Gerhard’s electronic music is one of the richest repositories for understanding the development of the composer’s late compositional technique. This paper will discuss aspects of Gerhard’s electronic music, focusing on Audiomobiles (1958-59) and Sculptures (1963)
Particles, fields, quanta: from quantum mechanics to the standard model of particle physics

Gerhard Ecker describes the development of modern physics from the beginning of the quantum age to the standard model of particle physics, the fundamental theory of interactions of the microcosm. Roberto Gerhard’s Sound Compositions: A Historical-Philological Perspective. Archive, Process, Intent and reenactment
No full textThis research advances the current state of knowledge in the field of early tape music both empirically and methodologically. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact that the electronic medium exerted in the musical thinking of Roberto Gerhard, one of the most outspoken, prolific and influential composers in the Spanish diaspora whose musical legacy, for the most part unknown, is a major landmark in the early history of electroacoustic music. Gerhard’s personal tape collection, one of the largest historical archives of its kind reported in the literature, is exceptional for both its antiquity (50+-year-old tapes) and its abundance of production materials. Through the digitisation and analysis of the composer’s tape collection this research argues that the empirical study of audio documents sets out a basis for a broader understanding of textual processes. More specifically, the research demonstrates that the reconstruction of works based on magnetic tape sketches is a powerful method to advance the understanding of early tape music. This research also examines Gerhard’s sound compositions in relation to the post-war context in which they were composed. Finally, this research presents performance documentation that proposes an approach to the electroacoustic music repertoire in which creativity is not at odds with rigor and critical discernment demonstrating that archival study can be closely aligned to the concept of re-enactment

Classification of nucleic acid binding proteins by non parametric statistical methods and machine learning
No full textThe interactions between proteins and nucleic acids have a fundamental function in many biological processes beyond nuclear gene transcription and include RNA homeostasis, protein translation and pathogen sensing for innate immunity. Transcriptional regulation is often facilitated by nucleic acid binding proteins (NABPs) that bind to specific nucleic acid sequence motifs. So far research has been focusing mainly on these proteins, although sequence specific NABPs constitute only a fraction of all NABPs. The aim of this study is to get an unbiased classification of both groups of NABPs and thereby provide a resource that contains information about both, sequence specific and non sequence specific NABPs. Affinity purification in combination with the resolution of current Mass Spectrometry approaches allows to get a near proteome wide picture of these interactions. Here, 25 systematically designed oligonucleotides were used to probe three human cell lines for NABPs. Overall more than 10000 interactions could be detected between the nucleic acid baits and almost one thousand unique proteins. Statistical methods to derive a global classification based on this experimental proteomics data set are evaluated in this work. Non parametric statistical methods allowed classification of proteins with high sensitivity. Application of these methods allowed to determine the specificity of 174 NABPs for different classes of nucleic acids. Knowledge extracted by the analysis is evaluated by available annotation as well as additional experiments to validate the analysis. Among these we could show cytosinemethylation specific binding of Y-box-binding protein 1 (YB-1) which was previously unknown and has potential implications in cancer research.Sequence analysis of the detected proteins revealed candidate nucleic acid binding protein domains. Furthermore, based on the extracted classification, a Support Vector Machine could be trained that allows prediction of NABPs with high specificity solely based on amino acid sequence

No full textIn meiner Dissertation zu dem Thema "Gerhard Schumann - Biographie. Werk. Wirkung eines prominenten nationalsozialistischen Autors" habe ich Gerhard Schumanns Biographie, Werk sowie dessen Wirkung im Rahmen historischer Ereignisse dargestellt und analysiert, um einen Beitrag zur Erforschung des Nationalsozialismus und seiner Literatur zu leisten. Kontinuitäten innerhalb der Literatur des Autors vor 1933, zwischen 1933 und 1945 sowie nach 1945 sollen dabei herausgestellt werden. Zentrale Themen und Motive im Werk des Autors werden aufgezeigt.Biographie, Gesamtwerk und Wirkung des Autors Gerhard Schumann sind auf der Grundlage von zeitgenössischem Quellenmaterial untersucht worden. Dies liegt in Form von Zeitungsartikeln, Briefen, Gesetzestexten, Aktenmaterial und anderem vor. Dazu waren verschiedene Archivreisen notwendig, um das Material zu sichten, zu sammeln und auszuwerten. Ich besuchte das Literaturarchiv in Marbach am Neckar, das Hölderlinarchiv in Stuttgart, das Stadt- und Universitätsarchiv in Tübingen, das Bundesarchiv in Koblenz mit den Außenstellen Berlin Lichterfelde, Freiburg im Breisgau und der Hauptstelle Koblenz sowie das Bayerische Staatsarchiv in München und das Archiv des Börsenvereins des Deutschen Buchhandels in Frankfurt am Main.Im Anschluss an die Biographie, die chronologisch den Lebensstationen Schumanns folgt, wird das Werk des Dichters, insbesondere seine nationalsozialistische Poetik, beschrieben, interpretiert und dessen Wirkung untersucht. Dabei werden Schumann und sein Werk in die Gruppe nationalsozialistischer Autoren, wie Anacker, Baumann, Bethge, Blunck, Euringer, Johst, Schauwecker, Vesper und von Scholz, eingeordnet. Ich gebe einen Gesamtüberblick über Schumanns Werk und analysiere die Hauptwerke des Autors genauer. Zu berücksichtigen ist, dass Schumanns Werk nicht als Gesamtausgabe vorliegt, und die Analyse nur entsprechend der vorhandenen Einzelausgaben erfolgen konnte. Dies lässt sich darauf zurückführen, dass er nicht den Popularitätsgrad besaß, wie zum Beispiel Hans Friedrich Blunck, für den die Blunck-Gesellschaft eine Gesamtausgabe herausgegeben hatte. Innerhalb der Werkbetrachtung, in der alle Schriften, die Schumann verfasste, berücksichtigt und die Hauptwerke näher analysiert werden, soll auf die Wirkung der Werke - vor allem der lyrischen und dramatischen - eingegangen werden. Von Bedeutsamkeit ist dabei, auf welche Weise sich seine lyrische Produktion nach 1945 von der früheren unterscheidet und inwieweit sich Parallelen aufzeigen lassen. Dabei findet ein Vergleich seiner Biographie mit der anderer nationalsozialistischer Autoren statt. Die Wirkung seiner Werke in dieser Zeit ist mit einzubeziehen und seine Rolle im kulturpolitischen Geschehen zu untersuchen.Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit möchte ich exemplarisch zeigen, dass Schumann - und er ist kein Einzelfall - als Lyriker und Kulturpolitiker des nationalsozialistischen Regimes zu sehen ist. Schumann gehörte zu einer Generation, die sich in den Dienst eines totalitären Systems stellte und ohne eine fundierte Ausbildung Karriere machte. Seine Lyrik hatte Propagandafunktion und trug dazu bei, das nationalsozialistische Herrschaftssystem zu etablieren und zu stützen. Ich gehe auf Schumanns Erfolg als Dichter ein, vor allem auf die Zeit zwischen 1939 und 1945, da während des Kriegs seine "Kriegs- und Reichslyrik" in hohen Stückzahlen aufgelegt wurde. Zunächst soll die nationalsozialistische Poetik am Beispiel Gerhard Schumanns dargestellt werden. Im Anschluss daran folgt die Thematisierung der frühen Kriegslyrik. Auch folgt ein allgemeines Kapitel zur Poetik des Nationalsozialismus am Beispiel Gerhard Schumanns. Am Ende der Forschungsarbeit gehe ich auf Schumanns Selbstverständnis als nationalsozialistischer Autor und die nationalsozialistische Poetik ein und mache deutlich, dass er einer der "prominenten" nationalsozialistischen Dichter war. Abschließend finden die späte Kriegslyrik und Dramatik Beachtung sowie eine Motivanalyse bezüglich des ´Führerkultes´ und der "Reichsthematik" bezogen auf das Gesamtwerk des Autors wird vorgenommen. Dabei erfolgt ein Vergleich mit der Biographie des Juristen Werner Best, durch den deutlich werden soll, dass die nationalsozialistischen Karrieren in den unterschiedlichen Bereichen Parallelen aufweisen. Die Untersuchung liefert eine Gesamtbibliographie des litearischen und essayistischen Werks, das Schumann vor, während und nach dem Nationalsozialismus verfasste. Auch gebe ich einen Überblick über die relevante Sekundärliteratur zur Gesamtthematik der vorliegenden Arbeit.In my dissertation "Gerhard Schumann - biography. Work. Effekt of a prominent Nazi author" I have described and analysed Gerhard Schumanns biography, work and its effect in the context of historical events in order to give a contribution for the research of National Socialism an his literature. Continuities within the literature of the author before 1933, from 1933 to 1945 and after 1945 will be shown. The main themes and motifs in the work of the author will be identified.Biographie, complete work and the effect of the author Gerhard Schumann has been investigated on the basis of contemporary source material. This exists in form of newspaper articles, letters, legal texts, reference material and others. I made different archives travels in order to sight the material, to collect and evaluate it. I visited the Literature archives in Marbach am Neckar, the Hölderlin archives in Stuttgart, the city and university archives and the archives of Hölderlin society in Tübingen, the Federal Archives in Koblenz with the field offices Lichterfelde Berlin, Freiburg im Breisgau and the main body Koblenz, the Bavarian State Archives in Munic and the archives of the Trade Association of German Book Trade in Frankfurt am Main.After the biography, which shows the chronological life stations of Gerhard Schumann, the analysis follows the work of the poet, in particular its Nazi poetry. This is described, analysed and examined on its effect. Schumann and his work will be classified in the group of Nazi-authors, like Anacker, Baumann, Bethge, Blunck, Euringer, Johst, Schauwecker, Vesper and von Scholz. I give an overview of Schumann´s work and analyse the major works of the author accurate. To take into account is, that Schumann´s work doesn´t exist as complete work, and the analysis only in accordance with the existing single expenditure. This can also lead back, that he hadn´t the degree of popularity, such as Hans Friedrich Blunck, the Blunck society issued a complete work of the author. Within the workshop consideration, in which all the books, Schumann wrote, and considered the main works closer, will analysed the effect of the works - especially the lyrical an dramatic - has taken place. Of significance is the manner, in which his lyrical production after 1945 distinguishes by the former and to show what extent are still parallels. I compare his biography with the biographies of other Nazi authors. The effect was his invention works in this time is involved with his role in the political culture.With this work I give an example, that Schumann, and he is not an isolated case - is to show as a poet and a politician for culture of the Nazi Regime. Schumann belonged to a generation, in the service of the National Socialism, who made without an education a strong career. His poetry had propaganda function and contributed to establish and support the National Socialism. Im going to show Schumann´s success as a poet, especially in the period from 1939 to 1945, during the war, because his ´war and imperial poetry´ existed in large quantities listed sets. So the Nazi poetics Gerhard Schumann presented the Nazi poetics. Following this is the issue of the early "war poetry". Also follows a general chapter on the poetics for National Socialism with the example Gerhard Schumann. At the end of the research work I go to Schumann´s self-image as a Nazi author and to the Nazi poetry and make it clear, that he was one of the ´prominent´ Nazi poets. Finally, the "late war poetry", a drama attention and a motive analysis on the "leadership cult" and "reach issues" to the main work of the author has been given. After that I make a comparison with the biography of the lawyer Werner Best with the clear aim to ensure, that the Nazi careers in different areas had parallels. The study provides a comprehensive bibliography of the literary and essayis work, that Schumann wrote before, during and after the National Socialism. Also I give an overview of the relevant literature to the general theme of this work

Zusammenfassung, Bibliography 223In this dissertation we examine the structure of the singularity sets of
minimal surfaces and the regularity of mean curvature flows with Neumann free
boundary conditions. We present a variety of results in each of these areas.
In researching the structure of minimal surface singularity sets we define
eight types of approximate j-dimensionality known to be related in structure
to the singularity sets of minimal surfaces. We classify each of these
definitions with respect to whether or not they ensure Hausdorff
j-dimensionality, locally finite Hausdorff j-measure or countable
j-rectifiability. This investigation then leads to further measure theoretic
results on a family of fractal sets related to the above problem.
The results presented on mean curvature flows with Neumann free boundary
conditions provide analogies to the known results in mean curvature flow
without boundary. That is, we show among other results, an analogy to the well
known clearing out lemma, an analogy to local regularity in the sense of White
and Ecker and that the Hausdorff n-measure of the singular set is 0 (where n
is the dimension of the surface).Diese Dissertation präsentiert eine vielseitige Untersuchung über diejenigen
Singularitäten, die in der Differentialgeometrie vorkommen. Betrachtet werden
insbesondere die Struktur der Singularitätenmengen von Minimalflächen und die
Regularität von mittleren Krümmungsflüssen mit Neumann Freien-Rand-
Bedingungen.
Bei der Betrachtung der Struktur von Minimalflächen werden acht erstellte
Definitionen mit Bezug auf approximative j-Dimensionalität untersucht. Diese
Definitionen werden wegen ihrer Beziehung mit Singularitätenmengen betrachtet.
Wir klassifizieren die Definitionen danach, ob sie j-Dimensionalität, lokal
endliches Hausdorff j-Maß oder abzählbare j-Rektifizierbarkeit gewährleisten.
Dazu werden maßtheoretische Ergebnisse von einer interessanten Familie der
Fraktale hergeleitet, welche im Zusammenhang mit der obigen Problemstellung
stehen. Zu dem mittleren Krümmungsfluss mit Neumann Freien-Rand-Bedingungen
zeigen wir Analogien zur Regularitätstheorie für mittleren Krümmungsfluss ohne
Rand. Das heißt, wir zeigen unter anderem eine Analogie zu dem bekannten
Clearing Out Lemma, eine Analogie zur lokalen Regularität im Sinne von White
und Ecker und dass das Hausdorff n-Maß der Singularitätenmenge 0 ist (wobei n
die Dimension der Fläche beschreibt)
