Introducing the Randstad: A polycentric metropolis
The Randstad and polycentric regions generally are not only vehicles to create critical economic mass. The geography of the Randstad is unmistakably deltaic, with expanses of flat open land crisscrossed by watercourses and historic windmills that remain from a former network of more than 10,000. The development of extensive physical and soft infrastructure has since the seventeenth century gone hand in hand with the growth of the economy and international trade. In 2017 the Randstad was the fourth largest metropolitan economy in Europe, after London, Paris, and the Rhine-Ruhr (also polycentric), and before the COVID-19 crisis was experiencing reasonably good growth throughout the later 2010s of about 2.5% per year. The idea of the Randstad as a polycentric metropolis is a consistent feature in the modern history of Dutch spatial development and planning, but there have been many twists and turns. This chapter also presents an overview on the key concepts discussed in this book.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Spatial Planning and Strateg
Conclusion and outlook
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book shows how specific advantages given to cities, for instance trading and taxation rights in medieval times, had a clear influence on the economy of cities and through that, on population growth. It also shows how so-called interaction environments, places for personal encounters and for the exchange of persons, goods (including cultural ‘goods’ like music, theatre or museological productions), capital and information, are today scattered over the Randstad (together forming the Holland Cluster), while at the same time concentrated in the main cities, spilling over in ever larger areas, in particular in Amsterdam. The book concludes that the reputation of Dutch national spatial planning of being effective in containing urban sprawl is unwarranted, or at best only partly justified.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Spatial Planning and Strateg

ANALISIS ISI PESAN TENTANG CITRA IBU DALAM LAGU "BERTAUT" KARYA NADIN AMIZAH
The song serves as a mass communication medium, where musical composition is used to convey messages through lyrics. The role of musicians, such as Nadin Amizah, can be categorized as communicators, with song lyrics serving as tools to deliver messages from the author to the listener. Messages expressed through lyrics encompass various expressions like anxiety, anger, love, which are then received by listeners as message recipients. This process involves communication realized through musical symbols, both in terms of melody and lyrics. Therefore, this study aims to understand and describe how Nadin Amizah utilizes song lyrics as a communication medium to shape the image of a mother through her songs. The research also employs image theory, a qualitative approach, and content analysis techniques. The findings show that the lyrics of "Bertaut" depict the image of a mother in several significant aspects. First, Nadin Amizah as a songwriter uses lyrics as an effective communication tool to convey emotional messages to listeners. Second, various forms of maternal love and affection are portrayed in the lyrics, highlighting the crucial role of mothers in a child's life. Third, the lyrics emphasize that a child is a reflection of their mother, with the desired image being the best to create a brilliant generation. Fourth, without a mother's image and support, a child tends to feel lacking and lost in facing life's challenges

Governance and power in the metropolitan regions of the Randstad
This chapter focuses on the nature and powers of governance arrangements in two Dutch metropolitan areas, both situated in the Randstad: the Metropolitan Region Amsterdam (Metropoolregio Amsterdam) and the Metropolitan Region Rotterdam The Hague (Metropoolregio Rotterdam Den Haag ). It considers the power of process by analysing the actor network and relations. The chapter deals with an overview of recent international trends in metropolitan governance. It then presents a summary of trends in sub-national governance in the Netherlands. Territorial governance is being redefined in the light of important societal challenges, new powers and responsibilities and new attempts to increase the societal relevance of planning. Metropolitan governance bodies – bodies aiming at organising responsibilities among public authorities in metropolitan areas – are extremely common in most OECD countries. Amidst the economic recession of the 1980s cooperation between the three Randstad provinces picked up again in various domains from 1985 onwards, including spatial planning.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Land DevelopmentSpatial Planning and Strateg

NADIN – LIBURNIAN CULT OF THE DEAD, RESEARCH CAMPAIGNS 2004–2006, 2009
Autor iznosi nove rezultate istraživanja liburnskog Nadina (Nedinum) u kontekstu dosadašnjih saznanja o nadinskom arheološkom kompleksu s kontinuitetom života od ranoga brončanog doba do 17. st. Cjelovito su istraženi humak 13 te grobni prostor (14 x 6,8 m), nazvan cela I, u sastavu nekropole na ravnome podno Gradine (Nedinum).
Humak 13, u upotrebi od 9. do 6. st. pr. Kr., s 19 kružno (koncentrično) raspoređenih grobova, s 37 identificiranih individua (od toga 16,2% djece), bitno upotpunjuje poznavanje liburnskih humaka: njihovu planimetriju, stanovite konstrukcijske, obredne i društvene aspekte.
Kr. nadalje. Liburnsko ograđivanje grobnih četvrtastih parcela vrstom obzida potvrđuje stanovitu planiranost i monumentalnost i liburnske nekropole iz “starijega“ željeznog doba. The author presents the latest results of the excavations of Liburnian Nadin (Nedinum) in the context of current knowledge about the Nadin archaeological complex with continuity of life from the Early Bronze Age to the 17th century. Burial mound 13 was completely explored as well as the grave area (measuring 14 x 6,8 m) designated as “cella I” within a flat necropolis at the foot of Gradina (Nedinum).
Burial mound 13, dated from the 9th to 6th centuries BC, has 19 circularly (concentrically) distributed graves with 37 identified individuals (16,2% of which were children). This burial mound contributes significantly to the study of Liburnian burial mounds: their planimetry, certain constructional, ritual and social aspects. Following the discovery of cremation of the dead from the Bronze Age (Podvršje – Matakov brig, Nadin, Ervenik, Duševića glavica – Krneza) in northern Dalmatia, burial mound 13 from Nadin, with the greatest number of buried individuals in Liburnian society, yielded first Liburnian cremation burials in northern Dalmatia, along with grave 4 from Dragišić.
Cella I which is a typical sample of great Nedinum flat necropolis, is a complex consisting of graves and architecture; it is the first of the kind to be investigated in the Liburnian culture. Two basic building phases of the cella were identified: the Liburnian phase, from the Iron Age, and the Liburnian–Roman phase from the Romanization period. Enclosing walls of the cella belong to the second phase as well as a rectangular base of a great monument (?) or aedicule (?), cremation burials and a multitude of movable monuments.
In the Roman period cella was a part of a regular scheme of Liburnian–Roman necropolis of the planned type “near the roads”. It only partially “negated” and destroyed the structure of the old Liburnian cemetery above which it was raised. Namely most of the graves belong to the Liburnian phase of burials with prevalence of crouched position of the deceased. Most grave goods can be dated from the 6th century onwards. Liburnian enclosing of rectangular grave parcels with a kind of wall confirms certain premeditation and monumentality of Liburnian necropolis from the “Early” Iron Age
