Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Analysis of teachers' views on distance education applied in the Covid-19 process (Example of Mardin province)
No full textCOVID-19 salgınının yayıldığı dönemde 188 ülkede okullara ara verilmiştir. Bunun sonucunda yaklaşık 1.7 milyar öğrencinin (yaklaşık %88) eğitimleri kesintiye uğramış, doğrudan veya dolaylı olarak salgından etkilenmiştir (OECD, 2020a). Bu araştırmada, öğretmenlerin COVID-19 sürecinde uygulanan uzaktan eğitime ilişkin görüşlerinin analiz edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın evreni, 2020-2021 eğitim-öğretim yılında Mardin iline bağlı eğitim kurumlarında görev yapan 13.058 öğretmendir. Araştırmanın örneklemi, nicel boyut için tesadüfi örneklemle belirlenen 420 öğretmen ve nitel boyut için amaçlı örneklemeyle belirlenen 20 öğretmenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma karma yöntem modelindedir. Araştırmanın nicel boyutu betimsel tarama modelinde, nitel boyutu ise olgu bilim deseni (fenomenoloji) modelindedir. Araştırmanın verileri, araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen ölçek ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Nicel verilerin SPSS 26.0 programı ile analiz sonuçlarına göre, ölçeğin 23 madde ve 5 boyuttan oluştuğu tespit edilmiştir. Ölçeğin faktör analizinde, Temel Bileşenler Analizi ve Varimax döndürme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin boyutları; "Uzaktan eğitimin genel özellikleri", "Uzaktan eğitimdeki araçlar", "Canlı derslere katılım için gereksinimler", "Canlı derslere karşı öğrenci tutumları" ve "Canlı derslere karşı öğretmen tutumları" olarak isimlendirilmiştir. Ölçek toplam varyansın %54.61'ini açıklamakta, KMO katsayısı 0.828, Barlett's Testi anlamlılık değeri 0.000 ve Cronbach-Alpha iç tutarlılık katsayısı 0.845 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre, uzaktan eğitime ilişkin öğretmen görüşlerini değerlendirmeyi hedefleyen ölçeğin geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu ortaya konulmuştur. Alt problemlerin analizinde ortalama, yüzde, frekans, t-testi, ANOVA gibi istatistiksel teknikler kullanılmıştır. Analiz sonuçlarına göre öğretmenler tarafından; uzaktan eğitimde Web portalının etkili olduğu (X=2.68), uzaktan eğitim için kurulan TV kanallarının ise çok etkili olmadığı (X=2.07), uzaktan eğitimin mekân özgürlüğü avantajı sağladığı (X=3.40) ancak eğitimde fırsat eşitliğini sağlamadığı (X=1.69), uzaktan eğitimde eğitim yöneticilerinin beklentilerinin yüksek olduğu (X=3.76) düşüncelerinin hâkim olduğu görülmüştür. Öğretmenlerin görüşleri ile cinsiyet değişkeni arasında istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir fark bulunmamışken, diğer değişkenlerde istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur. Nitel verilerin MAXQDA programıyla içerik analizinin sonuçlarına göre; "Avantaj", "Sınırlılık", "Teknoloji", "Beklenti" ve "Dezavantaj" olarak isimlendirilen temalar elde edilmiştir. Nitel verilerde öğretmenlerin yanıtlarından belirgin olarak; uzaktan eğitimin tamamlayıcı etkisinin önemi vurgulanırken, uzaktan eğitim için gerekli olan donanım ve uzaktan eğitime katılım yetersizliğini ise olumsuz görüş olarak değerlendirdikleri görülmüştür.During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were Decoupled in 188 countries. As a result, about 1.7 billion students (about 88%) had their education interrupted and were directly or indirectly affected by the epidemic (OECD, 2020a). In this research, it is aimed to analyze the views of teachers on distance education applied in the COVID-19 process. The universe of the research is 13.058 teachers working in educational institutions affiliated to Mardin province in the 2020-2021 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 420 teachers determined by random sampling for the quantitative dimension and 20 teachers determined by purposeful sampling for the qualitative dimension. The research is based on the mixed method model. The quantitative dimension of the research is in the descriptive screening model and the qualitative dimension is in the phenomenon science pattern (phenomenology) model. The data of the study were collected using a scale developed by the researcher and a semi-structured interview form. According to the results of the analysis of quantitative data with the SPSS 26.0 program, it has been determined that the scale consists of 23 items and 5 dimensions. In the factor analysis of the scale, Basic Components Analysis and Varimax rotation method were used. The dimensions of the scale were named as "General characteristics of distance education", "Tools in distance education", "Requirements for participation in live lessons", "Student attitudes towards live lessons" and "Teacher attitudes towards live lessons". The scale explains 54.61% of the total variance, the KMO coefficient was calculated as 0.828, the Barlett's Test significance value was 0.000 and the Cronbach-Alpha internal consistency coefficient was calculated as 0.845. According to the results of the analysis, it has been revealed that the scale, which aims to evaluate the opinions of teachers about distance education, is a valid and reliable measurement tool. Statistical techniques such as mean, percentage, frequency, t-test, ANOVA were used in the analysis of the sub-problems. According to the results of the analysis by the teachers; it has been seen that the Web portal is effective in distance education (X=2.68), the TV channels established for distance education are not very effective (X=2.07), distance education provides the advantage of freedom of space (X=3.40) but does not provide equality of opportunity in education (X=1.69), the thoughts that educational administrators have high expectations in distance education prevail (X=3.76). While there was no statistically significant difference between the opinions of teachers and the gender variable, statistically significant differences were found in other variables. Dec.
