Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
William Stanley Jevons: Precursor del pensamiento económico neoconservador
No full textThe following essay has the objective of demonstrating that neoconservative (neoliberal) economic thought was not born with the ideas that the supply theorists, rational expectations, monetarists or followers of the new conservative public finances proposed in economic matters. Neoconservative economics had in W.S. Jevons to one of his most important precursors. This statement is based on three reasons: His study method, his contributions in the field of his theory of exchange, relative prices and his theory of work. It is concluded that the economic discourse proposed by W.S. Jevons contributed decisively to the development and consolidation of a type of economic thought that privileges the use of formal analysis and that adapts to the modern way of doing business in the capitalist world.El siguiente ensayo tiene el objetivo de demostrar que el pensamiento económico neoconservador (neoliberal) no nació con las ideas que en materia econó- mica porponían los teóricos de la oferta, las expectativas racionales, los monetaristas o los seguidores de la nueva hacienda pública conservadora. La economía neoconservadora tuvo en W.S. Jevons a uno de sus precursores más importantes. Esta afirmación se sustenta en tres razones: Su método de estudio, sus aportaciones en el campo de su teoría del intercambio, los precios relativos y su teoría del trabajo. Se concluye, que el discurso económico propuesto por W.S. Jevons contribuyó de manera decisiva al desarrollo y consolidación de un tipo de pensamiento económico que privilegia el uso del análisis formal y que se adapta a la forma moderna de hacer negocios en el mundo capitalista.
 
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textEn el presente trabajo se hace una primera aproximación al estudio de las representaciones sociales y los discursos sobre la descentralización administrativa en Venezuela realizada por actores significativos en el contexto político venezolano en los últimos diez años. Se parte de la premisa que concibe que la descentralización administrativa en Venezuela se construye en el marco de las relaciones y la trama de poder de actores globales, nacionales y locales, que a su vez incide en las agendas, las acciones y decisiones que realizan esos actores. Se concluye que en Venezuela, se está tratando de imponer una visión de la descentralización administrativa más acorde con la idea de desconcentración que tiende a apuntalar esquemas superados de centralización administrativa en Venezuela

No full textDiverse causes and explanations have been given for the Venezuelan financial crisis of 1994. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate, from the point of view of public policy analysis, how bank financial aid policy, bank intervention, and/or the liquidation of banking institutions between 1994 and 1995, which responded to the desire to protect private individual and corporate savings, reflected deficient handling in economic terms, and only reflected the conflict between political and economic elements. The preeminence of political elements over technical ones deepened the crisis even more and demonstrated that the ex perience accumulated in previous crisis was of little help in dominating the crisis in Venezuelan payment systems. We conclude that the system of bank supervision and control, together with the Venezuelan banking structure deserve severe institutional readjustment.
En la crisis financiera que sufrió Venezuela en 1994, se han esgrimido diversas causas y explicaciones. La finalidad de este ensayo se centra en demostrar, desde el punto de vista del análisis de las políticas públicas, cómo la política de auxilios financieros, intervención y/o liquidación de instituciones bancarias entre 1994 y 1995, si bien respondían al deseo de proteger los ahorros del público y las empresas, su manejo deficiente, en términos económicos, no hizo sino reflejar los conflictos entre los niveles de decisión técnica y política. La preeminencia de los elementos de carácter político sobre los de carácter técnico, ahondó más aún la crisis y demostraron que la experiencia acumulada en crisis anteriores de poco o nada sirvieron para dominar la crisis en el sistema de pagos venezolano. Se concluye, que el sistema de vigilancia y control bancario junto a la estructura del sistema bancario venezolano ameritan un severo reajuste institucional.
