How to manage a partial detachment of the ureter during robotic radical prostatectomy?

    No full text
The management of a ureteral orifice injury occurring during robotic radical prostatectomy (RARP) represents a challenge for urologists. Several techniques have been proposed to treat an intraoperative injury, but intraoperative positioning of a DJ stent represents the most common treatment in cases of a partial injury of the ureteral orifice. We present a technique to ensure the successful outcome in cases of a partial detachment of the ureter during RARP. When the orifice is identified after the incision of the bladder neck and it appears very close to the anastomosis line setting up a partial detachment of the ureter, before implanting a DJ stent, one tip could be to perform a small incision of the anterior wall of the orifice to spatulate it and then proceeding to a short slip of the ureter: the eversion of the mucosa - thus creating a sort of "folded shirt cuff"- allows the fixation of the ureter to the bladder wall. We successfully performed this technique in two cases of RARP

SATELLITE AND UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE DATA FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF SAND DUNE VEGETATION

    No full text
Within coastal systems, sand dunes are the only natural barriers able to counteract erosive processes. Since their equilibrium is often threatened by human activities and high vulnerability of the coastal environment, dunes require increasing attention and specific monitoring. Located between the mainland and the sea, dunes are unique residue habitats for some plant and animal species. In particular, their vegetation is important because it has a consolidation function and promotes the vertical dune accretion. A georeferenced vegetation classification can be useful to define the advancements or erosion stage of the dune, usually based only on the geometric reconstruction. The proposed study aims to compare the classifications performed with some combinations of two of the last generation sensors and traditional image processing techniques. High spectral resolution satellite image (WorldView-2) and a multispectral orthophoto, obtained from data acquired by an unmanned aerial vehicle, were used. Objects and pixel algorithms were applied and the results were compared by a statistical test. Using the same bands, the findings show that both data are suitable for monitoring the evolutionary dune status. Specifically, the WorldView-2 pixel-based classification and UAV object-based classification provide the same accurate results

Comparison of pixel- and object-based classification methods of unmanned aerial vehicle data applied to coastal dune vegetation communities: Casal borsetti case study

Coastal dunes provide the hinterland with natural protection from marine dynamics. The specialized plant species that constitute dune vegetation communities are descriptive of the dune evolution status, which in turn reveals the ongoing coastal dynamics. The aims of this paper were to demonstrate the applicability of a low-cost unmanned aerial system for the classification of dune vegetation, in order to determine the level of detail achievable for the identification of vegetation communities and define the best-performing classification method for the dune environment according to pixel-based and object-based approaches. These goals were pursued by studying the north-Adriatic coastal dunes of Casal Borsetti (Ravenna, Italy). Four classification algorithms were applied to three-band orthoimages (red, green, and near-infrared). All classification maps were validated through ground truthing, and comparisons were performed for the three statistical methods, based on the k coeffcient and on correctly and incorrectly classified pixel proportions of two maps. All classifications recognized the five vegetation classes considered, and high spatial resolution maps were produced (0.15 m). For both pixel-based and object-based methods, the support vector machine algorithm demonstrated a better accuracy for class recognition. The comparison revealed that an object approach is the better technique, although the required level of detail determines the final decision

We demonstrated that a complete left ureteral substitution with appendix is a feasible and safe technique. To our knowledge, this is the first case of a successful complete substitution of the left ureter with vermicular appendix in an adult patient reported in the literature

    TOI-4438 b: a transiting mini-Neptune amenable to atmospheric characterization

    No full text
We report the confirmation and mass determination of a mini-Neptune transiting the M3.5 V star TOI-4438 (G 182-34) every 7.44 days. A transit signal was detected with NASA’s TESS space mission in the sectors 40, 52, and 53. In order to validate the planet TOI-4438 b and to determine the system properties, we combined TESS data with high-precision radial velocity measurements from the CARMENES spectrograph, spanning almost one year, and ground-based transit photometry. We found that TOI-4438 b has a radius of R b = 2.52 ± 0.13 R ⊕ (5% precision), which together with a mass of M b = 5.4 ± 1.1 M ⊕ (20% precision), results in a bulk density of ρ b = 1.85 −0.44 +0.51 g cm −3 (~28% precision), aligning the discovery with a volatile-rich planet. Our interior structure retrieval with a pure water envelope yields aminimum water mass fraction of 46% (1 σ ). TOI-4438 b is a volatile-rich mini-Neptune with likely H/He mixed with molecules, such as water, CO 2 , and CH 4 . The primary star has a J -band magnitude of 9.7, and the planet has a high transmission spectroscopy metric (TSM) of 136 ± 13. Taking into account the relatively warm equilibrium temperature of T eq = 435 ± 15 K, and the low activity level of its host star, TOI-4438 b is one of the most promising mini-Neptunes around an M dwarf for transmission spectroscopy studies

SIK SIK – NOSTALGIA ZA TRADYCJĄ CZY PARODIA SACRUM W TEATRZE

The author refers to the modern stage recitation technique offering a new typology of characters: Sik-Sik, or the magro-mago, the thin magus in a black top hat, with a white face, dressed in black, who establishes direct contact with the audience using voice modulation, mimics, pantomime and other recitation elements. Sik-Sik becomes a model for other prominent figures of the Italian drama, such as Pirandello or Fo.Sik Sik l’artefice mago viene inserito dal suo autore nelle Cantate dei giorni pari.

Poprzedzona wstępem krytyczna edycja ulotnych druków odnoszących się do przedstawień dwóch zespołów włoskich komediantów dell’arte w latach 1748–1749 i 1754 w Warszawie. Complemented by an introductory essay, this critical edition gathers ephemeral prints relating to the performances by two troupes of Italian dell'arte comedians who visited Warsaw in 1748–49 and 1754. Based at the Saxon court in Dresden, the troupes accompanied the Polish King Augustus III during his stays in Warsaw, performing at the court theater. The prints are programs – and at the same time scripts – of twelve comedies from 1748–49 and five from 1754. The most valuable document is Polish program/script of the play Prostak oszukujący franta (Il goffo ingana il furbo), staged in 1754, as it lists the cast, including D’Arbes, one of the most famous Italian actors, who performed all over Europe. The original prints from the Załuski Collection in the National Library were burnt alongside other documents of Polish cultural history by the German occupation authorities during World War II. The publication contains their faithful copies, made by the author before the war. The author discusses the importance of these documents for research on the performances of Italian troupes at European courts and the beginnings of professional theater in Poland

    A puffy polar planet

TOI-640 b is a hot, puffy Jupiter with a mass of 0.57 ± 0.02 MJ and radius of 1.72 ± 0.05 RJ, orbiting a slightly evolved F-type star with a separation of 6.33−0.06+0.07 R⋆. Through spectroscopic in-transit observations made with the HARPS spectrograph, we measured the Rossiter-McLaughlin effect, analysing both in-transit radial velocities and the distortion of the stellar spectral lines. From these observations, we find the host star to have a projected obliquity of λ = 184 ± 3°. From the TESS light curve, we measured the stellar rotation period, allowing us to determine the stellar inclination, i⋆ = 23−2+3°, meaning we are viewing the star pole-on. Combining this with the orbital inclination allowed us to calculate the host star obliquity, ψ = 104 ± 2°. TOI-640 b joins a group of planets orbiting over stellar poles within the range 80°–125°. The origin of this orbital configuration is not well understood

GJ 367b Is a Dark, Hot, Airless Sub-Earth

We present the mid-infrared (5-12 micron) phase curve of GJ 367b observed by the Mid-Infrared Instrument on the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). GJ 367b is a hot (T_eq = 1370 K), extremely dense (10.2 +/- 1.3 g cm^{-3}) sub-Earth orbiting an M dwarf on a 0.32 day orbit. We measure an eclipse depth of 79 +/- 4 ppm, a nightside planet-to-star flux ratio of 4 +/- 8 ppm, and a relative phase amplitude of 0.97 +/- 0.10, all fully consistent with a zero-albedo planet with no heat recirculation. Such a scenario is also consistent with the phase offset of 11°E +/- 5° to within 2.2-sigma. The emission spectrum is likewise consistent with a blackbody with no heat redistribution and a low albedo of A_B ~ 0.1, with the exception of one anomalous wavelength bin that we attribute to unexplained systematics. The emission spectrum puts few constraints on the surface composition but rules out a CO2 atmosphere ~>1 bar, an outgassed atmosphere ~>10 mbar (under heavily reducing conditions), or an outgassed atmosphere ~>0.01 mbar (under heavily oxidizing conditions). The lack of day-night heat recirculation implies that 1 bar atmospheres are ruled out for a wide range of compositions, while 0.1 bar atmospheres are consistent with the data. Taken together with the fact that most of the dayside should be molten, our JWST observations suggest that the planet must have lost the vast majority of its initial inventory of volatiles
