Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textAraştırma düşük sosyo-kültürel özellikteki okulöncesi dönem 48-66 ay çocuklarına etkileşimli kitap okuma programının yazı farkındalığına etkisinin incelenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırmada ön test-son test kontrol gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılında Diyarbakır ili merkez ilçesi Sur' da bulunan Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı anasınıfında okulöncesi eğitime devam eden toplam 23 normal gelişim gösteren çocuk oluşturmaktadır. Çocuklar 48-66 ay aralığında olup 11 kişilik bir sınıf deney, 12 kişilik bir sınıf kontrol grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan kişisel bilgi formu ve Karaman (2013) tarafından geliştirilen Erken Okuryazarlık Becerilerini Değerlendirme Aracı' nın Yazı Farkındalığı alt testi kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca Etkileşimli Kitap Okuma uygulaması sırasında çocukların davranışlarıyla ilgili uygulayıcının
gözlemlerine başvurulmuştur. Araştırmaya, Ekim ayında her iki gruba da Karaman (2013) tarafından geliştirilen Erken Okuryazarlık Becerilerini Değerlendirme Aracı' nın Yazı Farkındalığı alt testi uygulanarak başlanmıştır. Çalışma grubunda yer alan çocuklara ön test-son test uygulanmıştır. Çalışma 10 haftalık bir uygulama olup her hafta için farklı bir kitap belirlenmiştir. Etkileşimli Kitap Okuma Programının uygulamasına yönelik kitapların belirlenmesinde çocuk edebiyatı ve erken okuryazarlık konularında çalışan beş uzmandan görüş alınarak 10 kitap belirlenmiştir. Uygulamada kullanılacak olan her kitap için öykü kitaplarının teması ve çocukların düzeyi dikkate alınıp çocuklar tarafından anlamının bilinmediği düşünülen beş kelime belirlenerek çocukların seviyesine uygun çocuk dostu terimlerle anlatılmıştır. Her hafta okunan kitap için bir harf belirlenip planlanan uygun bir etkinlikle ele alınmıştır. Uygulama haftanın üç günü (Pazartesi-Çarşamba-Cuma) ve her uygulama yaklaşık 45 dakika olarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Uygulamaya başlamadan önce araştırma grubuna alınan çocukların ailelerine, yapılacak araştırma uygulaması hakkında bilgi verilerek Etkileşimli Kitap Okuma Programı ile ilgili farkındalık oluşturmak için farklı günlerde iki oturum şeklinde seminer gerçekleştirilmiştir. 1. oturumda resimli çocuk kitapları ve ebeveynlerin bu kitapları daha etkili nasıl kullanabilecekleri, 2. oturumda ise yapılacak olan araştırmanın önemi, amacı, kullanılacak yöntem-teknikler ile ilgili seminer gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma grubunda yer alan çocuklara aileleri herhangi bir müdahalede bulunmamıştır. Araştırmanın sonucu için, verilen programın etkililiğinin incelenmesinde ANCOVA (Kovaryans Analizi) kullanılmıştır. Bu araştırma kapsamında gerçekleştirilen etkileşimli kitap okuma uygulamalarının, düşük sosyo-kültürel özellikteki ailelere sahip çocukların ve buna ek olarak anadili eğitim dilinden farklı olan çocukların yazı farkındalığı performanslarını yüksek oranda desteklediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca etkileşimli kitap okumanın diğer erken okuryazarlık becerilerinin (sözcük farkındalığı, alfabe bilgisi, sözel dil becerileri, fonolojik farkındalık, yazı yazma denemeleri) de gelişimine katkı sağladığı verilerine ulaşılmıştır.The research has been conducted with the aim to investigate the impact of interactive book reading program on awareness of writing of 48-66 months old children of preschool period with low socio-economic level. In the research, semi-experimental design with pretest and final test has been used. The study group of research is composed of 23 children showing normal development and attending preschool education at the kinder garden class within the body of Ministry of National Education as being situated in the city of Diyarbakir, central district and the location of Sur within the academic years of 2016-2017. Children are between 48 and 66 months old and while a class of 11 people makes up the Experimental group, a class of 12 people forms the control group. As data collection tools, the personal information form that is prepared by the researcher and Writing Awareness sub-test of Early Literacy Skills Assessment Tool that is developed by Karaman (2013) are used. Furthermore, the observations of implementers relating with the attitude of children during the application of Interactive Book Reading are also considered. It is commenced with the research by applying the Writing Awareness sub-test of Early Literacy Skills Assessment Tool that is developed by Karaman (2013) to the two groups in the month of October. Pretest and final test are applied to the children who are in the study group. The study is an application of 10 weeks and a different book is specified for each week. In determining the books relating with Interactive Book Reading Program, opinions of five experts in the field of children's literature and early literacy topics are taken and 10 books are determined. By considering the theme of story books and the level of children for each book that will be used in the implementation, five words are determined being thought that their meanings are not known by the children and they are explained with children friendly terms as being suitable for the level of children. A letter is determined for each book that is read in each week and it is handled with an appropriate event that is planned. Application has been realized for three days in a week (Monday -Wednesday-Friday), whereas duration of each application was nearly 45 minutes. Before starting with the application, information is given to the families of children that are taken in the research group and in order to create awareness relating with Interactive Book Reading Program, seminars are realized on different days in two sessions. In the 1th session, a seminar is realized about pictorial children's books and about explaining how parents can read these books more effectively and in the 2nd session, a seminar is given about the importance of research that will be realized, its purpose and the methods-techniques that will be used. As relating with the outcome of research, in order to investigate the effectiveness of the program given, ANCOVA (Covariance Analysis) is used. Within the scope of this study, it is reached to the conclusion that the interactive book reading implementations that are realized, significantly supported the writing awareness performances of children of families having low sociocultural features and of those children whose mother tongue was different than their education language. Furthermore, it is reached to the data that interactive book reading, also contributed to the improvement of other early literacy skills.
