Impact of Family Structure to Everyday Language Use: Sociolinguistic Aspect
No full textŠobrīd Latvijā pieaug pētnieku interese par runāto valodu un valodas lietojumu daudzveidīgās saziņas situācijās. Runa ir cieši saistīta ar situāciju, kurā runas akta dalībnieki veido izteikumus. Runātā valoda ir cieši saistīta ne tikai ar lingvistisko, bet arī sociālo kontekstu. Darba mērķis ir izpētīt ģimenes struktūras ietekmi uz valodas lietojumu ikdienā : sociolingvistiskā aspektā. Faktoloģiskā materiāla avoti ir diktofonā fiksēti spontānas sarunvalodas ieraksti, kas veikti, runātājiem nezinot, lai saglabātu komunikācijas dabiskumu un autentiskumu. Komunikācijas dalībnieki, kuru veidotie ikdienas mutvārdu izteikumi ir izmantoti par pētījuma avotu, ir pieci darba autores ģimenes locekļi. Darbā vislielākā uzmanība ir pievērsta leksiski semantiskajam un daļēji arī sintaktiskajam aspektam, jo tie vislabāk raksturo atšķirības ikdienas runā.Currently, there is growing interest by researchers in Latvia about the spoken language and language use diverse communication situations. Speech is closely linked to the situation in which the speech act participants consists of statements. The spoken language is closely linked not only with linguistic but also with the social context. The aim is to investigate the impact of family structure to everyday language use : sociolinguistic aspect. Factual material sources are spontaneous conversational recordings which were recorded on mobile phone and made without the knowledge of the speakers in order to maintain communication naturalness and authenticity. Communication participants, whom created daily oral statements are used as research sources, are five family members of author. The most attention in work is paid to lexical semantic and syntactical aspects partly because they are best characterized by differences in everyday speech

Get PDFThis paper focuses on the cases related to language use in higher education in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia, specifically about the amendments of the Law on Higher Education Institutions. The ongoing legal dispute pertains to the compliance of the contested norms with several articles of the Constitution of Latvia (Satversme) and the legal norms of the European Union. From a sociolinguistic perspective, the paper analyzes the arguments of the applicants, legislators, and experts involved in the case. The paper draws conclusions about the applicability of the legal process and outcomes for developing a comprehensive theory on how languages can coexist in higher education and research. Additionally, the paper discusses some general considerations about language use in academia and beyond.Šiame straipsnyje pagrindinis dėmesys skiriamas Latvijos Respublikos Konstitucinio Teismo byloms, susijusioms su kalbų vartojimu aukštosiose mokyklose, konkrečiai – Aukštojo mokslo įstatymo pataisoms. Vyksta teisinis ginčas dėl ginčijamų normų atitikties keletui Latvijos Konstitucijos (latv. Satversme) straipsnių ir Europos Sąjungos teisės normoms. Sociolingvistiniu požiūriu straipsnyje analizuojami pareiškėjų, įstatymų leidėjų ir į bylą įtrauktų ekspertų argumentai. Publikacijoje pateikiamos išvados apie teisinio proceso pritaikomumą ir rezultatus kuriant išsamią teoriją, kaip kalbos gali egzistuoti greta aukštajame moksle ir moksliniuose tyrimuose. The Use of Anglisms in Section Opinions and Commentaries of a Business Website

Darbā sniegts vispārīgs pārskats par aizguvumiem un anglismiem, kā arī uzņēmējdarbības tīmekļa vietņu raksturojums; analizēts anglismu lietojums portāla Db.lv sadaļās viedokļi un komentāri.
Darba mērķis:
Salīdzināt anglismu – literāro un neliterāro aizguvumu – īpatsvaru un lietojuma tendences viedokļu un komentāru sadaļās.
Darba uzdevumi:
1.Sniegt vispārīgu pārskatu par aizguvumiem un anglismiem latviešu valodā.
2.Raksturot uzņēmējdarbības portālus.
3.Analizēt valodas materiālu, iegūtos anglismus dalot noteiktās grupās.
Rezultāti rāda, ka Db.lv sadaļā komentāri ir lielāks neliterāro aizguvumu īpatsvars kā viedokļos.

There is a general review about loanwords and anglisms, a description of business websites and an analyse of the use anglisms in section opinions and commentaries of website Db.lv in this thesis.
The aim of thesis is to compare the proportion and tendencies of use of anglisms – literary and unliterary loanwords – in sections opinions and commentaries.
Tasks:
1.To provide a general review about loanwords and anglisms in Latvian.
2.To describe business websites.
3.To analyze the language material, categorizing anglisms in certain groups.
The results show that there are more unliterary loanwords in commentaries than opinions.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
