Teatro che creste. Audience development, formazione, cultura del progetto

    No full text

Blood testing in Biathlon : Observation of hematocrit values during competitive periods 1994-97

The International Biathlon Union, through its own Medical Commission, has undertaken a three-year program aimed at identifying the hematocrit levels of athletes who participate in biathlons. The purpose was to check for hematocrit levels exceeding normal physiological values as well as for any significant modifications within individuals during the course of the competitive season. All of the athletes registered in international biathlon races were, therefore, subjected to venous blood sampling (1 cc) three times a year prior to competition, in the days preceding two World Cup races (December and January) and the World Championships (February). The blood was centrifuged, the micro-hematocrit determined, and the value (rendered anonymous) recorded. This procedure was repeated for three consecutive competitive seasons (Dec. 1994-Feb. 1995, Dec. 1995-Feb. 1996, Dec. 1996-Feb. 1997). During this three-year period, the collected data showed a significant lowering of the average hematocrit level. In fact, from the first February sampling to the third February sampling, the average hematocrit value for the male population dropped from 48.04 +/- 2.36 to 46.33 +/- 1.91, and for the female population from 44.05 +/- 2.44 to 42.52 +/- 1.92. Even the distribution of the absolute hematocrit values was modified from the first to the third competitive season, especially for the February sampling, with a greater than or equal to 50% reduction for males and a greater than or equal to 48% reduction for females

An Incremental Test to Identify the Pain Threshold Speed in Patients With Intermittent Claudication

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to develop a test for identifying the speed of onset of claudication, or pain threshold speed (PTS), in 16 patients affected by intermittent claudication. An echo-Doppler examination and the ankle - brachial index (ABI) determination were also performed. Test repeatability was evaluated in 10 patients retested within a few days. All 16 patients underwent the incremental walking test 3 times during a 6-month rehabilitation training program to verify the test's sensitivity in detecting the expected functional modifications. PTS was identified in all patients examined and the test - retest correlation coefficient (R) for PTS was 0.98. During the 6-month rehabilitation period, the ABI rose from 0.43 ±0.16 to 0.72±0.15 for the worst limb and PTS also rose significantly from 3.9±1.4 km/h to 6.1±1.1 km/h. The average increments of ABI and PTS were significantly correlated. An incremental walking test for the identification of the walking speed at which claudication occurs has been developed. The PTS is a reproducible parameter that can be combined with other test results to establish the severity of the disease and to check any modifications that occur during rehabilitation

    Il ponte e lo specchio

    No full text
Starting point of the article’s thesis is the author's personal experience of theatrical practice and contact with other theatrical cultures, especially in Asia and, even more, in Japan. Aim of the text is to analyse the reasons for the mutual fascination between typically Western theatrical forms and practices, such as what is generically defined as Commedia dell'Arte and others that, equally generically, are defined as Oriental Theatres. This attraction has origins (even if subconscious) that are not only theatrical but rather cultural, or even better, related to cultural visions. The image of the Commedia dell’Arte - a tradition re-invented in the course of the 20th century and made mythical in the collective imagination by the theatrical avant-gardes in the perspective of a profound renewal of European theatre - corresponds to a vision of a generic Theatre of the East, repository of a sort of imaginary purity that has remained uncontaminated and unchanged over the centuries - the so-called living traditions. These theatrical visions are, in turn, the result of the construction of induced cultural identities, of distorted visions of the Other. They are thus part of a cultural imagology that rests on the sedimentation of ideological constructs ranging from mythopoiesis to exoticism, and even corresponds to an induced vision of identity of Japan and Italy. Finally, by returning the discussion to a purely artistic sphere, the importance of the dynamics leading to the hybridisation of languages is assessed, a fertile ground for the connection and construction of cultural bridges and a heuristic practice, moreover, typical of the Commedia dell'Arte, as it made hybridisation its essence, modulating and regenerating itself in European theatres, and not only, from the 16th century onwards.L’articolo prende spunto dall’esperienza personale della pratica teatrale e del contatto dell’autore con altre culture teatrali, in particolare dell’Asia e ancor più in particolare del Giappone, per analizzare le ragioni della reciproca fascinazione e attrazione fra forme teatrali e pratiche tipicamente occidentali quali quella che si definisce genericamente come Commedia dell’Arte e quelle, altrettanto genericamente, definite con la formula di Teatri orientali.

TRPP2 dysfunction decreases ATP-evoked calcium, induces cell aggregation and stimulates proliferation in T lymphocytes

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is mainly characterised by the development and enlargement of renal cysts that lead to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in adult patients. Other clinical manifestations of this pathology include hypertension, haematuria, abdominal pain, cardiovascular system alterations and intracranial aneurysms. ADPKD is linked to mutations in either PKD1 or PKD2 that codifies polycystin-1 (PC1) and polycystin-2 (PC2 or TRPP2), respectively. PC1 and TRPP2 are membrane proteins that function as receptor-channel elements able to regulate calcium homeostasis. The function of polycystins has been mainly studied in kidney cells; but the role of these proteins in T lymphocytes is not well defined. Methods: T lymphocytes were produced from ADPKD1 and ADPKD2 patients as well as from non-ADPKD subjects undergoing renal replacement therapy (RRT) and healthy controls. Protein expression and phosphorylation levels were analysed by western blotting, cell proliferation was calculated by direct counting using trypan blue assay and intracellular calcium concentration was measured by Fura-2 method. Results: PKD2 mutations lead to the significant reduction of TRPP2 expression in T lymphocytes derived from ADPKD patients. Furthermore, a smaller TRPP2 truncated protein in T lymphocytes of patients carrying the mutation R872X in PKD2 was also observed, suggesting that TRPP2 mutated proteins may be stably expressed. The silencing or mutation of PKD2 causes a strong reduction of ATP-evoked calcium in Jurkat cells and ADPKD2 T lymphocytes, respectively. Moreover, T lymphocytes derived from both ADPKD1 and ADPKD2 patients show increased cell proliferation, basal chemotaxis and cell aggregation compared with T lymphocytes from non-ADPKD subjects. Similarly to observations made in kidney cells, mutations in PKD1 and PKD2 dysregulate ERK, mTOR, NFkB and MIF pathways in T lymphocytes. Conclusions: Because the alteration of ERK, mTOR, NFkB and MIF signalling found in T lymphocytes of ADPKD patients may contribute to the development of interstitial inflammation promoting cyst growth and kidney failure (ESRD), the targeting of inflammasome proteins could be an intriguing option to delay the progression of ADPKD. © 2019 The Author(s)

In the present work, the author studies, as a pre-treatment for the conventional thermomechanical process., the impregnation with 96º GL ethyl alcohol, of wood chips from Pinus ellilttii var. elliottii. The investigated procedure consisted in the compression of the chips, followed by immersion in ethanol up to a full impregnation. The chips were then again compressed where by the liquid not retained by the chips was separated. As best conditions under which the pre-treatment could be done became established the following ones: X = pressure applied in the first compressive stage 10 kgf/cm²; X = impregnation time for the chips 5 minutes; X = temperature of the impregnation fluid 70º C; X = pressure applied in the second compressive stage 10 kgf/cm². By the thermomechanical process, were prepared pulps using chips, pre-treated and non-pre-treated. The comparision of the resulting pulps revealed that the specific energy consumption to attain the same drainage level, in CSF, was lower for pulp obtained from pre-treated pulps. For the pulp, the shive content also as lower and its mechanical characteristics were more favorable. Concerning the optical properties, a higher opacity and a higher brightness could be observed. To evaluate the economic feasibility of implementing the pre-treatment conventional, the laboratory data were used to suggest, at a preliminary stage, a process which uses the pre-treatment, on a real scale. Resuming the process, for comparative purpose, also in a conventional manner, the collected data were used to best the economic pre-feasilibity. Although the process with pre-treatment when compared with the conventional procedure, offered technical advantages, the technology suggested at a preliminary stage, has to suffer certain improvement in under to turn the modified process economically feasible
