The aims of this study were to observe (1) the language style often used in textual appearance in literary works, (2) the figures of speech function in mediating the variables to produce the language style of Fitzgerald’s novel. The research was descriptive qualitative approach. The source of the data in this research was the novel The Great Gatsby written by Fitzgerald. The data were collected by using note-taking technique and were analyzed by listing and categorizing figures of speech based on stylistics approach proposed by Geoffrey Leech and Mick Short’s theory. The results of the research indicated that (1) this research has seven categories of figures of speech. The mostly used is simile which has 38 data, metaphor which has 4 data, personification which has 25 data, irony which has 15 data, hyperbole which has 14 data, litotes which has 6 data and the last is synecdoche which has 3 data. In those figures of speech, the researcher found that the author used animals, other living objects, inanimate objects, visible and invisible things to express human feeling, attitude, and characteristic toward something in certain situation and condition so that the readers can understand clearly the objective of the author expression. (2) The use of figures of speech in mediating the variables to produce the language style of Fitzgerald’s novel has function to increase the readers’ taste, to persuade the readers, to increase the artistic effect, to clarify idea, to influence the readers’ feeling and thinking and to emphasize idea of the author.
Design of a Servo-Controlled Variable Resistor
This study develops an innovative servo-controlled variable resistor to address the need for precise programmable resistance in modern electronics. While manual potentiometers lack automation capability and digital versions introduce quantization errors, the proposed hybrid solution combines microcontroller-driven servo mechanisms with standard rotary potentiometers, preserving analog quality with digital control. Through experimental methodology involving system design, hardware implementation, and software development, the author created and tested an electronically adjustable resistor system. Rigorous evaluation across 738 trials demonstrated exceptional performance: average standard deviation of 0.009, data range of 0.07, and coefficient of variation (CV) of 0.564%, approaching Six Sigma precision (3.4 defects per million). Statistical analysis confirmed the system's stability and repeatability, outperforming both manual adjustment (typical CV >5%) and digital alternatives. The results establish our servo-controlled design as a superior solution, offering precise programmability without compromising analog signal integrity. This advancement enables new applications in automated testing, and adaptive circuits where traditional variable resistors prove inadequate. The research contributes a reliable control mechanism for analog components while setting quantitative benchmarks for programmable resistance systems
Experimental Study: Foam Generation and Propagation in Flow Across a Permeability Contrast
Foam is useful as an enhanced oil recovery method to reduce gas mobility and prevent gravity override to improve sweep efficiency. Foam is generated in porous media when exceeding a critical velocity and pressure gradient, that usually occur near to an injection well. There is the uncertainty of foam generation in the low-pressure gradient and velocity further from the injection well. However, foam can be generated at such a permeability change with no minimum pressure gradient or superficial velocity. In field application, permeability contrasts originate from cross-bedding in fluvial sand-channel reservoirs, reservoir layering, and sharp heterogeneity changes over a few centimeters to kilometers of the formation. This study describes series of experiments with various of gas fractional flows, and injection velocities. The experiments use synthetic sintered glass porous media to create consolidated nature of porous medium with a sharp boundary between low- and high-permeability layers. The experiments are augmented by the medical X-ray computerized tomography (CT) machine, which can be used to generate dynamic images of the core flood. This study proves that capillary snap-off plays a dominant role in foam generation across a sharp heterogeneity boundary (low to high permeability) regardless of the superficial injection velocity that is applied in the system. In our experiments, as the injection velocity reduced, the magnitude of pressure fluctuations increase. Across the permeability jump, as the injection velocity reduces, the observed pressure gradient during foam generation is also higher. However, foam is difficult to propagate at very low injection velocity, in our case 0.17 ft/day (0.025 ml/min). These conditions observed at sintered glass core with permeability contrast 3.8:1 (0.17 ft/day and 80% of foam quality) and permeability contrast 14:1 (0.17 ft/day and 95% of foam quality). In terms of gas fractional flow, the CT results verify the pressure gradient profile at different gas fractional flow experiments (60%, 80\%, and 95%), foam is indeed generated at the permeability contrast and propagates downstream to the outlet of the core
MANHAJ HASBI ASH-SHIDIEQI KARYANYA DALAM BIDANG HADIS METODENYA, PEMIKIRANNYA, KRITIK ULAMA SERTA KELEBIHAN DAN KEKURANGANNYA
The purpose of the journal was made so that we could find out about Hasbi Asshiddiqhi's activities. Among Indonesian figures who were considered reformers, who put forward the importance of ijtihad in the early twentieth century. Among them is Hasbi Asshiddiqi from Aceh. Even the latter, including one who directly received education from a modern university founded by Ahmad Surkati, one of the reformers of Islam. In addition, Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy experienced the forging of renewal with his involvement in two Islamic reform organizations, namely Muhammadiyah and Persis. Activeness in these two Islamic organizations did not necessarily make Hasbi's thinking shackled and limited by the provisions and decisions of the two organizations. For the purposes of discussion, the author will systematize Hasbi's thought in the field of hadith in the following matters. First, his views on the nature of Hadith and Sunnah and their periodization. Second, the criteria for the authenticity of hadith. Third, research and maintenance of Hadith. Fourth, the methodology of understanding hadith (sharh) al-hadîth). Hadith and Sunnah and the Periodization of Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy Perspectives Regarding the understanding of hadith and sunnah, Hasbi clearly distinguishes between the two terms. Hasbi views that hadith is all events relying on the Prophet, even though the event occurred only once in the Prophet's life, and even though it was only narrated by a narrator. From here we can take the result or essence of his thought, which is very worthy of being said as a reformer in the field of hadith in Indonesia, his courage to oppose the flow or dare to be different from others is a necessity of a Hasbi Asshiddiqi
KONSEP KHITBAH (PEMINANGAN) DALAM PERSPEKTIF HADIS RASULULLAH SAW
Knowing the authenticity of hadith is indeed different from the Qur'an, because the bookkeeping of hadith was only carried out around the 3rd century Hijri. The time span is 200 years, and this is enough to provide opportunities for the possibility of diversity in hadith texts. By looking at this historical background, hadiresearch still needs to be done to fulfill the intellectual treasures of Muslims in understanding the basis of a problem through an understanding of the As-Sunnah. One of the hadiths that need to be reviewed, especially on the authentic side, is the hadith about proposals (Khitbah) in the Book of Sunan Abu Daud. Proposals in a marriage are highly recommended, but regarding the proposal process itself is very diverse, each region has a different proposal tradition, so the relevance of this hadith needs to be reviewed in order to get a more comprehensive meaning of the proposal process. For this research, the author tries to examine it by questioning several problems including what is meant by khitbah, how is the quality of the sanad and matan of the hadith and how the process of khitbah is in accordance with the sunnah or the rules of the Prophet Muhammad. The author uses the Madhu'i method. The object of this research is the prohibition of preaching on the proposal of others and the ability to look at the woman who is being preached. The results of this study explain that the quality of the hadith about the prohibition of proposing to someone else's proposal is Sahih and can be used as a hujjah (legal backing) and the quality of the hadith about the permissibility of looking at women who are preached initially is mauquf hasan but because there is a supporting hadith directly from the Prophet, the quality has increased to marfu' Sahih, because of that, the authenticity of this hadith is that it can be accepted and practiced
Foam Generation by Snap-off in Flow Across a Sharp Permeability Transition
Foam reduces gas mobility and can help improve sweep efficiency in an enhanced oil recovery process. For the latter, long-distance foam propagation is crucial. In steady gas-liquid flow, foam is generated in homogeneous porous media by exceeding a critical pressure gradient, which normally only happens near the wellbore. Away from wells, these requirements may not be met, and foam propagation is uncertain. It has been shown theoretically that foam can be generated, independent of pressure gradient, during flow across an abrupt increase in permeability. This could dominate foam generation away from wells in layered or laminated geological formations and can improve the chances of success of a foam application. The objective of this study is to validate theoretical explanations through experimental evidence and to quantify the effect of permeability contrast, velocity and fractional flow on this process. In this study, we validate theoretical predictions through a variety of experimental evidence. Coreflood experiments involving co-injection of gas and surfactant solution at field-like velocities were performed. Layered, consolidated and well-characterized sintered glass cores were used as the porous media. The permeability change in each core was analogous to sharp, small-scale heterogeneities such as laminations and cross-laminations. The experiments were carefully designed not to allow foam generation by mechanisms other than snap-off at the permeability boundary in the core. Local pressure gradient was measured at various locations and was used to identify foam generation and subsequent propagation through the porous medium. Additionally, X-ray computed tomography (CT) was employed to detect changes in phase saturation that accompany foam generation and subsequent propagation downstream. CT-based saturations measurements were also used to qualitatively chart the reduction in capillary pressure across the sharp permeability jump, supporting theoretical explanations behind this process. The effect of permeability contrast, superficial velocity and flowing gas fraction on this process was also investigated. For a given permeability contrast, foam generation was observed at higher gas fractions than predicted by previous theory (Rossen, 1999). Conditions for propagation of foam were explored by successively performing experiments at lower velocities and higher gas fractional flows. Significant fluctuations in pressure gradient accompanied the process of foam generation, indicating a degree of intermittency in the generation rate - probably reflecting cycles of foam generation, dryout, imbibition, and then generation. The intermittency of foam generation was found to increase with decreasing injection velocities and greater permeability contrasts.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Reservoir EngineeringApplied Geophysics and Petrophysic
