Caldera resurgence driven by magma viscosity contrasts
Calderas are impressive volcanic depressions commonly produced by major eruptions.
Equally impressive is the uplift of the caldera floor that may follow, dubbed caldera resurgence,
resulting from magma accumulation and accompanied by minor eruptions. Why
magma accumulates, driving resurgence instead of feeding large eruptions, is one of the least
understood processes in volcanology. Here we use thermal and experimental models to
define the conditions promoting resurgence. Thermal modelling suggests that a magma
reservoir develops a growing transition zone with relatively low viscosity contrast with
respect to any newly injected magma. Experiments show that this viscosity contrast provides
a rheological barrier, impeding the propagation through dikes of the new injected magma,
which stagnates and promotes resurgence. In explaining resurgence and its related features,
we provide the theoretical background to account for the transition from magma eruption to
accumulation, which is essential not only to develop resurgence, but also large magma
reservoirs
Does "Peer Review" assure Quality of papers and Education?
Attending seminars, Conferences, looking at "television lessons" the author saw many times many people (often Professors) that did not know the matter they were talking about; nevertheless they write papers, suggest books to students, provide lessons, make consultancy. Visiting Companies the author saw many times many Companies lacking Quality of Management, a huge problem against Quality achievement. Many people (often Professors) think that Quality in written documents is assured by the "Peer Review Process" carried out by members of "international scientific community", "distinguished colleagues, whose achievements and academic standing is well above …", and that "Quality of teaching" is assured by their "academic standing well above …". To be real Managers, Management need to grow-up their knowledge because experience alone, without theory, teaches nothing what to do to make Quality. For Higher Education Institutions, this means that professors MUST learn Quality ideas on Quality Management, in a correct and scientific way. In the paper, as already done several times, we present some other cases (out of the hundreds known to the author) where professors (and referees, as well) were acting with disquality. Would that be useful? Only God knows it
Quality Education and "quality papers"
Attending seminars, Conferences, looking at "television lessons" the author saw many times many people (often Professors) that did not know the matter they were talking about. Nevertheless they write papers, suggest books to students, provide lessons, make consultancy. Visiting Companies the author saw many times many Companies lacking Quality of Management, a huge problem against Quality achievement. To overcome this paramount drawback there is a MUST: Quality Education on Quality for Managers (particularly future Managers, now Students in Higher Education). For Higher Education Institutions, this means that professors MUST teach, in a correct and scientific way, Quality ideas on Quality. To be real Managers, Management need to grow-up their knowledge because experience alone, without theory, teaches nothing what to do to make Quality. Riemann’s Hypothesis New Proof
After some papers proving the RC (short for “Riemann’s Conjecture”, also known as the “Riemann’s Hypothesis”, RH), now the author provides a new proof, using the “Spira Criterion” that states “The RH is equivalent to the statement that if s>0.5 and t> 6.5 then |z(1-s)|> |z(s)|”. We use the concept of “transfer function” for control systems. This new proof is so simple that the author wonders why a great mathematician like Riemann did not see it; therefore F. Galetto thinks that somewhere in the purported proof there should be an error
