    Thai catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) is one of the important economic and cultivated fish species in Indonesia. while diseases caused by Aeromonas hydrophila often breakout and spread in catfish farming and sometimes cause large economic losses. Aeromonas hydrophila is a causative agent of motile aeromonad septicemia (MAS). The wide and frequent use of antibiotics in aquaculture for this diseases, has resulted in the development and spread of antibiotic resistance. The other alternative for this case were probiotics, prebiotics, and combined of probiotics and prebiotics (synbiotics). Probiotics are live microbial supplements that beneficially affect the host animal by improving its microbial balance. These strains commonly used as probiotics were Lactobacillus. Prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients that stimulate the growth with selective of intestinal microbial like bifidogenic and lactic acidbacteria in the gastro-intestinal tract. Typically, the prebiotics consist of oligosaccharides, like fructooligosaccharide (FOS), dan galactooligosaccharide (GOS).The aim of this study was to evaluate of probiotic Lactobacillus brevis, prebiotic Oligosaccharides and synbiotics upon the population bacteria in the intestine, immune response, survival (SR), and growth rate (SGR) of Thai Catfish seeds (Pangasionodon hypophthalmus) which was infected by Aeromonas hydrophila. The study was carried out at the Fish Health Laboratory, Aquaculture Department of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science Bogor Agricultural University; College of Fisheries university Extension Programe; and Main Centre of Freshwater Aquaculture Development, on October – December 2012. The parameters were total number of Lactobacillus sp. in the gut, total number of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit, leucocyte, differntial leucocyte, and phagocytic activity, survival rate, growth rate, FCR (feed convertion ratio), and water quality. For in vivo test 5 (five) treatments and three replicated utilized, i.e. positive control (K(+)), negative control (K(-)), probiotic (Pro), prebiotics Oligosaccharides (Pre) and sinbiotics (Sin). One-way ANOVA was used to determine differences among the treatments. When a significant (p<0.05) difference was detected, the means were compared by use of Duncan’s multiple range test, and analysed by Xl-stat programe The results of the characteristics test showed that the species of probiotic and pathogen were Lactobacillus brevis and Aeromonas hydrophila respectively. In vivo test was carried out in 5 (five) treatments, i.e. positive control (K(+)), negative control (K(-)), probiotic (Pro), prebiotic (Pre) and synbiotic (Sin). The results showed that the total number of Lactobacillus sp. in the gut were between vi 101-106 (CFU/gr) and the total number of erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit, leucocyte, differntial leucocyte, and phagocytic activity have shown significant different (p<0.05) with control at the some times. The treatments of Sin, Pre, Pro and K(-) were at 100% in survival rate (SR), while K(+) was (43.33 ± 11.55)%. The growth rate showed significant different (p<0.05), with the highest value was on Sin treatment (3,37 ± 0.14)%. The FCR of Pro, Pre, and Sin were 1,414±0,13; 1,431±0,08 and 1,305±0,08. This fact suggested that Sin was better than the other treatments in immune respon at total erythrocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and total leucocyte

    Pengembangan sektor perikanan budidaya di Indonesia harus terus dilakukan mengingat hampir 70% produksi ikan berasal dari sektor ini. Dalam pengembangannya, salah satu faktor yang harus diperhatikan adalah masalah kesehatan ikan, terutama yang berhubungan dengan hama dan penyakit termasuk di dalamnya ektoparasit. Meskipun tidak mematikan ikan secara langsung, ektoparasit sangat berbahaya bagi ikan karena menjadi pintu pembuka masuknya patogen yang berbahaya bagi kehidupan ikan, baik dari jenis virus, bakteri, jamur maupun dari jenis endoparasit. Identifikasi jenis dan keberadaan ektoparasit merupakan upaya awal untuk penanggulangan maupun antisipasi agar tidak terjadi wabah ketika gejala awal sudah diketahui. Upaya lain adalah penanggulangan ketika parasit ini telah menginfeksi yang kegiatannya dapat dilakukan melalui penggunakan bahan kimia, fitokimia, fitofarmaka, maupun dengan manipulasi lingkungan dan pakan.In Indonesia, 70 percent of fish production is contributed by aquaculture activities. It is therefore necessary to prioritize this activity to sustain the share of fish and fisheries activities to Indonesian economy. Keeping the fish always in healthy condition and prevention them from diseases and parasites such as ectoparasite are important factors in aquaculture. Ectoparasite not only indirectly causing fish loss but they are also very dangerous in opening the invasion of fish pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi, or endoparasites). It is then necessary to identify ectoparasite as soon as early symptoms are detected so that further negative impacts could be avoided. When the parasites have already attacked, a couple of treatment could be implemented: chemical poisons, phytochemicals or other natural agents, and also applying environment and feed manipulations

    Pengembangan potensi perikanan khususnya perikanan budidaya air tawar di Kecamatan Buntu Pane memiliki tantangan dalam pengelolaannya diantaranya belum terpenuhinya kebutuhan pakan alami secara mandiri cacing sutra (Tubifex sp.) dan masih mengharapkan dari hasil tangkapan alam, sehingga diperlukan pemberdayaan masyarakat pembudidaya ikan dalam budidaya pakan alami cacing sutra (Tubifex sp.). Tujuan dilaksanakannya kegiatan ini yaitu memberdayakan masyarakat pembudidaya meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap dan keterampilan pembudidaya ikan lele mengenai demonstrasi percontohan budidaya cacing sutra (Tubifex sp) sehingga dapat memenuhi kebutuhan pakan alami pembudidaya dan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan sikap dalam penerapan fungsi kelompok sebagai wahana kerja sama dan kesatuan swadaya dan swadana dalam berkelompok melalui pertemuan kelompok. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 16 Maret 2023 hingga 18 Mei 2023 dengan sasaran sejumlah 10 orang yang terdiri dari perwakilan dua kelompok budidaya ikan yaitu kelompok Mekar Jaya dan Kelompok Berkah. Metode pengumpulan data melalui kuesioner, wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan kegiatan penyuluhan dilaksanakan melalui metode ceramah, diskusi, dan demonstrasi percontohan dengan menggunakan media penyuluhan tercetak (folder) serta media sesungguhnya. Hasil kegiatan penyuluhan terkait demonstrasi percontohan budidaya cacing sutra menunjukkan adanya hasil evaluasi awal dan akhir aspek pengetahuan pada kegiatan Demonstrasi Percontohan Budidaya Cacing Sutra dengan responden sejumlah 10 orang diperoleh hasil rata-rata evaluasi awal sebesar 48 dan terjadi perubahan sebesar 52 sehingga rata-rata evaluasi akhir menjadi 100 atau terjadi peningkatan sebesar 52%, aspek sikap sebesar 90,8% dari sikap kurang setuju menjadi sikap setuju, aspek keterampilan 66% tentang membuat media pemeliharaan dengan cepat dan tepat, menentukan padat tebar cacing sutra dan membuat media cacing sutra dengan pengadopsian pada akhir kegiatan sebanyak 4 sasaran pada tahapan mencoba dan 1 sasaran pada tahapan menerapkan. Kegiatan penyuluhan fungsi kelompok terjadi peningkatan mengenai fungsi kelompok aspek pengetahuan sebesar 18%, aspek sikap 93% dari sikap ragu-ragu menjadi sikap setuju, dengan pengadopsian pada akhir kegiatan sebanyak 5 sasaran pada tahapan mencoba dan 9 sasaran pada tahapan menerapkan.The development of the fisheries fresh water in cultivation especially in Buntu Pane sub district have challenges in funds are not independently fulfill the needs of feed natural silk worms ( Tubifex sp. ) and hope for nature of the catch, leading to the need for community empowerment cultivator of the fish in cultivation feed natural silk worm (Tubifex sp.). Extension activity was carried out on september 16 march to 18 may 2023 with the total number of as many as 10 people consisting of a representation of two groups cultivation fisheries fresh water that consist of Mekar Jaya and Kelompok Berkah. Data collection method through questionnaire, interview, observation, and documentation, while extension activities are carried out through the method of discourse, discussion, and pilot demonstrations using print extension media (folder) and real media. The activities of extension related to demonstrations of silkworm culture show the result of early evaluations and the end aspect of knowledge on demonstrations of silkworm culture with response by 10 people obtained an average of 48 and a change of 52 so that the average final evaluation becomes 100 or there is an increase of 52 %, aspect of attitude of 90.8 % of disapproving attitude becomes a agreeing attitude, section 66 % skill about making the maintenance media fast and precise, determines the dense thread of silk worms and makes a medium of silk worms with adoption at the end of 4 targets during the try and 1 target at the adoption stage. Group function extension activity has increased regarding the function of group aspects of knowledge of 18 %, aspect 93 % attitude of hesitation becomes a agreeing attitude, with adoption at the end of activity as many as 5 targets in the trying stage and 9 targets in the application stage

    Kecamatan Banggae memiliki potensi perikanan dalam bidang penangkapan. Pemanfaatan potensi tersebut memerlukan pengembangan potensi sumber daya manusia nelayan yang menjadi motor penggerak pemanfaatan potensi.  Permasalahan yang ada di lokasi adalah nelayan yang berangkat one day fishing belum menggunakan es batu secara kontinyu untuk penanganan hasil tangkap. Hal ini memengaruhi kualitas dan harga jual ikan. Permasalahan lain adalah belum berjalannya peran dan fungsi kelompok dalam pelaksanaan administrasi kelompok.  Tujuan dari kegiatan adalah meningkatkan pengetahuan, sikap serta keterampilan nelayan dalam penanganan ikan di atas kapal menggunakan es batu sehingga mampu meningkatkan kualitas dan menaikkan harga jual. Tujuan lain adalah meningkatkan peran dan fungsi kelompok nelayan melalui pembinaan administrasi kelompok. Sasaran Penyuluhan adalah 20 orang nelayan anggota dari KUB Reski dan KUB Pelita Tasbih di Kelurahan Pangali-ali dan Baru, Kecamatan Banggae. Pendampingan kelompok menggunakan metode demonstrasi cara.  Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil evaluasi kegiatan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan aspek pengetahuan sebesar 64%, aspek sikap dari kurang setuju dan setuju menjadi setuju dan sangat setuju, serta terjadinya perubahan aspek keterampilan pada sasaran penyuluhan. Kegiatan pembinaan adminstrasi kelompok menunjukkan peningkatan aspek pengetahuan sebesar 52,4%, serta aspek sikap dari kurang setuju dan setuju menjadi setuju dan sangat setuju

    EFFECTS OF FEED REDUCTION ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE, WATER QUALITY, AND HEMATOLOGY STATUS OF AFRICAN CATFISH, Clarias gariepinus REARED IN BIOFLOC POND SYSTEM

    Biofloc technique is a method of fish culture using minimal water exchange and microbial aggregates formed within the culture media as fish supplementary feed. Biofloc as a protein source is currently not being considered part of the feeding dosage in catfish culture. This present work aimed to determine the effects of commercial feed reduction on growth performance, water quality, and hematology of catfish cultured in biofloc ponds. Fish with an average body weight of 7.53 ± 0.47 g were stocked in nine ponds with a stocking density of 100 fish/pond and reared for nine weeks. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design, with the following treatments: full feed + non-biofloc (C100) as control; 10% less feed + biofloc (B90); 20% less feed + biofloc (B80). As such, the total feed doses given daily per each treatment fish biomass were: 5% for C100, 4.5% for B90, and 4.0% for B80. Each treatment was arranged in triplicates. The results showed that all water quality parameters (dissolved oxygen, pH, TAN, and nitrite) and biofloc concentrations did not differ significantly among the treatments (P&gt;0.05). Specific growth rate, survival rate, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio of the fish were also not significantly different (P&gt;0.05). The weight gain of biofloc-treated fish in B90 and B80 reached 2.71% and 12.65%, respectively; which were higher than the control treatment during the treatment period. The feed conversion ratios of B90 and B80 were 14.39% and 7.58%, respectively; lower than the control treatment. The biofloc treatment did not adversely alter the fish’s blood cell profiles. This study revealed that feed reduction did not affect water quality in the ponds and blood cell profiles of the fish. Moreover, fish in the biofloc-treated ponds had higher weight gain and lower food conversion ratios compared to fish cultured in the non-treated biofloc ponds. This study suggests that using the biofloc system in catfish rearing can reduce the use of feed up to 10%-20% with similar biomass yield compared to the non-biofloc system

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh pemberian probiotikLactobacillus brevis, prebiotik oligosakarida dan sinbiotiknya terhadap jumlah bakteri Lactobacillus sp. dan total bakteri dalam usus, total eritrosit, total leukosit, diferensial leukosit, aktivitas fagositik, sintasan, tingkat pertumbuhan, serta FCR benih ikan patin siam yang diinfeksi Aeromonas hydrophila. Hasil uji karakteristik menunjukkan bahwa jenis probiotik dan patogen adalah Lactobacillus sp. dan Aeromonas hydrophila. Pada uji in vivo digunakan lima perlakuan yang terdiri atas K(+), K(-), probiotik (pro), prebiotik (pre) serta sinbiotik (sin). Bakteri Lactobacillus sp. ditemukan di usus pada perlakuan probiotik dan sinbiotik dengan kisaran jumlah sekitar 101 sampai 106 (CFU/g). Total eritrosit, total leukosit, aktivitas fagositik berbeda nyata (P&lt;0,05) dengan kontrol pada beberapa waktu pengamatan. Tingkat sintasan terendah diperoleh pada perlakuan K(+) sebesar 43,33±11,55; sedangkan empat perlakuan lainnya memperoleh nilai 100%. Tingkat pertumbuhan harian berbeda nyata antar perlakuan, nilai terbaik dicapai pada perlakuan pemberian sinbiotik sebesar 3,370±0,14. Nilai FCR perlakuan probiotik, prebiotik dan sinbiotik menunjukkan beda nyata dengan kontrol. Perlakuan sin, pre, pro memberikan nilai yang lebih baik pada total eritrosit, total leukosit, aktivitas fagositik, sintasan, pertumbuhan, dan FCR dibandingkan kontrol

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbedaaan padat tebar benih patin pada media pemeliharaan sistem zero exchange water yang ditambahkan probiotik Bacillussp ,terhadap pertumbuhan, profil kualitas air serta sintasan benih ikan patin. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan satu kontrol (padat tebar 1350 ekor per-bak terpal) serta dua perlakuan yang terdiri padat tebar 800 ekor per bak terpal serta 1100 ekor per-bak terpal. Tingkat pertumbuhan harian bobot (%) menunjukkan hasil berbeda nyata antara kontrol dengan perlakuan, namun tidak berbeda nyata antar perlakuan 1 dan 2. Nilai pertumbuhan harian bobot (%) untuk kontrol, perlakuan 1 dan perlakuan 2 berturut-turut adalah 0,14 ± 0,01a, 0,18 ± 0,01 b, dan 0,19 ± 0,01 b. Nilai sintasan menunjukkan nilai antara 85,26 – 93,85 %.     Dalam pengembangan budidaya perikanan, probiotik dinilai memiliki peranan penting untuk meningkatkan efektifitas kegiatan tersebut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian probiotik Bacillus sp terhadap profil kualitas air, kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan benih ikan lele (Clarias gariepinus), dengan melakukan pemeliharaan ikan pada beberapa perlakuan, yaitu kontrol, penambahan bakteri dengan dosis. 10 ml/m3 serta 20 ml/m3 Nilai DO dari media kontrol Perlakuan I dan Perlakuan II secara berturut-turut adalah 6,80 ppm; 6,89 ppm dan 6,92 ppm. Nilai suhu mulai dari kontrol sampai perlakuan I dan II adalah 280C. Nilai pH untuk kontrol perlakuan I dan II adalah 6,6; 6,4 dan 6,6. Berdasarkan uji lanjut (p<0.05) dapat dilihat bahwa perlakuan I (pemberian probiotik 10 ml/m3) memiliki nilai pertumbuhan harian tertinggi sebesar 12,52 ± 0,29b, disusul perlakuan II (pemberian probiotik 20 ml/m3 ) sebesar 12,42 ± 0,33b, serta kontrol sebesar 10,72 ± 0,09a. Perlakuan penambahan bakteri probiotik memberikan hasil yang terbaik untuk pertumbuhan berat pada dosis 10 ml/m3 dengan nilai 12,52 ± 0,29dibanding dengan kontrol dan perlakuan yang lain. Tingkat kelangsungan hidup ikan uji selama masa pemeliharaan berkisar antara 79,8 –87,5 %
