The Astragalus minimus(Leguminosae,Galegeae) Complex and One Species for Chile and Argentina
No full textAstragalus minimus Vogel (Leguminosae) is endemic to the Andean region of South America, in Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and northwestern Argentina. This taxon belongs to a pulvinate species complex in the genus Astragalus L. (Leguminosae, Galegeae) from high mountain puna vegetation, between 4000 and 4500 m in the Neotropics. The A. minimus complex is newly delimited, in particular with information for the fruit, which was not described in Vogel's 1843 protologue. This new information allows the identification of A. tacorensis Gómez-Sosa as a species new to science; both taxa are morphologically described and illustrated.Fil: Gomez, Edith Vilma. No full textLa presente investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto del aceite de cannabis
cannabidiol (CBD) como analgésico postoperatorio en ovariohisterectomía en canes. Se
aplicó un diseño cuasi experimental post test con 80 canes hembras de diversas razas,
divididas en dos grupos de 40: uno tratado con CBD y otro con meloxicam. Se empleó la
escala de dolor de la Universidad de Melbourne. Los resultados mostraron que los canes del
grupo CBD registraron un rango promedio de 35.85 en parámetros fisiológicos de dolor,
menor que el 45.15 del grupo de meloxicam. La respuesta a la palpación también fue superior
en el grupo CBD, con un promedio de 35.70 frente a 45.30. En actividad postoperatoria, el
promedio fue de 44.95 en el grupo CBD, comparado con 36.05 en el de meloxicam. Además,
los cachorros (6 a 12 meses) tuvieron un rango promedio de 24.74, significativamente menor
que el 56.26 en canes adultos (13 a 24 meses). El análisis estadístico arrojó un valor de Z = -
2.082 y un p-valor de 0.037, señalando una diferencia significativa y confirmando la eficacia
del CBD como analgésico. Se concluye que el CBD es efectivo en mejorar la respuesta al
dolor y la actividad postoperatoria en cachorros
Response to Löhr: Why we still need a new normativism
No full textGuido Löhr's recent article makes several insightful and productive suggestions about how to proceed with the empirical study of collective action. However, their critique of the conclusions drawn in Gomez-Lavin & Rachar (2022) is undermined by some issues with the interpretation of the debate and paper. This discussion article clears up those issues, presents new findings from experiments developed in response to Löhr's critiques, reflects on the role of experimental research in the development and refinement of philosophical theories, and adds to Löhr's suggestions about the path forward.Final article published
Sex, Gender, and Violent Care: An Analysis of Intersexuality and Medical Treatment
No full textDrawing upon the theories of Lisa Stevenson, Pidgeon Pagonis, and Michel Foucault, this paper examines medical jurisdiction, understandings of sex and gender, intersex conditions, and the intersex liberation movement. Gomez-Lacayo demonstrates how these concepts relate to Foucault’s theory of biopolitics and Stevenson’s conception of care. By analyzing specific cases of sexual reassignment such as that of Herculine Barbin, the author argues that treatment of intersex conditions often constitutes a violent form of care made possible through increasing medical intervention and jurisdiction. Gomez-Lacayo further analyzes medicine as a vehicle for the expression and recreation of cultural and social pluralities

AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE USED IN SELENA GOMEZ RARE SONG ALBUM
No full textThe most important aspect of human life is language. Language is a medium used by humans to express their emotions. Hence, nothing can replace language as a means of communication. Within the world of language and literature, figurative language is a branch of linguistics that depicts meanings that do not truth, so it can only be used depending on the speaker’s context and background. This study aims to find out the types of figurative languages are found in the songs of Selena Gomez Rare album and to describe the figurative language in Selena Gomez Rare album mean. This research uses a qualitative approach by using human investigators as instruments in the process of analyzing and collecting data. In addition, the author also uses documents as supporting instruments. Data was collected through three song titles contained in the Rare album. In this research, the data analysis conducted by the author is a descriptive analysis. Therefore, this research does not use a hypothesis as a temporary answer to the research problem. Based on the research findings, the author found 26 expressions of figurative language. There are two figurative languages that are often used, namely metaphor and hyperbole. There are 12 metaphorical expressions, 8 hyperbole expressions, 2 symbolism expressions, 1 personification expression, 1 simile expression, 1 paradoxical expression, 1 irony expression, and mytonymy expression cannot be found in the three songs
On the Edge of a Quarantine : Zombies of Our World
No full textThis paper follows the journey of the author when she had to go through a quarantine during the Ebola outbreak that hit Guinea between 2014 and 2015. While she was conducting her fieldwork at the Ebola treatment unit of Wonkifong, Veronica Gomez-Temesio unfortunately broke some biosecurity rules. As she fell ill few days later, she was suspected to have been infected by Ebola and was quarantined as a result. The text tells the story of her experience along with the journey of several patients quarantined in Wonkifong. Through these different stories, the article discusses how the humanitarian politics of triage reveals an inequality of life that is at the core of humanitarian practice.
