IKKalpha negatively regulates ASC-dependent inflammasome activation

    No full text
Full author list omitted for brevity. For the full list of authors, see article. The inflammasomes are multiprotein complexes that activate caspase-1 in response to infections and stress, resulting in the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Here we report that IkappaB kinase alpha (IKKalpha) is a critical negative regulator of apoptosis-associated specklike protein containing a C-terminal caspase-activation-andrecruitment (CARD) domain (ASC)-dependent inflammasomes. IKKalpha controls the inflammasome at the level of the adaptor ASC, which interacts with IKKalpha in the nucleus of resting macrophages in an IKKalpha kinase-dependent manner. Loss of IKKalpha kinase activity results in inflammasome hyperactivation. Mechanistically, the downstream nuclear effector IKK-related kinase (IKKi) facilitates translocation of ASC from the nucleus to the perinuclear area during inflammasome activation. ASC remains under the control of IKKalpha in the perinuclear area following translocation of the ASC/IKKalpha complex. Signal 2 of NLRP3 activation leads to inhibition of IKKalpha kinase activity through the recruitment of PP2A, allowing ASC to participate in NLRP3 inflammasome assembly. Taken together, these findings reveal a IKKi-IKKalpha-ASC axis that serves as a common regulatory mechanism for ASC-dependent inflammasomes

The extension of the Nucho, Ramos, and Wolff method for the non-tetrahedral semiconductors was made by Brum and Ramos. This extended NRW method is applied to the elemental, group III-V, and group II-VI semiconductors and better accuracy is claimed. The ionicity for the II-VI semiconductors (zinc-blende structure) is also calculated and confirms the ionicity scale established by Phillips. Again, Coulson's definition is reconciled with that of Phillips.171241742

The author was involved in training and educating ASCs (Senegal's equivalent of community health workers) as a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer in Senegal. This paper considers the appropriate selection condition for ASCs, based on the problems concerning "personnel selection" experienced by the author during activities. The subjects of this study were five persons who became ASCs in Village A in a rural area of Senegal from September 1998 to January 2000. A comparative analysis was conducted on these five persons. As a result of analyzing the processes of selecting ASCs in Village A, the following important selection conditions were identified : 1) It is good for a ASC to be from a village where a health center is located, or if not, for his/her hometown to have a good relation with the village where a health center is located ; 2) An ASC should be a person who has no work in from his/her 20s to 40s, and yet in the case of a woman is not planning to become pregnant in the near future ; 3) An ASC's family should not hold an important position in the village ; and 4) The economic condition of the ASC's family should be stable, for example the ASC's spouse has cash earnings.10KJ00004723711研究報告Repor

"Put your own house in order first": local perceptions of EU influence on Romani integration policies in the Czech Republic

    No full text
This article examines the influence of the European Union (EU) on the development and implementation of Romani integration policy in the Czech Republic from the perspective of those responsible for policy delivery. Based on analysis of key policy documents and research conducted in the Czech Republic, this article first examines how Romani integration became a more important issue during membership negotiations and then discusses how the criticism of the European Commission's Regular Reports was received by those responsible for implementing pro-Romani policies. Finally, the paper assesses how the status of full EU membership has impacted on integration policy. The article concludes that while funding for Romani integration projects has benefitted some groups, the overall impression of the EU is of a remote institution, quick to criticise and unwilling to practise what it preaches

FASB ASC Topic 606: Revenue from Contracts with Customers Analysis and Impact on the Real Estate Industry

    No full text
abstract: In 2014, IASB and FASB published a new revenue recognition standard that will upend the way revenue is recognized on financial statements filed with the SEC. The new standard, ASC 606 \u2014 Revenue from Contracts with Customers, is effective as of December 16, 2017 for all public US GAAP entities and effective for all IFRS entities as of January 1, 2018. All non-public US GAAP entities are required to implement the reporting standards for financial periods following December 16, 2018. The purpose of this new guidance is to shift from industry and transaction specific revenue recognition methods to a framework that enables financial statement users to understand how and when revenue is recognized. As an incoming associate within the audit industry, I decided to analyze the key differences between the new revenue recognition standard with the existing GAAP and IFRS standards. The following research explores the impact on various industries, particularly the real estate industry. ASC 606's impact will vary depending on the industry. In terms of real estate, the industry will experience a moderate impact. The new guidance will likely enable the earlier recognition of revenue in most instances, based on the five-step revenue recognition process laid out by the IASB and FASB. This publication also analyzes the 10-K's of three companies in the real estate industry; Kennedy Wilson Holdings Inc., CBRE Group Inc., and Digital Realty Trust, Inc. Through excerpts from the 10-K's of these companies, readers will gain insights into how real estate companies are preparing for the implementation of ASC 606. With this new revenue recognition standard, financial statement users will be able to better grasp the nature, timing, amount, and uncertainty of revenue recognition, thereby increasing transparency within the public accounting profession

Universidad Nacional Agraria La Molina. The objective of this paper was to describe the application of the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) salmon certification applied in two commercial salmon farming centers in the Los Lagos Region in Chile. For which the audit process of the ASC salmon certification was first described, carried out by the author of this work fulfilling the role of auditor for both audits, considering the principles that apply and the criteria evaluated during the audit process. This certification program was carried out in May and July, 2022, where information was collected to evaluate compliance with the requirements of the ASC Certification, in CE1 that produces Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) and CE2 that produces Coho Salmon (Oncorrhynchus kisutch) located in the Seno de Reloncaví, Puerto Montt. In both certification processes, the 8 principles of ASCsalmon were evaluated; however, for the purposes of the paper, 2 principles were evaluated and, particularly, on 4 criteria that are related to sediment sampling and análisis to determine compliance or not with the standard ASC salmon. The sediment analysis is presented to the auditor, through a preliminary report carried out by duly accredited consultants and external laboratories, contracted by the company that opts for the certification. The information used for the characterization and assessment of the impacts was carried out based on the sampling of sediments in the polygon defined as the Allowable Zone of Effect (AZE) and outside of it. The result of the audit and subsequent certification indicate that both fattening centers achieve an adequate level of compliance, therefore, the ASC salmon certification is granted

SCR+ASC systems control by backward induction with adaptive grid and different disturbance scenarios

    No full text
[EN] The purpose of this study is to enhance control strategies for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and ammonia slip catalyst (ASC) systems, aiming to effectively reduce NOx emissions from automotive engines during realistic driving cycles. Despite the effectiveness of these after-treatment systems (ATS), their dynamic and non-linear characteristics present significant challenges in achieving precise control. Therefore, this research proposes a hybrid approach that combines backward induction (BI) as the primary optimization technique with model predictive control (MPC) framework for real-time application. The article introduces a reduced-state control-oriented model of the SCR + ASC system, which is embedded into the BI algorithm to calculate optimal control actions within a finite horizon. Additionally, it is proposed an alternative approach for adapting the grid of model states within the BI algorithm, effectively reducing the computational cost. This adjustment enables the algorithm to operate in real-time with near-optimal results, as confirmed by experimental validation. Lastly, the study explores how different degrees of knowledge regarding system disturbances impact the strategy¿s performance, examining three distinct scenarios: constant prediction horizon, probabilistic description, and full knowledge of the prediction horizon. The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: This research has been supported by Grant PID2020-114289RB-I00 funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia eInnovacion, Agencia Estatal de Investigacion (MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033).Pla Moreno, B.;Piqueras, P.;Bares-Moreno, P.;Nakaema-Aronis, A. The corrosion inhibitor 5-tolyltriazole (5-TTri) can have a detrimental impact on aquatic systems thus implying an acute need to reduce the effluent concentrations of 5-TTri. In this study, 5-TTri biodegradation was enhanced through acclimation and nutrient supply. Activated sludge communities (ASC) were setup in nine subsequent ASC generations. While generation two showed a lag phase of five days without biodegradation, generations four to nine utilized 5-TTri right after inoculation, with biodegradation rates from 3.3 to 5.2mgL(-1)d(-1). Additionally, centrifuged AS supernatant was used to simulate the nutrient conditions in wastewater. This sludge supernatant (SS) significantly enhanced biodegradation, resulting in removal rates ranging from 3.2 to 5.0mgL(-1)d(-1) without acclimation while the control groups without SS observed lower rates of ⩽2.2mgL(-1)d(-1).journal article2014 Jul2014 05 05importe
