No full textTale contributo illustra - e riporta nella dimensione del libro - una riflessione che si è svolta primariamente in forma di installazione nel Padiglione Italiano della 11. Mostra internazionale di Architettura della Biennale di Venezia (14 settembre – 23 novembre 2008), in quanto elemento della mostra “L’Italia cerca casa / Housing Italy” di cui Lupano è stato co-curatore insieme a F. Garofalo nonché responsabile del concept espositivo. Tale installazione costituisce un ragionamento svolto attraverso il medium dell’atlante, e rivendica una scrittura che si confronta con le insidie delle associazioni visuali e delle risonanze che tali associazioni possono innescare. In questo caso l’atlante accosta forme e visioni, reperti di una cultura progettuale che in Italia, tra il 1930 e 1980, si è dedicata ai temi dell'abitare e della casa collettiva. L'atlante si fonda su una ossessiva attenzione alla forza delle immagini e dispiega i materiali con l’intenzione di rendere palese la complessità di un pensiero figurato. Lavora nella logica della frammentazione del passato e apre alla sua ricomposizione creativa. Gli spunti sottintesi alle relazioni fra le icone non necessariamente sono assimilabili alla struttura e al percorso logico di un saggio, rappresentano ipotesi, tracce.
Tale contributo è stato scelto perché rappresenta una forma di scrittura sperimentale che ridiscutere le modalità attraverso le quali si manifesta il lavoro storiografico quando si confronta con le urgenze della cultura progettuale contemporanea
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. On the modelling of time-interleaved sequential lamination micromixers
No full textWe develop a novel and simple theoretical model of time-interleaved sequential lamination micromixers that improves the model proposed by Nguyen and coworkers (Microfluid Nanofluid 1:373-375, 2005a, Lab Chip 5:1320-1326, b, J Phys Conf Ser 34:136-141, 2006) based on the Taylor-Aris dispersion theory. The Nguyen model takes into account the non uniform structure of the velocity profile through an effective dispersion coefficient. However, it is essentially a one-dimensional model that is not suitable to describe (i) neither the behavior of mixing occurring at short length-scales, and characterized by the growth of a mixing boundary layer near the channel walls, (ii) nor the exponential decay of the concentration field occurring at larger length-scales. The model we propose, which is based upon the theory of imaginary potential developed by Giona et al. (J Fluid Mech 513:221-237, 2004, Europhys Lett 83:34001, 2008, J Fluid Mech 639:291-341, 2009a), is able to provide quantitative predictions on the evolution of the L (2)-norm of the concentration fields as function of the axial coordinate xi, both for short and asymptotic lengthscales. The quantitative comparison with respect to the Nguyen model is illustrated and discussed. Finally, the coupling between parallel lamination and sequential segmentation is analyzed, and leads to unexpected and apparently counter-intuitive findings
