    Publication Trends on Infective Endocarditis: Comprehensive Bibliometric Analysis and Visualization Between 1892 and 2022

    ABSTRACT Background: In recent years, studies reported that the incidence of infective endocarditis (IE) has increased despite the decrease in rheumatic heart diseases, great advances in medical and surgical treatment methods, and prophylactic antibiotic therapies. However, there is no bibliometric analysis based on the visual mapping method in the literature. In the study, we aimed to analyze the hot topics in IE, the distribution of publications in terms of country, institution, journal, author, and their relationships by assessing IE articles published in the 130 years between 1892 and 2022. Methods: Publications before 2023 were analyzed using the keywords “infective” and “endocarditis” in the Scopus database. Results: Approximately 25% of the publications on IE were from the USA followed by Japan, France, and the UK. A total of 116 keywords were used at least 15 times and the keywords were categorized into 9 clusters by the VOSviewer program. The keywords used more than 100 times except “infective endocarditis” were “echocardiography,” “mortality,” “surgery,” “Staphylococcus aureus,” “cardiac surgery,” “epidemiology,” and “prognosis” 247, 191, 152, 142, 130, 122, and 119 times, respectively. To the best of our knowledge, the study is the most comprehensive study globally on IE with the widest time range including the visual mapping method. Conclusion: Since our study reveals the changes in the literature related to infective endocarditis, we think that it will be a guide in planning new research studies. We believe that periodic repetition of bibliometric analyses and keyword mapping studies will contribute to the quantitative and qualitative development of scientific productivity globall

    Evaluation of Toxoplasma gondii, Rubella, and CMV Antibody Positivity and Avidity Test Results in Female Patients Admitted to A State Hospital in İstanbul

    ÖZET Amaç: Toxoplasma gondii, rubella ve sitomegalovirus (CMV) “TORCH” (Toxoplasma, Others, Rubella, Cytomegalo - virus, Herpes simplex virus) grubu mikroorganizmalar olup bölgesel olarak epidemiyolojik verilerinin bilinmesi ve raporlanması, özellikle bölgesel ve ulusal düzeyde rutin tarama yapılıp yapılmayacağına karar vermede büyük önem taşımaktadır. Çalışmamızda, İstanbul’da bulunan bir devlet hastanesine başvuran kadın hastalarda T. gondii, rubella ve CMV IgM ve/veya IgG antikorlarının sıklığının değerlendirilmesi amaçlandı. Yöntemler: Ocak 2017-Aralık 2020 tarihleri arasında hasta serumlarında incelenen T. gondii, rubella ve CMV IgM ve/ veya IgG antikor test sonuçları retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Toplam 33 636 örnek değerlendirildi. Tüm örnekler içinde en fazla seropozitif olgu sayısı 20-29 yaş grubun - da tespit edildi (n=4626, %26.72). En yüksek sayıda antikor pozitifliği %33.29 oranı ile 2019 yılında rapor edildi. IgG seropozitiflik oranları, T. gondii için %24.1, rubella için %93.5 ve CMV için %98.3 idi. Sonuç: T. gondii seroprevalansındaki farklılıklar dışında, çalışmamızın sonuçları ülkemizde ve dünyada yapılan diğer çalışmalarla benzerdir. Çalışmamızda T. gondii için yüksek seronegatiflik oranının saptanması, bölgedeki gebelerin T. gondii infeksiyonu açısından dikkatle izlenmesi gerektiğini göstermektedir. TORCH grubu ajanlar için ulusal tarama programlarının oluşturulması ve daha kapsamlı çalışmalar yapılması gerektiği düşünülmektedir.ABSTRACT Objective: Toxoplasma gondii, rubella, and cytomegalovirus (CMV) are among the TORCH (Toxoplasma, Others, Ru - bella, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes simplex virus) group microorganisms. Knowing regional epidemiological data on TORCH group infections is important, especially when deciding whether to perform routine screening at the regional and national levels. Our study aimed to evaluate the frequency of T. gondii, rubella, and CMV IgM and/or IgG anti - bodies in female patients admitted to a state hospital in İstanbul. Method: T. gondii, rubella, and CMV IgG and IgM antibody results tested in patient sera between January 2017 and December 2020 were evaluated retrospectively. Results: The results of 33 636 samples were evaluated. The highest rate of seropositivity was detected in the 20-29 age group (n=4626, 26.72%). The highest of antibody positivity was reported in 2019 (33.29%). The IgG seropositivity rate was 24.1% for T. gondii, 93.5% for rubella, and 98.3% for CMV. Conclusion: Except for the differences in T. gondii seroprevalence, the results of our study seem to be similar to those of other studies both in our country and globally. The seronegativity rate (74.9%) for T. gondii was high in our research, which indicates that pregnant women should be carefully monitored for T. gondii infection in our region. We con - clude that more comprehensive studies are needed to establish national screening programs for TORCH group agent

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
