Effect of Mn-site doping on the magnetotransport properties of the colossal magnetoresistance compound La2/3Ca1/3Mn1-xAxO3 (A=Co, Cr; x≤0.1)

In this paper we show the effect of Mn site substitution (≤10%) by Co and Cr on the magnetotransport properties of ceramic samples of La2/3Ca1/3MnO3. Resistivity, magnetization, and magnetoresistance were systematically investigated as a function of doping. An increase in resistivity and a diminution of metal-insulator transition and Curie temperatures was observed as a consequence of both Co and Cr doping. The evolution of the number of neighbors ferromagnetically coupled to Mn was studied in each sample, and the results suggest some degree of ferromagnetic coupling between Cr3+ and Mn ions. Implications of both ferromagnetic Cr 3+-O-Mn3+ superexchange and double exchange interactions are discussed. We also found the existence of an optimum doping level that enhances colossal magnetoresistance. This has been explained considering electron localization due to magnetic disorder induced by doping in the Mn site.Fil: Rivadulla, F.. Vanesa Sotelo and Esther F. Carrodeguas are two of the most outstanding representatives of the generation of creators that appears in Galician drama scene at the beginning of the 21st century. Their respective trajectories present analogies and points of contact with other Iberian theatre systems yet to be explored. Likewise, their productions present interesting elements in common, among which the constant dramatic treatment of memory and identity stand out. In this article we will explore the approach to such themes through four of their plays: Nome: Bonita and A lúa vai encuberta by Sotelo, Voaxa and Carmín and Iribarne by Carrodeguas.Vanesa Sotelo e Esther F. Precisiones sobre la <i>estrategia</i> tropológica en ciencia

The aim of this paper is to contribute to answering the question of whether it has any sense to talk about a tropological strategy in science. To do this it is necessary to scrutinize the different relationships among models, metaphors and analogies. After expounding some strong realist doctrines, and further moderate ones as well, about the truth value of metaphors in science, I proceed to undertake some precisions connected with certain current approaches on the relationships between analogies and models, and between models and metaphors. For instance, whether analogy is the ground of modelling, or if models constitute a certain form of metaphor. From the analysis of these questions I draw some detailed conclusions that allow me to claim that it is not justified to think about the existence of a deliberate tropological strategy in science.

Oxygen vacancies in strained SrTiO3 thin films: Formation enthalpy and manipulation

We report the enthalpy of oxygen vacancy formation in thin films of electron-doped SrTiO3, under different degrees of epitaxial stress. We demonstrate that both compressive and tensile strain decrease this energy at a very similar rate and promote the formation of stable doubly ionized oxygen vacancies. Moreover, we also show that unintentional cationic vacancies introduced under typical growth conditions, produce a characteristic rotation pattern of TiO6 octahedra. The local concentration of oxygen vacancies can be modulated by an electric field with an AFM tip, changing not only the local electrical potential but also producing a nonvolatile mechanical response whose sign (up/down) can be reversed by the electric field

Literary representation of memory and consequences of the transition to democracy in post-Franco Galician society: a study of the novel O tempo en ningunha parte, by Xosé Manuel Martínez Oca

The present work is situated at the intersection between literary studies and cultural memory studies. The object of the study is O tempo en ningunha parte (2003), a Galician novel written by Xosé Manuel Martínez Oca. It was published in the context of the memory boom in Spain since the year 2000. The literary representation of memory, or "mimesis of memory", will be studied in the novel in order to understand the processes and cultural dynamics of the memory of the Spanish Civil War and Francoism in the society of 1985. O tempo en ningunha parte reflects the consequences of the politics of forgetting in the Spanish transition to democracy in the silence about the past that involves a detective plot. In addition, the novel proposes a critical interpretation of the process of democratization in Galicia and in the whole of Spain. With the use of "mimesis of memory", the author advances the memory conflicts that will take place in Spain from 2000. The author takes sides in the public debate on the interpretation and management of the recent traumatic past

    Metal-insulator transition and magnetic properties of La(1-x)Eu(x)NiO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1)

This paper reports X-ray diffraction patterns, Rietveld fit profiles, electrical resistivity dc magnetic susceptibility, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements of La(1-x)EU(x)NiO3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1). A shift to high temperature of the metal-insulator transition temperature with x and hysteresis in the electrical resistivity and magnetization versus temperature at intermediate concentration of the compound are observed. The antiferromagnetic order of the Ni sublattice can be observed after subtracting the magnetic contribution of the rare earth ions. A change in space group from R-3c to Pbnm for x ≥ 0.4 was detected, as was the appearance of magnetic order. Samples with 1% Gd3+ probe were studied by EPR. Drastic changes were observed in the shape of the lines with x, though the crystal field symmetry of the Gd sites remained constant in all the samples studied. We observed that when Eu substitution increases, the number of Gd ions that contribute to the crystal-field spectrum diminishes. A possible cause of this effect is a previously reported increase in the Ni-O covalence in the neighborhood of the Eu sites.Fil: Sanchez, Rodolfo Daniel. Universidad Nacional de Cuyo; Argentina.
