We wish to build a model, which could predict the outcome of basketball games. The goal was to achieve an sufficient enough accuracy to make a profit in sports betting. One learning example is a game in the NBA regular season. Every example has multiple features, which describe the opposing teams. We tried many methods, which return the probability of the home team winning and the probability of the away team winning. These probabilities are used for risk analysis. We used the best model in hypothetical sports betting and measured potential net profit. The results are not perfect, so we mentioned possible improvements. I think that a lot of the ideas could also be of use in other fields, which deal with risk and predicting the future

From "reformed communist" to nation’s "reconciler" - the political career and ambitions of Borut Pahor (1986-2011)

The article discusses Borut Pahor’s political career from his first steps when entering the Communist Party to the moment he prematurely ended his mandate as the prime minister of the Republic of Slovenia. By studying a wide range of media reporting, from online articles and interviews to appearances in entertainment shows, the author discerns certain constants in Pahor’s political engagements that put him, as an individual, in a unique as well as outstanding position in the otherwise rather polarised Slovenian political landscape. Due to his proverbial differentness or exactly because of it, his efforts to bring together both opposing political camps, as noted by the author, have been fairly unsuccessful but still appealing to the majority of the public, as demonstrated by numerous public opinion polls in the last two decades as well as the fact that he is the most “trophy- -winning” politician in the history of the Republic of Slovenia

E-mail address: [email protected] (S Ostojic ́). Nina Pereza, MD, is a PhD student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka. She works at the Department of Biology and Medical Genetics and her main interest of research is reproductive genetics, especially genetic causes associated with idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortion. Abstract Idiopathic recurrent spontaneous abortion (IRSA) has been associated with abnormalities in the remodelling of endome- trial extracellular matrix, as well as aberrant matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) gene expression in endometrium of IRSA women and chorionic villi of IRSA concepti. This study investigated the association of five functional MMP gene promoter polymorphisms (MMP1 1607 1G/2G, MMP2 735 C/T, MMP2 1306 C/T, MMP3 1612 5A/6A and MMP9 1562 C/T) with IRSA. A total of 149 couples with at least three consecutive IRSA and 149 fertile couples were included in a case–control study. Genotype analysis was performed using PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism. Statistically significant differences were found in distributions of MMP2 735 CT (chi-squared 10.21, P = 0.006; OR 2.15, 95% CI 1.34–3.45, P = 0.001), and MMP9 1562 CC (chi-squared 9.06, P = 0.010; OR 2.21, 95% CI 1.30–3.80, P = 0.004) between IRSA women and controls. Combined analysis of MMP gene polymorphisms did not increase their predictive value. There were no statistically significant differences in genotype and allele frequencies of any polymorphism between IRSA men and controls. MMP2 735 C/T and MMP9 1562 C/T functional gene polymorphisms might be associated with an increased risk of IRSA in women

The aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of advanced cyber threats and identify the potential solutions that might offer a reliable protection against such threats. The author defined the concept of advanced cyber threats and demonstrated why nowadays the traditional security solutions that are signature-based and analyse software code statically are no longer a match for new cyber threats. This thesis presents advanced persistent threats and other targeted attacks and their operation, highlighting the potential consequences that may ensue. The thesis looks at various approaches which provide a dynamic inspection of internet traffic at different points in time and in different network locations. The author highlighted so-called sandbox technology, which enables an analysis of unknown files and an assessment of their threat level based on their behaviour in an emulated/virtualised environment. Since the sandbox technology is not infallible, the author also presented several evasion techniques. In addition, the work at hand includes a brief overview of commercial solutions and their comparison based on three main groups of criteria: functionality, strategy and market presence. The conclusion of the work is that a perfect and complete protection against targeted attacks can never be achieved. In order to reduce the effectiveness of advanced online threats the author proposes to provide additional funding for technology and human resources, increase awareness, and to enhance knowledge

This paper compars two media capable of transferring the ideas of the author to the audience. First is the traditional media for storytelling - a printed bookand the second is the digital media for which the author presents a case that it is a storytelling media that allows for a new and different was of presenting a story - a computer game. With provided history of computer game development and a direct comparison of Gibson\u27s novel Neuromancer and its conversion into a graphical adventure computer game, the author of the paper presents the different possibilities and limitations of each medium.V magistrskem delu avtor primerja dva medija, ki lahko prenašata zamisli avtorja ciljnemu občinstvu.

Avtorsko in sorodne pravice v Republiki Sloveniji ureja Zakon o avtorski in sorodnih pravicah. Creative achievements need to be protected and appropriately rewarded for the purpose of stimulating people to continue creating. Copyright and related rights in the Republic of Slovenia are regulated by the Copyright and Related Rights Act. The law classifies creative works, including works in the field of education, as author\u27s works. Copyright protection includes works from the fields of literature, science and art that are in any way expressed. Each author\u27s work must meet five basic criteria. These criteria are that the work must be a creation, it must be from the field of literature, science or art, it must be the result of spiritual expression, which means that it must reflect the author\u27s thoughts and feelings, it must be expressed in a way perceivable by man and must be individual. The Copyright and Related Rights Act lists an open list of cases that are most typical for copyrighted works. In the field of education, we know authorial works created by students during education and those created by teachers and professors for teaching purposes. At lower levels of education, such as primary and secondary schools, there are fewer works that show a degree of creativity to meet the basic criteria of copyright work, but universities on the other hand require students to create works for study purposes that often meet all the criteria of the author\u27s work. Typical examples of such works are graduation theses, master\u27s theses and doctoral dissertations. On the other hand, there are authorial works created by professors for teaching purposes and the most typical representative are lectures. The Copyright and Related Rights Act explicitly classifies spoken works and therefore lectures as copyrighted works. Concerning the works of professors also arise questions whether the examination questions are author\u27s works. With all works we must be careful not to artificially expand the circle of authorial works, but not to exclude them automatically. Therefore, in each individual case, it will be necessary to assess the fulfilment of the basic criteria of the author\u27s work. The Copyright and Related Rights Act provides exceptions to copyright for educational purposes. The use of copyrighted works is free for educational purposes and the author\u27s permission for use is not required. In such use it is necessary to state the source and authorship of the work, because otherwise we find ourselves in the field of copyright infringement. Copyright exceptions are about finding a balance between the author\u27s interests and social interests for information flow and access to knowledge. Copyright exceptions are permitted only to a reasonable extent and within the intended purpose and cases must be determined by law. Free use for teaching purposes allows students to use copyrighted works without having to deal with copyright. However, the Member States of the European Union do not all set the same restrictions on copyright for educational purposes as determined by Slovenian copyright law

Our victims define our borders : commemorating Yugoslav partisans in the Italo-Yugoslav borderland

First Published April 19, 2017This article is part of the special section titled From the Iron Curtain to the Schengen Area, guest edited by Wolfgang Mueller and Libora Oates-Indruchova.This article discusses local cultures of remembrance of Yugoslav partisans fallen during World War II in Trieste, now part of Italy, and investigates the role of memory activists in managing vernacular memory over time. The author analyses the interplay between memory and the production of space, something which has been neglected in other studies of memory formation. On the basis of local newspaper articles, archival material, and oral interviews, the essay examines the ideological imprint on the local cultural landscape, contributing to a more complex understanding of memory engagement. The focus is on grassroots initiatives rather than state-sponsored heritage projects. This article argues that memory initiatives are not solely the outcome of national narratives and top-down ideological impositions. It shows that official narratives have to negotiate with vernacular forms of memory engagement in the production of a local mnemonic landscape

Towards a low-cost mobile subcutaneous vein detection solution using near-infrared spectroscopy

Excessive venipunctures are both time- and resource-consuming events, which cause anxiety, pain, and distress in patients, or can lead to severe harmful injuries. We propose a low-cost mobile health solution for subcutaneous vein detection using near-infrared spectroscopy, along with an assessment of the current state of the art in this field. The first objective of this study was to get a deeper overview of the research topic, through the initial team discussions and a detailed literature review (using both academic and grey literature). The second objective, that is, identifying the commercial systems employing near-infrared spectroscopy, was conducted using the PubMed database. The goal of the third objective was to identify and evaluate (using the IEEE Xplore database) the research efforts in the field of low-cost near-infrared imaging in general, as a basis for the conceptual model of the upcoming prototype. Although the reviewed commercial devices have demonstrated usefulness and value for peripheral veins visualization, other evaluated clinical outcomes are less conclusive. Previous studies regarding low-cost near-infrared systems demonstrated the general feasibility of developing cost-effective vein detection systemshowever, their limitations are restricting their applicability to clinical practice. Finally, based on the current findings, we outline the future research direction
