyroscope With Spoked Structure

    No full text
A Coriolis-based bulk acoustic wave gyroscope includes a center-supported resonating element with capacitively-coupled drive, sense, and control electrodes. The resonating element has a first substantially solid or perforated region which is connected to the center-support by a second region characterized by a plurality of spokes or beams. When operating in a resonance state, the first region undergoes a bulk acoustic mode of vibration while the second region undergoes a flexural mode of vibration. Energy losses associated with the flexural mode of vibration reduce the overall quality factor (Q) at high resonance frequencies creating a large bandwidth and a fast response time without needing vacuum.Georgia Tech Research CorporationAyazi, FarrokhSung, Wang-KyungZaman, Mohammad Faisa

Synthesis, Identification, and Characterization of a Novel 1,2,5-Selenadiazole Derivative as a Microtubule Targeting Agent That Overcomes Multidrug Resistance

    No full text
ABSTRACTMicrotubules are crucial for various cellular processes, including cell division, where they form highly dynamic spindle fibers for chromosomal alignment and segregation. Interference with microtubule dynamics through microtubule targeting agents (MTAs) blocks progression through mitosis, ultimately resulting in apoptosis. Although MTAs have been effectively used as a frontline treatment for various cancers, multidrug resistance (MDR) often limits their effectiveness. This study focuses on selenadiazoles, a group of organic selenium compounds with anticancer activities. Eighteen novel 1,2,5-selenadiazole derivatives were synthesized, three of which (9d, 9f, and 9i) showed potent antiproliferative activity in HCT116 colorectal cancer cells. Treatment of cells with 9f (SSE1706), one of the most potent compounds (GI50 value of 1.89 ± 0.99 µM), disrupted mitotic spindle formation, leading to G2/M arrest. 9f inhibited microtubule polymerization in cell-based assays, and long-term treatment with 9f stabilized p53 and induced apoptosis. Moreover, 9f effectively inhibited the growth of mouse and human colon cancer-derived organoids. Finally, 9f exhibited potent antiproliferative activity against MDR-1 overexpressing KB-V1 cells, highlighting its potential to overcome MDR. These findings suggest 9f as a lead compound for further optimization studies, particularly targeting MDR.This study received support from two Faculty Initiatives Fund grants (FIF-842) and (FIF-406) awarded by the Lahore University of ManagementSciences (LUMS) to Rahman Shah Zaib Saleem and Amir Faisal, respectively. In this study, the structural, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties of Zn(1-x)MgxO (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5) nano-compounds obtained by the addition of MgO to pure ZnO nano-compounds obtained by solid state reaction were investigated in detail. These nanomaterials were deposited by spin coating technique in hetero-structure of ZnO/Zn(1-x)MgxO. It was found by detailed structure solution that the crystal systems of nano materials obtained with MgO additive remained hexagonal, but the space group was transferred from P63mc to P6/mmm. The thermal gravimetry analysis shows the stability of prepared nanomaterials, the UV-Vis spectroscopy shows that the bandgap of the prepared was decreased from 3.02 to 2.52 eV with the Mg doping percentage. The Magnetization measurements at room temperature showed that all four of these Zn(1-x)MgxO nanostructures exhibited soft ferromagnetic behavior. The analysis of the ZnO/Zn(1-x)MgxO heterostructure showed that its band gap was increased from 3.69 to 3.79 eV, its carrier density was decreased from 1.14 x 10(19) to 4.20 x 10(13 )cm(-3) which introduce it as a good material to be used in optoelectronic devices field.Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia [2019190]This work was supported by Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Saudi Arabia through Grant No. 2019190. Get PDF
The incidence of pneumothorax is 10% of all COVID-19 patients and increases in patients who develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) with mechanical ventilation, responsible for 24% of the population. As many as 60.7% of patients who have complications of pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum lead to mortality. This study was established to determine the potential of early tracheostomy in preventing the occurrence of pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum in COVID-19 and reducing mortality. This research was conducted as a descriptive study by case series of three COVID-19 patients in Jakarta, Indonesia in the span of 2021-2022. Tracheostomy performed within 10 days, did not develop a pneumothorax. Although, the patient did not have any comorbidities, age below 70 years, and coagulopathy problem, there was still a risk of recurrent pneumothorax post COVID-19 after tracheostomy. However, a tracheostomy is a procedure that poses an aerosol risk, so there is concern about the transmission of COVID-19 to medical personnel who perform it. Early tracheostomy has the potential to accelerate the resolution of COVID-19 disease in patients and has a positive impact on lung vitality. It is aimed to prevent hypoxic conditions and optimize the lung recruitment process. In addition, they did not experience complications from COVID-19 in the form of an air leak syndrome such as a pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum

Influence of nozzle area ratio on the gas-particle flow for single-hose dry ice blasting nozzle

    No full text
In this paper, a numerical study was performed to examine the effect of divergent nozzle length of single-hose dry ice blasting on the development of acoustic power level. The active working medium is the mixture of solid dry ice particles and compressible air fluid at the inlet section. The two-dimensional planar model was solved using the finite volume method. The model has been verified theoretically by comparing to four different properties which are pressure ratio, density ratio, temperature ratio, and Mach number ratio over different nozzle area ratios (NARs). The results are presented in the quantitative and qualitative morphological views. The result shows that a more significant value of the NAR gives the highest value of velocity and acoustic power level along the nozzle cavity, of which 560 m s−1 and 146.2 dB, respectively. Besides, turbulence intensity is the most significant influencing factor for the acoustic power level development along the nozzle cavity since the trend of acoustic power level and turbulence intensity are the same. The characteristic of particle gas flow provides a novelty approach to determine the most significant influence factor of the performance and the noise emission
