    No full text
This project is the result of the research for the graduation project of Project HUMAM; Hub for Urban Mobility for the Amsterdam Metropolitan area. The project focuses on the future demands of the Amsterdam Municipality in which they expect an increase of 70.000 new households and 50.000 new working areas over the coming 30 - 40 years in Havenstad area. More people are moving from their village to the city or the suburbs, creating a full expanse of the city boundary and less space to accommodate the residents. However, the Municipality acknowledge the fact that this growth also brings difficulty in the accommodation of the expected households. Amsterdam Havenstad has been chosen to be the new urban core for these developments. The area is well-known for its extensive industries and enterprises, making this area rich and profound for the economic heart of the city, which will make its shift towards a mixed-use region for industry and residents. To accommodate these amount of people, the Municipality sees new opportunities in technological innovations and sees the use of a car as a potential problem in terms of land-use and health. Therefore, project HUMAM will analyse and research the Sloterdijk area, to accommodate a transportation hub for the city. This hub enables the district to ban the car and put the focus on Automated Vehicles and shared possibilities. To keep Sloterdijk connected, the hub will perform as the catalyst for the area. This project tries to posit a vision of a future where anyone in the city can go wherever they want, whenever they want to, and accordingly, a place where we share our spaces in total connectivity with our mechanic neighbours. Project HUMAM will be the landmark of innovation and offers solutions to this growing problem.Architecture, Urbanism and Building Science

Apostasy (Irtidâd) in Islamic Jurisprudence; is it a Creedal or a Political Crime: Ibn al-Humam (d. 861/1457)

This article aimed to explore the nature of the penalty of the apostasy (irtidad) to what extent it is creedal or political crime, with particular reference to Hanafite penal law which served as the law of Islamic world for a period of a millennium. In expounding this law I have chosen the text of jurist-author of this School, Ibn al-Humam (d. 861/1457) which offered a mere document for the subject-matter. The analysis in this essay exposed that Hanafi juristic conception considered the act of apostasy not a creedal but a political offence. Thereof the ratio legis ('illa) of death penalty imposed to the apostate (murtad) is not his commitment of disbelief (kufr) but his renouncement of the social, legal and political authority and system of the state and abandoning his membership of Muslim community after once accepted it. Consequently he has been accounted as a potential threat as a warring enemy to the survival of the Muslim community and its state. I understand that the jurists did not give the state legal authority to interrogate and punish the disbelief of its subjects. Belief of the individual rests between him and God

Whether man is free in making his actions, in other words the matter of fate, is one of the important problems that have occupied the Islamic Society since the first periods. Ibn AlHumam, one of the important representatives of the maturidi Kalam School in Mutaakhirin period, dealt with this issue in his work, which he produced in the field of kalam and named al-Musâyere fi'l-akâidi'l-münciye fi'l-âhire. The author in this work, as the name suggests, has manifested the true principles of belief that will lead Muslims to salvation in the hereafter. The most important of these principles is a firm belief in Allah. A true and firm belief in Allah is based on knowing his names, attributes and actions. In particular, it will contribute to knowing the supreme creator in determining the position and role of the human being who is subjected to testing in the world in the face of Allah almighty with absolute knowledge, will and power. In this study, Ibn al-Humâm's views about whether or not human beings are free while performing their actions will be put forward on the basis of concepts such as will, power, achievement, incident, and destiny. Similarities and differences with the Maturidiyyah sect which he belongs to will be determined
