Figure 1: Effect of Research Discipline, Background Network, and Citation Count on Conventionality and Novelty. Data are shown for the applied physics (18,305), immunology (21,917), metabolism (97,405) and WoS (476,288) networks for 1995; numbers in paren- theses are the count of publications in each network. Subfigures (a) and (b): the x-axis show publications classified into percentile groups based on citation counts (e.g., Top 1 in- dicates those publications in the top 1%) and the y-axis shows the percent of publications in each set that are HC or HN. Based on the selected background network, z-scores are computed for each disciplinary network; thus, imm denotes the immunology network with immunology z-scores and imm wos denotes the immunology network with z-scores from WoS z-scores

This study examined the internationalization of higher education via internationalization at home (IaH) efforts at Central University (CU) using semi-structured interviews with professionals in the Division of Student Affairs and International Student Affairs, and an analysis of illustrative policies and memoranda the past three decades. For the former, I examined the ways in which internationalization at home practices are operationalized at CU as an aspect of comprehensive internationalization. I compared the ways in which the various departments and offices implement campus internationalization (IaH) and connect them to a frameworks for internationalization. Regarding documents, I conducted an in-depth analysis of policies both at the federal level of the United States and at the local level at Central University. The semi-structured interviews explore the definition of internationalization, and the ways in which internationalization is operationalized in both departments. The interview findings were categorized into the following four categories: 1) the evolved understanding of comprehensive internationalization and IaH; 2) the operationalization of comprehensive internationalization through IaH; 3) Internationalization & Economics of Higher Education; and 4) the future of internationalization. These findings along with the document and policy analysis in dialogue with current literature provide a platform for educators around the globe to examine internationalization at their own institutions and as a springboard to navigate the current trends in higher education internationalization moving forward.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'Closed Access', the embargo will last until 2021-12-01The student, Jacob Chacko, accepted the attached license on 2019-11-22 at 12:58.The student, Jacob Chacko, submitted this Dissertation for approval on 2019-11-22 at 13:01.This Dissertation was approved for publication on 2019-11-25 at 14:06.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #14563 on 2020-02-28 at 17:36:26Made available in DSpace on 2020-03-02T22:38:44Z (GMT). Urinary Bladder Xanthoma – Is Immunohistochemistry Necessary?

No full text
AbstractUrinary Bladder Xanthomas (UBX) are non-neoplastic reactive tumor like process. Isolated UBX is rare with only around 15 cases reported (Yu, Patel, & Bonert, 2015). UBX are reported in older patients who present with non specific symptoms like UTI or hematuria. Patients often have associated lipid anomalies. UBX have been vaguely described as yellowish white plaques or patches. Also, recent reports have stressed on the role of Immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis (Al-Daraji, Varghese, & Husain, 2007; Vimal, Masih, Manipadam, & Chacko, 2012). The objective of this report is to provide a cystoscopic view of the tumor which will enable easier identification and also to debate on the role of IHC in diagnosis

A Project to Empower the Staff Awareness in Best Practice Approach to Pain Assessment in Dementia.

No full text
Assessing and treating physical pain and affective discomfort in people who can no longer report on their internal states is quite challenging. Since little is known about best practice in pain assessment for people with dementia, health care providers often learn while "in the trenches”. This thesis reports authors‟ professional journey in trying to empower the staff knowledge in best practice approach to pain assessment in people with dementia. In addition, author updated the pain scale, based on literature, as a clinical tool, for supporting staff in recognition and assessment of pain in clinical practice. The change was implemented using HSE change model. Change typically results as a reaction to specific problems or opportunities the organization is facing based on internal or external stimuli. After an unannounced HIQA visit in authors‟ organisation, many recommendations were made; poor pain assessment was one of the identified priorities. Being a staff nurse and front line manager of the care process in authors‟ organisation, is responsible to ensure the pain assessment is in line with best practice and ensure the comfort of each resident. More over nurses have an ethical obligation to appropriately treat patients‟ pain. Kirkpatrick four level model of evaluation tool was used to evaluate the changes and revealed successful attainment of SMART objectives. Here the author intended to change the structure and process in the organisation. On reflection, author described the challenges encounter during this project, what were the strength and weakness of the project, organisational impact and future recommendations to the organisation.</p

“The devils themselves play here a comedy with me... the saddest one”. A few words about comical inspirations in works of Juliusz SłowackiThe article shows some connections between a lot of Słowacki’s dramas and the Italian commedia dell’arte and some of the earlier comedies written by A. Fredro, which Słowacki maid have seen on stage in Vilnius and Warsaw. What they have in common are: the comical characters, the names or surnames of heroes, which say a lot about their personalities or their look, the comical scenes and situations and the wit. The author shows the connections between the typical commedia dell’arte masks like: the two old man – Pantaloon and Doctor, the servants like Harlequin or Pierrot or Florentin Harlequin named Stenterrelo and some heroes of dramas written by Słowacki. The author analyses the relationships between the earlier comedies of Fredro and the dramas of Słowacki too. She came to the conclusion that both writers use the same motives in their works, for example: an improper marriage, the marriage of convenience, the martial betrayal and the cuckold, the fascination with foreign modes and the thoughtless imitation of them. Both writers have a theatrical vision of their works and wrote them thinking about some actors, who could play parts in them. They both parted an idea that the world is the theater too. This theatrical conception makes the world of dramatis personas unreal. The heroes in Słowacki’s dramas are like marionettes moving by the God? the devil? or the fate? This kind of writing is very modern and typical for the 20th century theater of absurdity, so we may say that Słowacki was a forerunner of this type of drama.“The devils themselves play here a comedy with me... the saddest one”. Diffuse X-ray scattering from tropomyosin crystals

No full text
Motions in proteins are often an important part of their function. Structural information about the protein is hence incomplete without an understanding of the protein dynamics. X-ray crystallography is the technique used in the majority of protein structure determinations; from a crystallographic standpoint as well, the movement of the molecules in the crystal which profoundly affect the X-ray scattering are important. All motions in the crystal affect the Bragg scattering and also give rise to diffuse scattering between and surrounding the Bragg spots. The diffuse X-ray scattering may comprise a large part of the total scattering from the crystal, and it contains information about the correlation of motions that is not available from analysis of the Bragg diffraction peaks.Tropomyosin is a muscle protein that is involved in control of the muscle contraction process. Changes in the structural conformation of the protein are an essential part of this process. Tropomyosin crystals exhibit striking diffuse scattering patterns which are related to its inherent flexibility and motions in the crystal. Diffuse scattering data along all the major directions of the crystal have been measured. A complete three-dimensional diffuse scattering data set has been simulated, and this has been compared to the experimental data in the measured directions. A combination of empirical and analytical methods were used to perform the simulations, and the amplitudes, directions and correlation distances of the motions within the crystal have been calculated.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T13:26:11Z (GMT). The Star Caller: Shining a Light on Game Production and Real Time Cinematics

No full text
In the landscape of interactive entertainment, the synergy between game play and real-time cinematics has become a pivotal force driving innovation and engagement in modern video games. “The Star Caller” is a project made by a small group of talented artists that explores this intersection. It serves as a prime example of how these two features coexist in modern gaming. This project utilizes the fundamentals of not only video game storytelling, but also all the popular aspects of a single player experience. Artistic inspiration from popular works such as God of War: Ragnarok, Warframe, and films such as Children of Men shaped the entire framework of this project, paying homage to these cinematic aspects featured in those games. As the director of this project, I brought together a team of diverse students, each contributing a unique background to author assets required to create the proof of concept for “The Star Caller”. The insights from various stages of the pipeline frequently led to the creation of new methods to streamline processes for efficiently delivering assetsto be incorporated into the game. This then turned to hands-on experience of realizing what it would be like to deal with real issues created by working in a game studio. Through different issues of managing assets, music, and most importantly, people, “The Star Caller” illustrates the effort required to orchestrate the creation of a game featuring unique characters, story-driven environment art, motion capture, and real time visual effects. Bringing this all together, an emphasis was placed on the convergence of cinematics and games, exploring the intricacies of blending these two creative realms to produce a cohesive and immersive gaming experience
