Synthesis, characterization and reactivity of tetracyclopentadienylniobium(IV), a precursor to organometallic derivatives of niobium(IV)
In toluene as medium, tetra(cyclopentadienyl)niobium(IV), NbCp4, has been prepared in satisfactory yields from the reaction
of NaCp with: (a) Nb2C110, (b) NbCl4(THF)2, or (c) NbCp2Cl2. Tetracyclopentadienylniobium(IV) has been characterized by
X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: C20H20Nb, M=353.29 g mol−1, hexagonal, space group P65 (no. 170), a=b=9.396(2),
c=31.23(3) A , V=2388(2) A 3, Z=6, dcalc=1.48 g cm−3, (Cu–K)=1.54184 A , T=291 K, =62.04 cm−1, F(000)=1686.
Two of the four cyclopentadienyl ligands are bonded to niobium in a pentahapto fashion, the other two being monohapto. NbCp4
undergoes cyclopentadiene elimination in the presence of species containing active protons such as Ph3SiOH or strong acids, the
products being tris- or biscyclopentadienyl compounds depending on the molar ratio of the reagents

Gender separation increases somatic growth in females but does not affect lifespan in Nothobranchius furzeri.
According to life history theory, physiological and ecological traits and parameters influence an individual's life history and thus, ultimately, its lifespan. Mating and reproduction are costly activities, and in a variety of model organisms, a negative correlation of longevity and reproductive effort has been demonstrated. We are employing the annual killifish Nothobranchius furzeri as a vertebrate model for ageing. N. furzeri is the vertebrate displaying the shortest known lifespan in captivity with particular strains living only three to four months under optimal laboratory conditions. The animals show explosive growth, early sexual maturation and age-dependent physiological and behavioural decline. Here, we have used N. furzeri to investigate a potential reproduction-longevity trade-off in both sexes by means of gender separation. Though female reproductive effort and offspring investment were significantly reduced after separation, as investigated by analysis of clutch size, eggs in the ovaries and ovary mass, the energetic surplus was not reallocated towards somatic maintenance. In fact, a significant extension of lifespan could not be observed in either sex. This is despite the fact that separated females, but not males, grew significantly larger and heavier than the respective controls. Therefore, it remains elusive whether lifespan of an annual species evolved in periodically vanishing habitats can be prolonged on the cost of reproduction at all
TETRAHYDROFURAN AND 1,2-DIMETHOXYETHANE DERIVATIVES OF VANADIUM(II) AND VANADIUM(III)
The vanadium(II) derivatives [V-2(mu-Cl)(3)(THF)(6)](2)[M(2)Cl(6)] (M = Mn, Fe) have been prepared by reduction of VCl3(THF)(3) with manganese or iron metal powders in THF and structurally characterized for M = Mn. [V-2(mu-Cl)(3)(THF)(6)](2)[Mn2Cl6] crystallizes in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar (No. 2) with a = 10.867(6), b = 11.626(8), c = 15.486(6) Angstrom, alpha = 75.70(4), beta = 71.25(4), gamma = 80.29(5)degrees, V = 1787(2) Angstrom(3), Z = 1. The structure contains discrete [V-2(mu-Cl)(3)(THF)(6)](+) cations and [Mn2Cl6](2-) anions, the anion consisting of two MnCl4 tetrahedra sharing an edge. By treatment of VCl3(THF)(3) with DME the new vanadium(III) coordination compound VCl3(DME)(THF) has been obtained which crystallizes in the space group Pnma (No. 62) with unit cell dimensions a = 14.193(8), b = 11.99(1), c = 7.92(1) Angstrom, V = 1347(2) Angstrom(3), Z = 4. VCl3(DME)(THF) shows a fac-stereochemistry of the ligands in a distorted octahedral coordination around the vanadium atom. The same compound has been obtained by reaction of VCl3(DME)(1.5) with a stoicheiometric amount of THF in toluene
The preparation and structures of group 12 (Zn, Cd, Hg) complexes of the soft tripodal ligand hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate (Tm)
Complexes of the hydrotris(methimazolyl)borate ligand (Tm) have been prepared with zinc, cadmium and mercury halides. Complexes of type [M(Tm)X] were obtained and characterised by NMR and mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallographic analysis of [Zn(Tm)X] (X = Cl, Br, I) reveals a symmetrical coordination mode of the ligand, but no significant change with different halides, which sit on the approximate C-3 axes of the complexes, The structures of [M(Tm)Br] (M = Cd, Hg) are isomorphous with one another, Again, the ligand is symmetrically coordinated to the metal, but the halide is now significantly displaced from the approximate C-3 axis of the M(Tm) unit, resulting in what approximates to a trigonal pyramidal geometry. Unlike in most distorted mercury structures, little bond length expansion (towards two- or three-coordinate geometries) occurs. This is ascribed to the strong affinity of the thione donors for Hg
Synthesis and Structural Characterization of Iron(II) Derivatives of Heterocyclic Tridentate Amines
Compounds of general formula FeX 2(L) {L=2,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazolyl)pyridine, C 15H 17N 5; bis[3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazolyl)methyl]-isopropylamine, C 15H 25N 5; bis(benzimidazol-2-yl-methyl)amine, C 16H 15N 5, 1,3-bis(benzimidazolyl)propane, C 17H 16N 4; bis(benzimidazolyl-2-methyl)ether, C 16H 14N 4O; bis(benzimidazolyl-2-methyl)thioether, C 16H 14N 4S} have been synthesized by reacting the amine with Fe 4Cl 8(THF) 6 or FeI 2(CO) 4 in toluene. The complexes FeCl 2(C 15H 17N 5)·MeCN and FeCl 2(C 16H 15N 5)(MeOH) have been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction together with the parent triamines, C 15H 17N 5 and C 16H 15N 5, for comparison. The reaction of FeI 2(CO) 4 with bis(benzimidazolyl-2-methyl)thioether, C 16H 14N 4S, led to the product of partial carbonyl substitution FeI 2(CO) 2(C 16H 14N 4S)
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
