Tunable Carrier Type of a Semiconducting 2D Metal–Organic Framework Cu(3)(HHTP)(2)
[Image: see text] In this work, a switch from n-type to p-type conductivity in electrodeposited Cu(3)(2,3,6,7,10,11-hexahydroxytriphenylene)(2) [Cu(3)(HHTP(2))] has been observed, which is most likely due to oxygen molecular doping. The synthesis of electrically conductive 2D metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) has been achieved through the introduction of highly conjugated organic linkers coordinated to their constituent metal-ion centers. However, the porous structure and unsaturated metal sites in MOFs make them susceptible to ambient adsorbates, which can affect their charge transport properties. This phenomenon has been experimentally investigated by GIXRD, Hall effect and Seebeck measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Transformation from honeycomb-titanium (III) oxide to Ba-Ti-O oxide quasicrystal and six-tiling approximant
Quasicrystal concept exceeds that of a regular crystal which is so familiar to scientists in the field of surface science, specifically, or solid state physics in general. Quasicrystals possess unique aperiodic structures teeming with potential novel properties as well as fundamental physics. A clear picture of structural formation regarding oxide quasicrystals is still required after their discovery. This experimental work is a successful effort of transforming the structure of honeycomb- Ti2O3 thin film to that of Ba-Ti-O oxide quasicrystal and Six-Tiling approximant. Included aspects in this thesis are the fabrication of all mentioned thin films, the analysis of their atomic structures by means of low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), the chemical composition determined by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) and the workfunction extracted from ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS).Das Konzept des Quasikristalls geht über das eines regulären Kristalls hinaus, das den Wissenschaftlern im Bereich der Oberflächenwissenschaften im Besonderen und der Festkörperphysik im Allgemeinen so vertraut ist.
Rubidium intercalation in epitaxial monolayer graphene
Alkali metal intercalation of graphene layers has been of particular interest due to potential applications in electronics, energy storage, and catalysis. Rubidium (Rb) is one of the largest alkali metals and among the least investigated as an intercalant. Here, we report a systematic investigation, with a multi-technique approach, of the phase formation of Rb under epitaxial monolayer graphene on SiC(0001). We explore a wide phase space with two control parameters: the Rb density (i.e., deposition time) and sample temperature (i.e., room and low temperature). We reveal the emergence of (2 × 2) and R30° structures formed by a single alkali metal layer intercalated between monolayer graphene and the interfacial C-rich reconstructed surface, also known as the buffer layer. Rb intercalation also results in strong n-type doping of the graphene layer. Upon progressively annealing to higher temperatures, we first reveal the diffusion of Rb atoms, which results in the enlargement of intercalated areas. As desorption sets in, intercalated regions progressively shrink and fragment. Eventually, at approximately 600 °C, the initial surface is retrieved, indicating the reversibility of the intercalation process
Growth and characterization of epitaxial gallium oxide films
The scientific key question of this thesis is to develop the growth processes of MOVPE-grown (100) β-Ga2O3 films to fulfill the requirements of vertical devices. An in-depth study has been performed to develop the process of growing µm-level thick films with excellent electrical properties in terms of wide doping range and high mobility. The potential limiting factors and the growth mechanism have been discussed in detail with proposed solutions. The investigations in this thesis can be concluded by the following:
(i) For the homoepitaxial growth by MOVPE on (100) β-Ga2O3 films up to µm-thickness-level, a certain VI/III (O2/Ga) ratio is crucial to maintaining the desired step-flow morphology as well as good electrical properties. This observation can be explained by the possible formation of a Ga adlayer on the growing surface, which largely enhances the effective diffusion length of Ga adatoms and screens the Ehrlich-Schwöbel-barrier on the step edge.
(ii) For film thicknesses above 1.5 µm, the formation of parasitic particles during the process becomes a serious issue by inducing unwanted structural defects in the film. The pre-reactions in the gas phase have been identified as the source of theses β-Ga2O3 particles. By decreasing the showerhead distance to the susceptor and increasing the mixing gas flow in the showerhead, the density of parasitic particles is significantly reduced. Applying this knowledge, for the first time, 4 µm thick MOVPE-grown (100) β-Ga2O3 film has been successfully demonstrated with high mobility of up to 160 cm2/Vs at a doping level of ~ 5 × 1016cm-3.
(iii) Besides the conventional experimental characterization, machine learning as a powerful tool for data analysis has been introduced to dig out more insights from the experimental dataset. Algorithms like Random Forest and its relatives are applied to understand the contribution of growth parameters to the desired physical properties, such as the growth rate and doping level. In addition, the physical meanings behind each growth parameter are revealed. With such a novel approach, a systematic understanding of the growth rate mechanism has been presented, and a competitive Langmuir adsorption model has been suggested to explain the doping behavior of Si-doped β-Ga2O3 films grown by MOVPE, leading to a deeper understanding of MOVPE process development.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
