Phylogenetic Position of Hungarian Grey Cattle Breed Based on Total-Representation Sample
The Hungarian Grey (HG) cattle breed was almost extinct after WW2; only 200 cows and six bulls survived. Despite the historical significance of the HG, no comprehensive genomic analysis has been conducted to clarify its genetic diversity and evolutionary history. Previous studies have relied on random or limited pedigree sampling, lacking a fully representative dataset determining genetic and conservation status. Here, the founder sampling of 110 individuals and the analysis of their mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variation aim to investigate the phylogenetic placement of the breed using, for the first time, a fully representative sample. All identified haplogroups belong to the taurine T macro-haplogroup, with a predominance of T3 (89.1%), followed by T2 (4.5%), T1 (3.6%), and T1′2′3 (2.7%). The phylogenetic analysis confirms the absence of ancient haplogroups derived from European aurochs, suggesting a purely taurine origin for the HG breed. The high haplotype diversity (Hd = 0.94) and the genetic similarity to other Podolian breeds, particularly Maremmana cattle, indicate a preserved genetic background despite centuries of selective breeding. The lack of intensive crossbreeding practices has maintained the original beef production purpose of the breed, distinguishing it from the crossbred Podolian cattle used for dual-purpose or dairy production

Ezért vizsgálom a Hortobágyon található állományban:
- az ellések számának alakulását
- a két ellés között eltelt időt
- a 205 napos korra korrigált súlyt, amellyel közvetve a borjúnevelő képességre lehet
Departing from what Hayden White has called the "tropologies" of historical discourses, or underlying narrative structures, in this article the author examines the trope of rejection of normative and conceptual histories. By rejecting a philosophical conception of history, those of Hegel, Ranke, Burckhardt and Dilthey provided the nineteenth century with various new models that are still in use today, and which draw on the idea of community, Lebenswelt, and context. These models also tend to focus on the particular, as opposed to the formation of general laws. This type of history may be found in a few examples of nineteenth-century German musicology and in some histories of contemporary music by revealing the transition from "axiological" histories (which developed strong criteria of elimination and a tendency to restrict the canon) to the views of the contextualists, a gravitational point for the skeptical and anti-philosophical views of our time. The former are committed to the definition of the art work; the latter are bent on overturning any such ideas
’L’invisible et l’inaudible’ : aspects de la performativité chez Celan et Leibowitz
As a written poem is read aloud or performed in a musical setting, how might the transition from a visible to an audible materiality alter its meaning and its way of generating meaning? What impact does this change have on the relation between semantics and sound structure? How might the particular vocalization of the speaking or singing individual affect the interpretations of the text? The present paper approaches such questions through two late poems by Paul Celan. The po- ems are followed from their written existence on the page through a recorded reading by the author and, finally, into a musical setting by René Leibowitz. Not only do these texts explicitly thematize their own suspension between writtenness and orality, but they also enact the sensory disappearance and threatening collapse of their own language. Spoken and sung, moreover, the poems are subjected to the risks of misrepresentation and misinterpretation inherent in any performance, with concrete and crucial effects on their meaning as a result.</p
VATEM2 - Optometric Animal Measurement System
SUMMARY
Background: 15 years ago the VATEM video based optometric system was created for the
body measurement of populations kept extensively. Since then with the VATEM1 software
we have measured 10 thousand animals (cattle, buffalos, sheep, horses, dogs) in seven
countries. We would like to introduce a safe, fast, inexpensive and effective method which
might become one of the new tools of optometric 2D multidata phenotyping.
Objectives: We would like to show how the VATEM system works, and we would like to
introduce the VATEM2 software (vatem.univet.hu) through the body measurement of the
2-year-old Hungarian Grey bulls bred in Sarród, sold at the 2016 bull fair. The description of
the VAM field work (making the video footages) and the operation of the VAM2 software.
Materials and Methods: In 2016 11 2-year-old breeding bulls were admitted to the cata logue of the Association of Hungarian Grey Cattle Breeders (MSzTE), and we have measured
the body parameters of these animals. The first step of the VATEM method is the field work, during which we make video footages of the walking animals. The cameras making
the footages from above and from the side are placed as far away as possible, in order to
reduce perspective distortion. The animals are identified using ear tag ID screens. Before
recording the animals, we record the standards, too. In the software phase from the foot ages we select standard images showing a standard posture. After that we specify the
body parameters to be measured in schemes, and with the help of the standard image we
define the pixel-centimetre ratio. By marking the anatomic points we perform optometric
measurements, and on the standard images we create the measurement frames, where
the real-life parameters are also inscribed. The sizes can be saved in an Excel spreadsheet.
During the measurements the video footages were made at an average 100 animal/hour
speed, while the software measurement frame is created in 8 minutes.
Results and Discussion: Today genotyping is developing at a breakneck speed, however
phenotyping is developing quite slowly. With the VATEM method, which is a safe and fast
way of generating a big amount of phenotypic data on appearance, we intend to counter
the above imbalance, as such an imbalance can hinder scientific advances. This is because
genetics can only become really effective with the help of a big amount of phenotypic data
on appearance and breeding, and by examining the animal as a whole. In the future the
VATEM2 program will serve a simple and free tool for phenotyping, and it will be capable of
processing a bigger amount of data, thereby somewhat accelerating the process of phe notyping. However, phenotyping also needs completely new methods, such as geometric
morphometrics and real time 3D animal models
Telomere Length and Telomerase Activity of Granulosa Cells and Follicular Fluid in Women Undergoing In Vitro Fertilization
This study aimed to evaluate the interrelationship between telomere length, telomerase activity and oxidative DNA damage in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). This single-center, observational clinical study comprised 102 unselected, consecutive patients with various infertility diagnoses. Granulosa cells (GCs) and follicular fluid (FF) were analyzed simultaneously for telomere functions and for the marker of oxidative DNA damage, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG). An Absolute Human Telomere Lengths Quantification qPCR Assay kit and Telomerase Activity Quantification qPCR Assay kit (Nucleotestbio, Budapest, Hungary), as well as an 8-OHdG ELISA kit (Abbexa Ltd., Cambridge, United Kingdom) were used for analyses. Similar telomere lengths were found in GCs and FF, however telomerase activity was markedly depressed, while 8-OHdG levels were markedly elevated in FF compared with those in GCs (p < 0.01). Telomere lengths were independent of telomerase activity both in GCs and FF. However, GC 8-OHdG was inversely related to telomerase activity in GCs and FF (p < 0.05). Importantly, 8-OHdG levels both in GCs and FF had significant negative impact on the number of the retrieved and MII oocytes (p < 0.01), whereas FF 8-OHdG was negatively related further to the number of fertilized oocytes and blastocysts (p < 0.01). In conclusion, we could not confirm the direct association of telomere function and reproductive potential. However, oxidative DNA damage, as mainly reflected by 8-OHdG, adversely affected early markers of IVF outcome and clinical pregnancies
