THEME AND RHEME OF THE MALAY PANTUN USED IN THE WEDDING CEREMONY IN LANGKAT
This research deals with theme and rheme of the Malay pantun used in wedding ceremony in Langkat. The objectives of this study are (1) to investigate the kinds of textual developments are used in the Malay pantun in the wedding ceremony in Langkat, (2) to the process of textual developments used in the Malay pantun in the wedding ceremony in Langkat, (3) to explain for the use of textual developments of the Malay pantun in the wedding ceremony in Langkat,. This study is qualitative research, the data are utterances that consist of theme and rheme in the event of hailing the groom which is uttered by the mediators and the source of data are pantun in wedding ceremony in langkat especially in the event of hailing the groom, mobile phone is used for recording and visualizing in the wedding ceremony as the instrument to collect the data needed. Some findings are drawn, firstly there are seven kinds of textual development used in Malay pantun of wedding ceremony namely: constant theme, constant rheme, linear theme, linear rheme,split theme, split rheme, and zig-zag secondly there are four elements of textual development, namely marked simple theme and unmarked simple theme, marked multiple themes and unmarked multiple themes. The lastpantun commonly has relation from the first stanza until the last stanza,pantun need to be expressed in good grammar and structure but it is often in ungrammatical or incorrect structure form
Implementation of School Literacy Movement of The Class XI SMK Kesehatan Haji Sumatera Utara
The purpose of this research was to know the students’ implementation of school literacy program. The design of this research was descriptive quantitative research by using Survey method. The instrument of this research was questionnaire to know the implementation of students toward the school literacy program. The population of this research was all of the eleventh grade students of SMK Kesehatan Haji Sumut which consisted of 3 majors and 59 students. The sample was all of the population because this research was using total sampling technique The instrument validity test was carried out by using expert validity to three experts as instrument validators and to analyze the data was done by identifying the responses, counting the percentages of each indicator and taking the conclusion. The results of the research showed that the average score of the habituation stage of school literacy program was 38,07% which was good perception. The average score of the development stage of school literacy program was 38,22% which was good perception. The last, the average score of the learning stage of school literacy program was 38,66% which was good perception. It can be concluded, the average mean of students’ perception toward the implementation of school literacy program was 38,30% which was in good category in the rating interpretation 60%-39,99%
Students Perception of Gamified Learning in EFL Class : Online Quizizz for Engagement and Motivation
This study investigated gamified learning, particularly online quizizz, in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) One digital educational game that is gaining popularity is quizizz, a game-based online test that enables entertaining multiplayer teaching activities and allows learners to practice with their devices. This study aimed to examine students' perceptions of the use of quizizz on student motivation and engagement. A descriptive quantitative research design was used in this study, in which data were collected from questionnaires to gain insight into how quizizz affected the aspects of motivation and engagement. The questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study found that quizizz significantly increased students' motivation to learn English, with the interactive nature of the platform being a key factor in boosting their enthusiasm for language learning. Despite a minority of respondents finding quizizz boring, the majority reported enjoying the platform's gamified approach to learning and felt more active and engaged during classes where quizizz was utilized. Additionally, participants acknowledged quizizz's substantial contribution to their knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar. Moreover, the study found that quizizz positively shaped students' perceptions of online learning, its potential to enhance digital learning experiences and enhance student engagement in english learning. The findings underscore the beneficial effects of quizizz on student motivation and engagement
English Training in Customer Service and Negotiation at 13ML Coffe
Pelayanan pelanggan dan kemampuan negosiasi merupakan keterampilan penting dalam dunia bisnis, khususnya dalam industri kuliner dan kafe. Pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris karyawan 13ML Coffee dalam konteks pelayanan pelanggan (customer service) dan negosiasi. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini dilakukan melalui pendekatan pelatihan langsung, simulasi, dan evaluasi. Exploring Students’ Engagement in English Classes Using SPADA UNPRI Platforms
This study explores the impact of the SPADA UNPRI platform on student engagement in English classes at Universitas Prima Indonesia. The objectives are to analyze the platform’s effectiveness in fostering cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement and to identify factors influencing its implementation. This research uses a mixed-methods approach, the research uses a sequential explanatory design, beginning with quantitative data collection through surveys from 100–150 students, followed by qualitative data from interviews and focus group discussions involving 10–15 participants. The findings reveal that SPADA UNPRI significantly enhances cognitive engagement, with 78% of students reporting an improved understanding of English materials. Emotional engagement is also supported, as 65% found quizzes and interactive features motivating. Behavioral engagement is evident, with 72% of students actively participating in forums. However, challenges such as limited internet connectivity and insufficiently structured social interactions were noted. The study recommends enhancing technical infrastructure to ensure equitable access and incorporating more collaborative activities to strengthen relatedness among learners. By addressing these areas, SPADA UNPRI can further its role as an effective tool for improving student engagement and achieving meaningful learning outcomes
Pelatihan English Communication Skills untuk Situasi Pelayanan Kesehatan pada Siswa Kelas 11 SMK Kesehatan
Kemampuan komunikasi bahasa Inggris merupakan kompetensi penting bagi siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) Kesehatan, terutama dalam menghadapi dunia kerja yang semakin global dan multikultural. Tenaga kesehatan dituntut mampu berkomunikasi secara efektif dengan pasien, tenaga medis asing, serta memahami istilah dan situasi pelayanan kesehatan dalam bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan English Communication Skills siswa kelas XI SMK Kesehatan dalam konteks pelayanan kesehatan melalui pelatihan yang terstruktur dan aplikatif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pelatihan berbasis praktik, role play, diskusi, simulasi kasus, serta evaluasi pre-test dan post-test. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada kemampuan berbicara, pemahaman kosakata medis dasar, serta kepercayaan diri siswa dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris pada situasi pelayanan kesehatan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap kesiapan kerja siswa SMK Kesehatan serta menjadi model pelatihan serupa di institusi pendidikan vokasi lainnya
Penerapan Mind Mapping dalam Pembelajran Writing Bahasa Inggris di MTs. Alwashliyah
This community service program aimed to enhance the writing skills of students at Mts. Alwashliyah by applying the mind mapping technique. The primary objective was to assist students in organizing their thoughts and generating structured written content. The method involved a series of workshops, practical sessions, and evaluations. The students were first introduced to the concept of mind mapping, followed by hands-on practice sessions to apply the technique in their writing exercises. The program utilized pre-tests and post-tests to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in students' writing performance. After implementing mind mapping, students demonstrated better organization, richer vocabulary, and enhanced creativity in their written texts. The post-test scores increased by an average of 20% compared to the pre-test results, indicating a positive impact of the technique on their writing abilities. In conclusion, mind mapping proved to be an effective strategy for improving students' writing skills by helping them systematically organize their ideas. This technique not only enhanced their writing competence but also boosted their confidence in expressing themselves. The program’s success highlights the potential for broader application in other educational settings to support English language learning
Pemanfaatan Penggunaan Chat GPT Dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris
ChatGPT is an AI tool that has sparked debates about its potential implications for education. We used the SWOT analysis framework to outline ChatGPT’s strengths and weaknesses and to discuss its opportunities for and threats to education. ChatGPT can increase access to information, facilitate Personalised and complex learning, and decrease teaching workload, thereby making key processes and tasks more efficient. The weaknesses are a lack of deep understanding, difficulty in evaluating the quality of responses, a risk of bias and discrimination, and a lack of higher-order thinking skills. The aim of this community service is to inform about the benefits of using ChatGPT in teaching English for teachers at Mts Muhammadiyah 15 Medan and to conduct a SWOT analysis of ChatGPT
