Determining paths of innovation: The role of culture on the adoption on organic farming management
The aim of this paper is to understand whether national culture is linked with operative performance of organic agriculture. The ultimate goal is, indeed, to measure the impact of social change on technical innovation and sustainability issues. We built an econometric model where the impact of some of the six dimensions of national culture by Geert Hofstede is tested on inputs and outputs of organic production, on a country-based scale. We collected data about the evolution of organic agriculture through the last two decades, extracting data about 27 countries of the European Union from 2000 to 2017. We tested the dataset into two passages: we first employed a DEA model to assess efficiency of organic farming, and then we correlated results to Hofstede 6-D model of national culture. We observed the existence of a relationship between culture and innovation, explaining the importance of determined values in people's management within the firm. The operative performance of organic agriculture is linked to determined culturally influenced business values. We used efficiency results as variables for measuring innovation approach based on cultural models. It has been enhanced the relevance to the nexus innovation-culture approaching to one of the most innovation-resistant industrial sectors
Manta birostris

Manta birostris — Caribbean Manta (Manta Ray)

Justification: Many visual records, and listed as "occasional" by Clavijo et al. (1980:5).

Distribution: Circumtropical, Marshall et al. (2009) WA (BD, FL, GOM, BA, GOM, GA, VI, LA, WC, nSA, sSA), EA, IWP, EP.

Remarks: Marshall et al. (2009) present data and color photographs indicating that a second previously unrecognized and putative new Manta species occurs in and appears to be endemic to the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean. In some areas of the northern Atlantic, including the Bahamas, it occurs together with the circumtropical Manta birostris (Walbaum) but only the "new" species apparently occurs around islands of the Lesser Antilles. Images of mantas from St. Croix look like typical M. birostris. Additional research is required to clarify the taxonomic status of the variant Manta sp. and better determine its ecology and precise distribution. If this manta proves to be a distinct species, the name Manta giorna Lesueur 1824 will probably be used for it.
Published as part of Smith-Vaniz, William F. & Jelks, Howard L., 2014, Marine and inland fishes of St. Croix, U. Familiar worldwide: how PDO products reflect quality in consumers' appraisal and behaviour
Purpose The present study focuses on the role of PDO certification in fostering the quality perception of certified-food consumers - highlighting the difference between quality brands and environmental labels. The case study of Mozzarella di Gioia del Colle DOP was taken into consideration to evaluate the opportunity of supporting a food product suitable for all families and promoting it worldwide through a quality certification. Design/methodology/approach The authors made a qualitative analysis on local Apulian consumers and, for testing our hypotheses, structural equation models were applied to evaluate the effect of familiarity on the relationships between perceived risk, trust, satisfaction, loyalty, resolution to pay a higher price and intent to purchase a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certified food product. Findings The authors observed managerial implications which seek to improve the collaborative network between the subjects employed in the phases of the production process, the stakeholders and the consortia, in order to plan a holistic development territorial strategy. It is useful to start a process of knowledge and evaluation of the benefits of the quality mark in the territory of origin of the PDO food product. Research limitations/implications The authors provided theoretical and managerial implications which aim at improving the collaborative network between the subjects employed in the phases of the production process, stakeholders and consortia, in the outlook of territorial development strategies. Originality/value According to the analysis of the theoretical background, the opportunity to recognise the origin of a certain product allows the consumer to easily appreciate its intrinsic quality, relating a combination of factors to the territorial matching. It also focuses on the analysis of a different feedback at a local level from consumers, showing a lower intention to pay by consumers living in the same area where the PDO product comes from rather than other food goods

Showcasing green: how culture influences sustainable behavior in food eco-labeling
Purpose: The aim of this study is to verify, through Hofstede's 6-D model, the impact of national culture on the implementation of eco-labeling activities on the supplier side, in order to provide consumers information about the sustainable behavior adopted by firms. Design/methodology/approach: The authors tested the impact of culture dimensions through an econometric model, on a sample composed by several countries of the world, in which at least a food certification is in force. Findings: Interesting results have been obtained and discussed, proving the existence of a relationship between culture and corporate sustainability showcasing. Cultural heritage has a deep influence on sustainable consumption demand. Firms need to put more effort to showcase their green behavior. Economic indicators have a role in fostering sustainable behavior. Originality/value: Food labeling is little explored, despite its growing importance for consumers. This research is a window in green marketing issues, specifically in global branding strategies
