Dimer-dimer stacking interactions are important for nucleic acid binding by the archaeal chromatin protein Alba
Archaea use a variety of small basic proteins to package their DNA. One of the most widespread and highly conserved is the Alba (Sso10b) protein. Alba interacts with both DNA and RNA in vitro, and we show in the present study that it binds more tightly to dsDNA (double-stranded DNA) than to either ssDNA (single-stranded DNA) or RNA. The Alba protein is dimeric in solution, and forms distinct ordered complexes with DNA that have been visualized by electron microscopy studies; these studies suggest that, on binding dsDNA, the protein forms extended helical protein fibres. An end-to-end association of consecutive Alba dimers is suggested by the presence of a dimer-dimer interface in crystal structures of Alba from several species, and by the strong conservation of the interface residues, centred on Are and Phe(60). In the present study we map perturbation of the polypeptide backbone of Alba upon binding to DNA and RNA by NMR, and demonstrate the central role of Phe(60) in forming the dimer dimer interface. Site-directed spin labelling and pulsed ESR are used to confirm that an end-to-end, dimer dimer interaction forms in the presence of dsDNA.Peer reviewe

The Author/Translator Interactional Process. A Case Study
See Naples and Kill (1988) is a lively and colourful novel by the con-temporary English writer, Gregory Dowling, translated into Italian in 2015.
Following the tradition of translation studies (Venuti 2000, Bass-nett 2002, Cronin 2006), this paper analyses the rewriting process of literary translation, considering in particular the fruitful but sometimes tense and even conflictual relationship between writer and translator.
The translation of the novel See Naples and Kill was an ongoing rewriting process entailing a constant dialogue between the writer and the translator. Therefore, the study aims at answering two main ques-tions: what happens if the rewriting process of translation is constant-ly questioned by the author? What happens if the author has a good mastery of the target language and s/he is her/himself a translator?
By exploring the relationship between translation and re-creation, the research focuses on the differences and similarities between the primary creation (source text) and the secondary creation (target text), and aims to verify in which way the dialogic encounter of two different personalities and cultures does not make them merge but, by retaining their own uniqueness, leads eventually to their mutually en-riching each other. A comparative analysis of the source text and the different drafts of the translated version accompanied by the author’s comments will shed light on the tense author-translator relationship in the specific case under investigation and how both actors handle this tension in order to create a new work resulting from the (dis)agreement of the two parties

Seed ca 6 mm long, ellipsoid, reddish, with fleshy aril (Saint-Hilaire 1825). Distribution and habitat Hornschuchia alba is endemic to Rio de Janeiro State. It is known from only two municipalities, Armação de Búzios and Cabo Frio, occurring in seasonal semideciduous lowland forest (Mello-Silva et al. 2021; Fig. 1). Phenology Flowering from February to October, fruiting from September to October. Preliminary conservation status Critically Endangered, CR B1ab(i,ii,iii) (Amaro 2016). At the time of the last revision of the genus (Johnson & Murray 1995), only two historical collections of H. alba, including the type, were available. The species was only known with certainty from Cabo Frio. Nowadays there are eight localities, in Armação de Búzios and Cabo Frio, where the species is known to occur. However, H. alba has not been collected in 18 years. Notes Johnson & Murray (1995) indicated the holotype as Saint-Hilaire 99. However, this collection number has been assigned to a species of Amaranthaceae Juss. The holotype of Bocagea alba is in fact Saint-Hilaire 366 (Saint-Hilaire’s field notebooks are available at http://hvsh.cria.org.br/works). There are only immature fruits available (Farney 3930 and 4487), the fruit and seed descriptions have been complemented with the information in Saint-Hilaire (1825). With the new collections of H. alba, the description of the species has been updated (Johnson & Murray 1995) with new information about the habit and plant size, inflorescence position and flower dimension. Hornschuchia alba has a single-flowered inflorescence, supra-axillary, terminal or leaf-opposed. It is similar to the specimens of H. myrtillus with this type of inflorescence. However, H. alba is different from H. myrtillus in the leaves that are narrowly ovate to ovate or lanceolate (vs narrowly elliptic to elliptic, oblanceolate to narrowly oblong, obovate or rarely lanceolate) and the pedicel 1–7 mm long (vs 10–28 mm long).Published as part of Vilela, Lucas & Lopes, Jenifer De Carvalho, 2022, Hornschuchia (Annonaceae), an endemic and threatened genus from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, pp. 75-108 in European Journal of Taxonomy 828 on pages 79-80, DOI: 10.5852/ejt.2022.828.1859, http://zenodo.org/record/682376
Reduction of Setup Times in a Metal Fabrication Company Using a Lean-Sigma Approach
Manufacturing companies face demand fluctuations and must deliver the required quantity of parts to their customers within the required time; however, companies face different challenges in fulfilling them. One is technological advances, which make it impossible for them to compete with other countries, such as China, due to financial issues. Therefore, manufacturing companies use continuous improvement methodologies to achieve better performance in their processes. Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing are some of the best-known approaches. This article briefly presents the application of a lean sigma approach oriented to solving problems. This research proposes a methodology based on Lean Sigma that contrasts what different authors currently do: continuous improvement projects that take up to 12 months to produce results and do not solve a problem. This implementation is conducted in a process that manufactures metal parts and fails to deliver them on time to its customers. Using tools such as the Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) in a production line, on-time deliveries were increased from 89 % to 96 %; at the same time, the model change times were reduced by approximately 60 %, which is required for the implementation of this methodology for only four weeks, unlike the traditional six-sigma approach that can take up to 12 months to improve the process
The dissertation research the Bolivarian Movement, headed by Venezuela, as a new hegemonic project, still under construction, at Latin America and the Caribbean. This hegemonic project is discursively constructed in opposition to the historic Pan American hegemony, led by the U.S. In this way, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) is approached as an international organization that seeks to align the Latin American countries and societies behind the Bolivarian Movment. The ALBA generates new ways of sense-making, as well as new norms of international relations. The research analyzes the speeches at the ALBA's presidential summits, using the Ernesto Laclau's Discourse Theory, and identifying the three steps proposed by this author to the hegemonic construction: Firstly, the establishment of an antagonism against U.S. imperialism and the dicotomization of the hemispheric social space, through the definition of a boundary between the powerful country and the rest of continental community (Latina America and the Caribe). Secondly, the contingent articulation of a variety of social demands, which dissatisfaction are ascribed to the U.S. imperialism. Thirdly, the formation of a new popular field, through the positive expression on a new identity of this unified set of demands, in this case the Bolivarian identity. The dissertation concludes that the Bolivarian movement manages a new logic of sense-making, and therefore places the hegemonic struggle in a new structural field. However, it also identified some problems on this task, particularly in the difficulty to construct a Bolivarian identity shared by various social unities (countries, societies and social sectors)
