CK-Equilibria and Informational Efficiency in a Competitive Economy

    No full text
We consider a very simple competitive economy with infinitesimal agents and asymmetric information. We define a Common Knowledge (CK hereafter) Equilibrium as a price distribution compatible with CK of market clearing and rationality. At equilibrium, expectational mistakes and incorrect information revelation by price are possible. But, whenever unique, the CK equilibrium is a fully revealing Rational Expectations Equilibrium. Hence uniqueness of equilibrium means market informational efficiency. We give different conditions of uniqueness of equilibrium bearing on the information structure. The first ones emphasize that many informed agents are required for market efficiency. Agents need not be perfectly informed, but each "piece" of information has to be known by a large enough proportion of the population. The main result is a characterization of the information structures allowing for local uniqueness: multiplicity of equilibria obtains when all the agents have to extract information from the price to obtain information about the same event. We show that this result holds in an exchange economy with finitely many goods and generic preferences. Finally, we provide a simple market game in which the CK-equilibria obtain through infinitely repeated elimination of weakly dominated strategies.

Hippocampal activation for autobiographical memories over the entire lifetime in healthy aged subjects: An fMRI study

    No full text
International audienceWe used functional magnetic resonance imaging to determine the cerebral structures required during the recollection of episodic autobiographical memories according to 5 time periods covering the whole lifespan to test the 2 concurring models of memory consolidation, which propose either a temporary (standard model) or a permanent (multiple-trace model) role of the hippocampus in episodic memory retrieval. The experimental paradigm was specially designed to engage subjects (67.17 +/- 5.22 years old) in the retrieval of episodic autobiographical memories, whatever the time period, from personally relevant cues selected by questioning a family member. Moreover, the nature of the memories was checked at debriefing by means of behavioral measures to control the degree of episodicity. Behavioral data showed that recollected memories were characterized by specificity and details whatever their remoteness. Main neuroimaging data (Statistical Parametric Mapping 99) revealed the activation of a network including the left superior frontal gyri, bilateral precuneus/posterior cingulate and lingual gyri, left angular gyrus, and left hippocampus, although the subtraction analyses detected subtle differences between certain time periods. Small volume correction centered on the hippocampus detected left hippocampal activation for all time periods and additional right hippocampal activation for the intermediate periods. Further confirmation was provided by using a 3-way analysis of variance on blood oxygen level-dependent values, which revealed hippocampal activation whatever the time interval. The present data challenge the standard model of memory consolidation and support the multiple-trace model, instead. The comparison with previous literature stresses the idea that a bilateral involvement of the hippocampus characterizes rich episodic autobiographical memory recollection

Low Temperature Oxidation of pure Iron : Growth kinetics and scale Morphologies

    No full text
Isothermal oxidation of pure iron has been performed in air at atmospheric pressure between 260°C and 500°C. Growth kinetics are accurately analysed and scale morphologies are investigated by SEM and TEM observations. The calculation of the variations of the parabolic rate constant kp with scale thickness allows a better understanding of scale growth mechanisms involved at this intermediate temperature range, which have been poorly investigated up to now. These results are discussed with the objective of long term behaviour for long term interim storage of some nuclear waste containers

Numerical Model for Oxide Scale Growth with Explicit Treatment of Vacancy Fluxes

    No full text
In the framework of research on behaviour of nuclear waste containers, to evaluate the effects of possible evolution of experimental conditions, as well as evolution of parameters controlling oxidation rate during long-term interim storage, a numerical model has been developed in order to take into account non-stationary states. To anticipate effects like cold working of the metal on the scale growth kinetics and risks of scale detachment by over saturation of vacancies at the metal/oxide interface in the course of scale growth, the model is based on the calculation of chemical species, but also vacancies profiles evolution in the oxide and the metal following a simple time integration. An original numerical treatment is proposed to easily describe elimination of vacancies by introducing sink strength in the metal. The first calculations are presented and discussed

Solid state fermentation for the production of lipolytic fungal enzymes

    No full text
The production of lypolitic moulds in solid state fermentation was studied. Aspergillus oryzae and Rhizopus oryzae were grown on rice hulls using different media. Tween 80 and olive oil were employed as main carbon sources; the whole solid cultures were lyophilised and employed in heptane for catalysing the formation of various geranyl esters with molar conversions ranging from 40 to 95%, under optimised conditions, starting from 50 mM geraniol and equimolar amount of the acid
