Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Ancak son yılların popüler ürünlerinden olan ısıl işlem görmüş ağaç malzemeler için de aynı üst yüzey malzemeleri kullanılmaktadır. Isıl işlem malzemenin kimyasal yapısında dolayısıyla fiziksel yapısında ve yüzey özelliklerinde değişimlere neden olmaktadır. Bu nedenle geleneksel üst yüzey malzemelerinin ısıl işlem görmüş malzemedeki performansı farklı olacaktır. Bu amaçla bu çalışmada ısıl işlem görmüş ağaç malzemede, yüzey hazırlık işleminin ve vernik türünün, vernik yapışma direnci üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Thermowood yöntemi ile ısıl işlem görmüş Dişbudak (Fraxinusm excelsiorL.), Sarıçam (Pinus sylvestris) ve İroko (Chlorophoraexcelsa) örnekleri ve kontrol örneklerinin; zımparalanmış ve rendelenmiş yüzeylerine; solvent bazlı vernik, silikonlu vernik, poliüretan vernik ve su bazlı vernik uygulanmış ve vernik yapışma direnci değerleri belirlenmiştir. Yüzey pürüzlülüğünün ve vernik türünün vernik yapışma direncine etkileri ortaya konmuştur. Örneklerin hava kurusu yoğunluk (TS 2472), rutubet miktarları (TS 2471),yüzey pürüzlülüğü (ISO 4287,TS 971, TS 6959), vernik katman kalınlığı (ASTM. D-1005), vernik yapışma direnci (ASTM D 4541) değerleri belirlenmiştir. Isıl işlem görmüş ve kontrol örneklerinin tümünde zımparalanmış ve rendelenmiş yüzeylerin ortalama pürüzlülüğü farklı çıkmıştır. Kullanılan verniklerden poliüretan verniğin katman kalınlığı (110 µm) diğerlerinden oldukça fazladır. Diğer üç verniğin katman kalınlığı 50-65 µm aralığındadır. En yüksek vernik yapışma direnci, her üç ağaç malzeme türünde de hem ısıl işlem görmüş hem de kontrol örneklerinde poliüretan vernikte tespit edilmiştir. Sarıçam, iroko ve dişbudakta en yüksek yapışma direnci değerleri sırasıyla 4,98 N/mm2, 5,88 N/mm2, 6,61 N/mm2 olarak, kontrol grubu rendelenmiş yüzeyde, poliüretan vernikte tespit edilmiştir.En düşük vernik yapışma direnci sarıçamda ısıl işlem görmüş rendelenmiş yüzeydeki su bazlı vernikte (1,59 N/mm2), irokoda kontrol grubu zımparalanmış yüzeydeki su bazlı vernikte (3,08 N/mm2), dişbudakta ise kontrol grubu zımparalı yüzey silikonlu vernikte (2,86 N/mm2) tespit edilmiştir.Bu sonuçlar ışığında, dış ortamda kullanılacak ısıl işlem görmüş ağaç malzemede üst yüzey malzemesi olarak vernik yapışma direnci açısından, poliüretan verniğin kullanılması tercih edilmelidir.Many researches have been conducted on wood varnishes. But the same varnishes which are produced for untreated wood are used for heat treated wood, which is a popular material in recent years, too. Heat treatment causes changes on chemical properties of wood and consequently on physical and surface properties of wood. Because of this, performance of these traditional varnishes can be different on the heat treated substrate. In this study, effects of surface machining and varnish types on the adhesion of varnishes on the heat treated wood were investigated. Planed and sanded heat treated ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.), scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and iroko (Chlorophora excelsa) wood surfaces were coated by using solvent base, waterborne, silicon-containing and polyurethane varnishes. Air dry density (TS 2472), moisture of content (TS 2471), surface roughness (ISO 4287, TS 971, TS 929, TS 6959), dry film thickness (ASTM. D-1005), and adhesion of varnish (ASTM D 4541) values of samples were determined. The surface roughness values of the sanded surfaces were lower than the roughness of planed surface. Dry film thickness of the polyurethane varnish (110 µm) was the thickest. Dry film thicknesses of the other varnishes were 50-65 µm. The highest adhesion was determined in samples coated with polyurethane varnish for all the heat treated and untreated wood. The highest adhesion valueswere 4,98 N/mm2, 5,88 N/mm2, 6,61 N/mm2 in untreated, planed and coated with polyurethane varnish scots pine, iroko and ash, respectively. The lowest value was determined in samples heat treated, planed and varnished with waterborne varnish in scots pine (1,59 N/mm2); in samples untreated, sanded and coated with waterborne varnish in iroko (3,08 N/mm2); in samples untreated, sanded and coated with silicon-containing varnish in ash (2,86 N/mm2). According to the results it is recommended that the polyurethane varnish should be preferred in heat treated wood for exterior conditions

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
