All-electron magnetic response with pseudopotentials: NMR chemical shifts
A theory for the ab initio calculation of all-electron NMR chemical shifts in insulators using pseudopotentials is presented. It is formulated for both finite and infinitely periodic systems and is based on an extension to the projector augmented-wave approach of Blochl [P. E. Blochl, Phys. Rev. B 50, 17 953 (1994)] and the method of Mauri et al. [F. Mauri, B. G. Pfrommer, and S. G. Louie, Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 5300 (1996)]. The theory is successfully validated for molecules by comparison with a selection of quantum chemical results, and in periodic systems by comparison with plane-wave all-electron results for diamond

Wannier and Bloch orbital computation of the nonlinear susceptibility
We present a method to compute high-order derivatives of the total energy of a periodic solid with respect to a uniform electric field. We apply the 2n + 1 theorem to a recently introduced total energy functional which uses a Wannier representation for the electronic orbitals and we find an expression for the static nonlinear susceptibility which is much simpler than the one obtained by standard perturbative expansions. We show that the zero-field expression of the nonlinear susceptibility can be rewritten in a Bloch representation. We test numerically the validity of our approach with a 1D model Hamiltonian

It is widely accepted that glycosphingolipids (GSLs) at the level of the plasma membrane can affect the biological functions of protein molecules, such as cell surface receptors or transporters. The interactions between GSLs and proteins belonging to specific membrane microdomains, called lipid rafts, could be responsible for the modulation of the functional properties of membrane proteins participating in signal transduction. GSL-protein interactions can be investigated by cell photolabelling experiments using radioactive photoactivable GSLs, which yield, when illuminated, a very reactive intermediate that covalently binds to the molecules in the environment, i.e. proteins.1,2
In this context, we have designed a fatty acid probe with two nitrophenylazide photoactivable groups, one at position 2 and the other at the end of the acyl chain. The conjugation of the fatty acid to a radioactive sphingoglycolipid generates a species to be used for photolabelling experiments. In this way, the simultaneous identification of the proteins belonging to both the leaflets of the plasma membrane, the cytoplasmatic and the extracellular one, will be realized.
Herein we describe a general synthetic strategy to obtain not commercially available α,ω-diamino acids, the synthetic precursors of the labelled fatty acids, which we have applied to the synthesis of a C-18 derivative. Furthermore, it will be described the preparation of a photolabelled radioactive GSL as a case study.

Qui sont les Dii mauri ?
The author reviews the various but rare interpretations of the divine collectivity referred to by the name of Dii Mauri. From a re-examination of the literary or epigraphic mentions of the 50 specifically African local or regional divinities, and of the 20 dedications to the Dii Mauri known to this day, he believes he can propose the relationship, even the identity, between the local gods and the Dii Mauri. The comparison between the authors of the dedications shows that the worship of the local gods principally concerned « civilians » (82,5 %), whereas the Dii Mauri were invoked by governors, imperial procurators, soldiers (81,25 %). Moreover the Dii Mauri are invoked as often in Numidia and in Africa as in Caesarian Mauretania (they are unknown in Tingitana). Therefore the term of "maurus" is not linked to the Roman administrative carving, it applies to what is rebellious to Latin culture, to what is specifically native and unassimilable. Dii Mauri and African gods are the same divinities, only the dedicators change. The author reviews the various but rare interpretations of the divine collectivity referred to by the name of Dii Mauri. Analisi dell'applicazione del modello basso rischio ostetrico (BRO) in Italia
OBJECT:
Analysis on the application of the low obstetric risk model in the hospitals of S. Maria della Misericordia in Perugia and Sant'Anna in Turin.
PROJECT:
Data was collected prospectively to analyze the Italian experience of the midwife-led birth model in the alongside midwifery units. In particular, the analysis focuses on the low obstetric risk and aims to be both qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative, in comparing the managerial/organizational hierarchy of the model, the responsables for screening women and the evaluation grids that have been used; quantitative as it draws an analogy between the outcomes of the Italian models with the English model of the Birthplace in England research program. Two environments with similar organizational models have been put in comparison: the Birth Center of Sant'Anna Hospital in Turin and the Hospital S. Maria della Misericordia in Perugia.
RESULTS:
In terms of managerial/organizational hierarchy, the two Italian show substantial differences, especially with regard to the professional profiles involved in screening. In particular, Perugia’s hospital still involves the gynecologist in the evaluation to admit women to the program, despite scientific evidence and the Professional Profile of the midwife confirm that the latter is the most suitable to recognize and diagnose the physiological pregnancy and to assist low-risk women during labor, delivery and post-partum.
Furthermore, the comparison between evaluation grids for the screening of women shows that some exclusion criteria are not shared, for this reason grids that can be shared by all the birth centers are needed to make the outcomes more comparable.
Finally, from a quantitative point of view, we can say that the outcomes of the Italian analysis exactly overlap with the English ones of the Birthplace in England research program
Ga self-interstitials in GaN investigated by ab-initio calculations of the electronic g-tensor
In GaN, an exceptionally important role is played by Ga-interstitials being mobile at room temperature: Despite rather large formation energy, they have been observed in irradiated uurtzite-GaN: at least two similar, but clearly distict ODEPR-signals L5 and L6/L6* have been identified (via exceptionally large, nearly isotropic hyperfine splittings of about 4 GHz) as interstitial Ga-i(2+) in two diffent lattice configurations. However, judging from experimental data and total energy calculations alone, the exact microscopic configuration remains unclear. In this theoretical work, the situation is elucidated by ab-initio calculating the complete set of EPR parameters, hyperfine splittings as well as g-tensors, for the stable structural configurations of the Ga-interstitial using a gauge-including projector augmented plane wave (GI-PAW) approach.
