    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    ABSTRAK Pendidikan karakter merupakan kata yang familiar bagi orang yang berprofesi mengajar saat ini. Guru mempunyai peranan ganda sebagai pengajar dan pendidik. Tugas utama sebagai pendidik adalah membantu mendewasakan anak secara psikologis, sosial, dan moral. Peranan guru dalam proses belajar mengajar dirasakan sangatlah besar pengaruhnya terhadap perubahan tingkah laku (karakter) anak didik. Dalam konteks pendidikan karakter, peran guru sangat vital sebagai sosok yang diidolakan, serta menjadi sumber inspirasi dan motivasi murid-muridnya. Berpijak pada paparan di atas maka fokus permasalahan yang diambil adalah 1) Apa strategi yang digunakan oleh guru akidah akhlak dalam pengembangan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? 2) Bagaimana efektifitas guru akidah akhlak dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? 3) Bagaimana dampak sosok guru akidah akhlak bagi peserta didik dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Sesuai dengan tema yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini, maka metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis kerja dan aktivitas (job and activity analysis). Dalam pengambilan sampelnya, peneliti menggunakan non-probability sampling dengan teknik purposive sampling sehingga peneliti memilih guru akidah akhlak dan siswa sebagai informan. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini diantaranya sebagai berikut. 1) Strategi yang digunakan oleh guru akidah akhlak dalam pengembangan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang, yaitu dengan memberikan mata pelajaran muatan lokal atau kepesantrenan, menciptakan siswa yang beradiwiyata, menjelaskan materi- materi pelajaran dengan contoh-contoh nyata dalam kehidupan siswa sehari-hari, dan dengan pembiasaan religius siswa, 2) Efektifitas guru akidah akhlak dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang, yaitu pembagian guru pengajar di kelas secara tepat sesuai dengan pengalaman yang dimiliki, guru mampu memperlakukan siswa sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan peserta didiknya, guru mampu menjadi teladan, pendidik, pengajar, pelatih, dan evaluator bagi peserta didiknya, 3) Dampak sosok guru akidah akhlak bagi peserta didik dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter di MTsN Tambakberas Jombang, yaitu kepribadian guru berpengaruh terhadap perilaku siswa, guru yang memotivasi siswanya akan mendorong perkembangan karakter siswa, dan sosok pemimpin guru mendorong siswa untuk lebih maju. ABSTRACT Character education is a familiar word for peoples who are have teaching profession. Teachers have a dual role that is to be a teacher and educator. The main task as educators is to make the child be mature psychologically, socially, and morally. The role of the teacher in the learning process has very big influence on behavioral changes (character) of students. In the context of character education, the teacher's role is vital as the idolized figure, as a source of inspiration and motivation of students. If we beside the above description, the focus of the problem is 1) What are the strategies used by aqeedah morals teachers to development the moral in MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? 2) How does the effectiveness of moral theology teacher in developing character education in MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? 3) How the impact of moral theology teacher figure for students in developing character education in MTsN Tambakberas Jombang? This research used a qualitative approach. According to the themes raised in this research, the method used is descriptive qualitative. Type of research that will be used is the job and activity analysis. In taking the sample, the researcher used non-probability sampling with purposive sampling technique so the researchers choose moral theology teacher and students as informants. Data collection techniques in this study research is observation, interviews, and documentation. Results of this research are the following. 1) The strategy used by the aqeedah morals teacher to developing the student’s character at MTsN Tambakberas Jombang is providing local content subjects, creating the adiwiyata students, explaining the learning materials with real examples in the daily lives of students, and by rising the religious of students, 2) Effectiveness of moral theology teacher in developing character education in MTsN Tambakberas Jombang, is devided the teachers in the class appropriate with them experience, teachers are able to treat students according to the stage of development of the students, the teacher’s moral is good example, educators, coaches, and evaluators for student, 3) the impact of moral theology teacher figure for learners in developing character education in MTsN Tambakberas Jombang is the teacher's personality affects the behavior of students, teachers motivate their students to encourage the development of student character and the figure of the teacher leaders push the students more advanced
