Abstract
Fatma Aliye Hanım and Historiography
Fatma Aliye (1862-1936) was a popular female author one of the first women authors of Turkish history, she was better known as a novelist. However, Fatma Aliye also published works on philosophy, Islam, women, poetry and history. Her historical works have been generally ignored and have not yet been analyzed. Two of her works are evidence of her worth as an historian. The first one published in 1331 (1912-1913) was titled Tarih-i Osmaninin Bir Devre-i Mühimmesi Kosova Zaferi-Ankara Hezimeti (An Important Era of Ottoman History: Kosovo VictoryAnkara Defeat) and the second one published in 1916 was Ahmed Cevdet Pasha ve Zamanı (Ahmed Cevdet Pasha and his time).
This article aims to analyse and evaluate Fatma Aliye’s history writing. In this respect, her use of local and foreign sources, her handling of historical events, her style and language and her approaches to historical events will be examined. The way Fatma Aliye-- probably the first Turkish female history writer-evaluated historical events from a woman’s perspective is also examined.
The study of vertical and raked model piles in deep and shallow clay beds
The aim of this experimental study was to explore the validity of a numerical solution from the Department of Environment computer program "PGROUP", based on linear elastic theory, for raking pile groups and vertical single piles and pile groups embedded in soft clay beds of different depths. Small scale aluminium model piles (diameter D = 12.09mm and slenderness ratio L/D = 30) were used in this investigation. The piles which were instrumented by strain gauged load cells at the top of the pile shaft and at the pile toe were tested both singly and in groups of six, with spacing-to-diameter ratio S/D = 2.5. The beds were prepared in a large consolidation cell (1.0 m diameter and 2.5 m deep) to simulate an elastic half space. Piles and pile groups were tested under vertical, inclined, centric and eccentric loads simulating working conditions. In addition to obtaining new data on the consolidation behaviour of large laboratory clay beds, the main objectives of the research were:(i) to study the effect of reducing the depth of the clay bed above a rigid base on pile flexibilities, pile-shaft load distribution and pile-toe base load; (ii) to determine the influence of pile rake on the behaviour of a pile group in terms of its effect on group flexibilities and load distribution amongst the piles; (iii) to compare all the working load experimental results with analytical predictions from PGROUP.</p

Fatma aliye and defense of Islamic values
The article concerns an analysis of the recently published text by Fatma Aliye debating with European ideas and prejudices about Islam that has not been a subject of interest in the South Slavonic intellectual and academic circles. Fatma Aliye (1862-1936) was the first Turkish woman novelist, the first Turkish woman philosopher, and the author of the book Tezahur-i Hakikat (Appearance of Truth) that was published for the first time in January 2016 on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of her death. Like some writers of the Tanzimat era, especially Namik Kemal, Fatma Aliye entered the debate with the European writers wishing to oppose the prevailing Orientalist approach in Europe that had been blaming Islam for the stagnation of sciences and culture. She demonstrated enviable erudition and devotion to the Islamic culture. Her views show the permanent duality of the Ottoman intellectuals between their desire for Westernization and their need to stay in the Islamic tradition. In many aspects, the approaches to Islam and the defence of Islamic values of Fatma Aliye are still current
