A new test for normality and independence

    No full text
In this paper, a new test of normality and independence is proposed. This test is designed through a multivariate empirical characteristic by considering a result form [Ejsmont 2016]

Effectiveness of Teaching and the Transitions Between Schools

    No full text
Changing the place of residence of the student is undoubtedly related to the student's educational performance. Parents changing the place of residence also change the environment. The main purpose of this article is to examine the impact of a change of residence in the subsequent stages of learning on educational outcomes

Educational value added as a measure of the effectiveness of teaching in Polish secondary schools in terms of their location

This paper undertakes the problem of differentiation of students performance according to the type location in which the student was born, i.e. in a village, in larger or smaller cities. The analysis is performed on the basis of the results the students achieved in secondary schools in 2011. The level of knowledge is measured by the ratio educational value added

    Free Meixner distributions

    No full text
In this paper the most important distributions in free probability (and maybe in the universe) will be presented. It is worth emphasizing that these distributions are not known among economists

    Remarks on Wigner’s semicircle law

Ejsmont [2014] has shown that families of free Meixner distributions can be characterized by the conditional moments of polynomial functions of degree 3. In this paper, we will give other characterizations of the free normal distribution which are formulated in a similar spirit

Basic concepts of free probability theory

Free probability theory was created by Dan Voiculescu, motivated by his efforts to understand special classes of von Neumann algebras. In the following we will give, mostly from the probability point of view, a survey on some of the basic ideas and results of free probability theory and show that in free probability theory, the role of Wigner’s semicircle distribution is analogous to that of the normal distribution in classical probability theory

    Noncommutative probability of type D

We construct a deformed Fock space and a Brownian motion coming from Coxeter groups of type D. The construction is analogous to that of the q-Fock space (of type A) and the (alpha, q)-Fock space (of type B)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
