Part II. Drama / Choreography5. Theater Dance Atelier
The substance of the spiritual and cultural life is the syncretism of the arts from the performer-spectator division, that was made concurrently with the “dance” segmentation into work and pleasure. Words were held in formulas, gestures and dance in rhythm. Today, dance is mostly seen as the art of gesture. However, it is remarkable to reflect at to what extent the dance, as an organic necessity, it could further develop into hermetic structures that would still require analyses and studies from researchers in the field. In today‟s theatrical landscape, this formula of artistic expression which was called theatre dance evolved so much so that gesticulations and body exploration became its core components
Book Review. Art Therapy across Cultural and Race Boundaries: Working with Identity. By Lorette Dye
There is very little in Art Therapy that tackles the difficulties of working cross-culturally and with issues of race; in this respect this book is to be welcomed. It is a practical book rather than a theoretical one, and as such, is the first of its kind in this subject area that I know of. The author, Lorette Dye, clearly has a wealth of experience working with people who come from different cultural groups than her own, mainly in various countries in Africa, and in the USA, and the lessons she has learnt from this form the first section.
A study of classroom teachers' perceptions of the services provided by reading resource personnel, 1984
The purpose of this study was to identify the reading resource teachers' duties perceived by elementary classroom teachers in Area I of the Atlanta Public Schools as being most significant in relationship to the types of assistance they would like to receive. This study investigated the following research questions: (1) What functions of the reading specialist are considered to be prime? (2) What functions of the reading specialist are considered to be secondary? (3) What functions of the reading specialist are seen as minor considerations? (4) Are classroom teachers' perceptions of the duties of the reading resource teacher related to the years of experience? Method A descriptive survey method was used in this study. The data were collected from a modified verson of an opinion- naire developed by Dr. Richard A. Thompson, College of Education, University of Central Florida at Orlando, Florida. The opinionnaire contained twenty activities related to the functions of a reading resource teacher. The rating scale for each activity contained three designations: (1) Agree, (2) Disagree, and (3) No opinion. The data were analyzed and the frequency with which the response 'Agree' was chosen for each item determined its placement in one of the three following categories: Prime Functions (_> 85% agree); Secondary Functions (49% agree); and Minor Teacher Considerations (<50% agree). Findings The items from the opinionnaire themselves fell under three headings: (1) Direct Instructional Assistance, (2) Inservice Training Assistance, and (3) Administrative Duties. Under the title, 'Direct Instructional Assistance,' prime functions were item 3, help teachers with interpretation of test scores (87.4% agreed); item 14, assist teachers in providing for poor readers (96.1% agreed); item 15, assist teachers in providing for advanced readers (91.2% agreed); and item 13, make suggestions to help reading teachers improve their procedures (94.1% agreed). Secondary functions contained the following activities: item 1, assist teachers in administering standardized and informal diagnostic instruments (62.7% agreed); item 10, provide on-the-job help with teaching of reading skills (83.3% agreed); and item 11, assist teachers in developing classroom reading centers (78.6% agreed). 'Minor Teacher Considerations' contained item 18, be available to teachers for parent conferences (37.6% agreed). Under the title, 'Inservice Training Assistance,' there were no items that fell under prime functions. Secondary func-tions yielded the following activities: item 7, help teachers coordinate management of a reading skills system so that each teacher will know the precise skill needs of each student (79.4% agreed); item 16, help teachers determine the reading difficulty levels of textbooks and resource materials (71.8% agreed); and item 20, initiate opportunities for group problemsharing sessions (80.4% agreed). There were no items that fell under 'Minor Teacher Considerations.' Under the title 'Administrative Duties,' there were no items that fell under the categories of Prime Functions and Minor Teacher Considerations. The items listed under Secondary Functions are as follows: item 17, provide consulting services to parents concerning special testing services and test interpretation (71.8% agreed); and item 9, acquaint teachers with university programs and courses available for educational development (71.3% agreed). Conclusions The writer concludes from this study that because of the high percentage of responses that fell under primary or secondary functions as they pertain to direct instructional assistance and inservice assistance, a positive attitude toward working with the reading resource teacher does exist. There were several items that novice, experienced and veteran teachers were in agreement on unanimously. There was no one item whose significance was unique to any one group of teachers. Regardless to the years of experience, all teachers had a need for all items. Implications The implications derived from the conclusions are as fol1ows: 1. All classroom teachers, regardless of the years of experience, have a need for the majority of the reading resource teacher's services. 2. In relationship to years of experience, novice teachers have more of a need for a specific reading resource teacher's expertise than do experienced and veteran teachers. 3. Teachers have a positive attitude toward working with the reading resource teacher. 4. The reading resource teacher can provide a multitude of valuable services for the teacher. Recommendations The findings, conclusions, and implications warrant the following recommendations: 1. Each school should assess its faculty at the end of the school year and compile a list as to what services they feel are needed from the reading resource teacher for the succeeding year. 2. In preparing for inservice sessions, the expressed specific needs of teachers should be taken into considerat ion
Inequality in the public basic education system: the role of the South African courts in effecting radical transformation
Thesis (LLD)--University of Pretoria, 2020.The purpose of this thesis is to critically evaluate the South African courts’ role in contributing
to the radical transformation of public basic education which is mandated by the South African
Constitution. The author observes that deeply rooted patterns of racial and class inequality, that
developed over a span of four centuries of colonial and apartheid rule, are reproduced in the
post-apartheid public basic education system. This disparity manifests as unequal access to
quality basic education for the majority of black and poor learners in the post-1994
dispensation. It is contended that the substantive-based approach to the right to basic education
by the High courts and Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has led to some transformative change
in public education. However, this approach is only half the battle won because it does not
address the engrained patterns of systemic inequality perpetuated by school governing bodies
(SGBs) of former white/Model C schools. In this regard, it is argued that governing bodies of
former Model C schools manipulate the autonomous legislative powers awarded to SGBs with
the purpose of retaining their inherited privilege(s). Whenever the state has challenged these
schools’ utilisation of their policy-making autonomy, the school governing bodies have had
recourse to the courts. As a result, a contentious relationship between SGBs of former white
schools and provincial education departments has developed in the sphere of public schooling.
Apart from contextualising the historical and contemporary inequality in basic education as
well as analysing the transformative potential of the substantive-based approach of the High
courts and SCA, this thesis focuses on the Constitutional Court’s resolution of the acrimonious
disputes between the government and former white schools. The author notes with concern the
development of an approach by South Africa’s apex Court rooted in the notion of “meaningful
engagement”. The application of meaningful engagement entails that the Court does not
resolve the dispute before it, but requires of the SGBs and the state to engage with each other
and settle the matter. The Court has classified meaningful engagement as the required
procedure through which all education disputes must be resolved. In this regard, the author
argues that the Constitutional Court’s perfunctory application of meaningful engagement has
hampered the Court’s ability to deal effectively with the underlying “hard” issue of structural
inequality which permeates the education system. Accordingly, the study concludes that the
meaningful engagement approach threatens the radical transformation of the public basic
education system.National Research Foundation (NRF)JurisprudenceLLDUnrestricte
A new technique for the surgical treatment of the rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee in dog
After a brief historical survey of the evolution of the surgical techniques conceming the rupture of the cruciate ligaments of the knee and a short anatomical recalling, the author makes a study of the kinetics of this joint and of the articular etiopathogeny. In the light of this knowledge, the author describes a new technique: the principle consists in a complete stabilization of the knee joint with the help of a synthetic monowire restoring mechanicaHy the cruciate ligaments. It concems an intracapsular technique calling upon tunneling of the femoral condyles and of the head of tibia. Great care is given conceming the description of boring of the tunnels, the setting of the prothesis and the stabilization of the joint
In the course of a detailed genealogical research centred on the Jobin families from Portneuf and L’Ancienne-Lorette, the author dedicated a portion of her study to sculptor Louis Jobin, his origins and his family. This article tells the story of how her research in the United States finally uncovered the marriage certificate of this well-known person, a document which most thought would never be found. After verifying the scholarly work of her predecessors, the author conducted her investigation in search of the smallest details. She interviewed Jobin’s heirs and consulted many original documents

However, previous studies examining SA context have produced mixed results regarding its impact on wellness, particularly when examining the effect of survivor-perpetrator relationships and perpetrator sex. Using data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS), this study examined the effect of perpetrator relationships (former partner, current partner, stranger, relative, friend) and SA characteristics (SA type, survivor sex, perpetrator sex) on general health (GH), mental health (MH), physical health (PH), health-related quality of life (HRQL), and missed days of work (MDW) among sexual assault survivors (N =1,477). A path analysis revealed several direct and indirect pathways. More severe SA was directly and indirectly associated with worse GH, MH, PH, and MDW. Male perpetrator sex resulted in worse MH and PH (direct effect) and worse HRQL (indirect effect) while female perpetrator sex was directly associated with worse HRQL. Being a male survivor was indirectly associated with worse HRQL and MDW. Results of this study suggest that survivor-perpetrator relationships and SA characteristics matter for understanding survivor’s wellness. Future studies and interventions that acknowledge SA context may be useful for bolstering survivor recovery and effective treatment planning
Onset Detection through Maximal Redundancy Detection
We propose a criterion, called ‘maximal redundancy’, for onset detection in time series. The concept redundancy is adopted from information theory and indicates how well a signal locally can be explained by an underlying model. It is shown that a local maximum in the redundancy is a good indicator for an onset. It is proven that ‘maximal redundancy’ detection is a statistical asymptotically optimal detector for AR processes. It also accounts for potentially non-Gaussian time series and non-Gaussian innovations in the AR processes. Several applications are shown where the new criterion has been successfully applied.sponsorship: This work was supported by the Institute for the Promotion of Innovation through Science and Technology in Flanders (IWT Vlaanderen).
