Reticulated vitreous carbon as an electrode material

No full text
An illustrated review of reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) as an electrode material is presented. Early uses of RVC were largely restricted to small-scale (<1 cm3) electroanalytical studies in research laboratories. RVC properties of a high ratio of surface area to volume and minimal reactivity over a wide range of process conditions, combined with low cost and easy handling, have resulted in a steady diversification of its applications both in research laboratories and in industry. The physical structure of RVC (in terms of pores per linear inch, strut length, strut thickness and area of the trigonal strut) is examined for 10, 30, 60 and 100 ppi (pores per linear inch) grades using scanning electron microscopy. The accurate measurement of these geometrical values presents both theoretical (in terms of definition of trigonal strut area, beginning and end of single strand) and practical problems (large differences in strut length and thickness in individual samples). Data are presented to show the relationships between geometrical properties. Applications include electroanalytical studies and sensors, metal ion removal, synthesis of organics and Fenton s reagent, H2O2 production and batteries/fuel cells

On Kato–Ponce and fractional Leibniz

No full text
We show that in the Kato–Ponce inequality Js(fg)−fJsgp ∂f∞ Js−1gp + Jsfp g∞, the Jsf term on the right-hand side can be replaced by Js−1∂f. This solves a question raised in Kato–Ponce [14]. We propose a new fractional Leibniz rule for Ds = (−Δ)s/ 2 and similar operators, generalizing the Kenig–Ponce–Vega estimate [15] to all s > 0. We also prove a family of generalized and refined Kato–Ponce type inequalities which include many commutator estimates as special cases. To showcase the sharpness of the estimates at various endpoint cases, we construct several counterexamples. In particular, we show that in the original Kato–Ponce inequality, the L∞-norm on the right-hand side cannot be replaced by the weaker BMO norm. Some divergence-free counterexamples are also included.</p

Data for the paper: Mass-Transfer Measurements At Porous 3D Pt-Ir/Ti Electrodes in a Direct Borohydride Fuel Cell

Dataset supports: Abahussain, A. A., Ponce De Leon Albarran, C., & Walsh, F. (2018). Mass-transfer measurements at porous 3D Pt-Ir/Ti electrodes in a direct borohydride fuel cell. Journal of the Electrochemical Society. Chronoamperometry data at different mean linear flow velocities for the oxidation of sodium borohydride is presented. The data of the limiting currents vs. mean linear velocity plots were obtained from the chronoamperometriy experiments. The file also contains data of enhancement factor and electrode performance in terms of the mass transfer coefficient, kmAe, for the oxidation of borohydride ions. Last data for figure 8 represents the effect of electrode structure on performance.</span

Replication Data for: Explaining the Allocation of Legislative Specialization

No full text
This article explains why there is important variation in the degree of concentration of legislative specialization across legislative parties. Greater concentration of legislative specialization leads parties to concentrate their legislative efforts on a smaller set of policy jurisdictions. Through enhancing their concentration of legislative specialization in certain policy areas, parties might more clearly signal their policy concerns and interests to voters. This study argues and shows that party size alters the concentration of legislative specialization. In particular, I find that a U-shaped curve defines the relationship between party size and the degree of concentration of legislative specialization: niche parties and the largest parties choose higher levels of concentration of legislative specialization

ANÍBAL PONCE, HUMANISMO Y REVOLUCIÓN

No full text
In the present article the author analyzes the theoretical and philosophical thinking of the Argentinean Anibal Norberto Ponce, one of the founders, along with the Peruvian José Carlos Mariátegui, the Cuban Julio Antonio Mella and the Chilean Luis Emilio Recabarren, of Latin American Marxism. Its central argument tries to understand the cultural specificity of Ponce's Marxism by linking it and differentiating it at the same time from his teacher, the famous José Ingenieros. For this, the notable influence of both of the Bolshevik revolution stands out, but it broadens Ponce's Marxism beyond the first impact of Lenin and his companions. In this sense, the work highlights the anti-imperialist vein and the fundamentally humanist character from which Ponce interprets Marx, converging with dialectical Marxism and Western European humanism (for example the young Lukács and Antonio Gramsci). The investigation culminates in highlighting the indelible mark of the thought of Aníbal Ponce in the revolutionary Marxism of Ernesto Che Guevara (who read and studied it in his youth together with his friend Tita Infante).En el presente artículo el autor analiza el pensamiento teórico y filosófico del argentino Aníbal Norberto Ponce, uno de los fundadores, junto con el peruano José Carlos Mariátegui, el cubano Julio Antonio Mella y el chileno Luis Emilio Recabarren, del marxismo latinoamericano.

A characterization of the multivariate excess wealth ordering

No full text
In this paper, some new properties of the upper-corrected orthant of a random vector are proved. The univariate right-spread or excess wealth function, introduced by Fernández-Ponce et al. (1996), is extended to multivariate random vectors, and some properties of this multivariate function are studied. Later, this function was used to define the excess wealth ordering by Shaked and Shanthikumar (1998) and Fernández-Ponce et al. (1998). The multivariate excess wealth function enable us to define a new stochastic comparison which is weaker than the multivariate dispersion orderings. Also, some properties relating the multivariate excess wealth order with stochastic dependence are describe
