Origins of Education in Great Moravia and its Subsequent Manifestations
Title: The Origins of Education in Great Moravia and its Subsequent Manifestations Author: Mgr. Radovan Vlha Department: Czech Language Department Supervisor: prof. PhDr. Radoslava Kvapilová Brabcová, CSc. Abstract The thesis focuses on the origins and manifestations of the education on the territory of Great Moravia. The main research method is the analysis of historical source texts, archaeological artefacts and analogical comparison with the situation in 9th century Europe. The growth of education in Great Moravia commenced with the arrival of Constantine and Methodius mission, which proceed from the Byzantine conception of education. The mission picked up the threads of Bavarian missionaries' work, which is proved by the widely professed Christianity prior to the year 863. Initially, the education centres of western missionaries were used with new premises being built later; Sady near Uherske Hradiste being considered the most important. Scholars with aristocratic backgrounds were educated in these centres. The curriculum consisted predominantly from Old Church Slavonic, prayers, theology and music, sometimes accompanied with Latin. The development of the craft industry requisite for the building of churches, decorating jewellery with Christian motives and production of books was directly connected to..
Spaces from Elsewhere
The dissertation thesis deals with a specific type of creation of space, that the author tries to define as scenographic installation. In the first chapter, Space as Medium, the author maps work with space of a variety of artists who inspired him in his own research. He deals with scenography in contemporary theatre, installation in visual arts, creation of exhibitions in museums as well as with art projects in public spaces and creation of contemporary monuments.
The author comes to the conclusion that the scenographic installation is a particular type of scenography that appears in site-specific projects, in environmental and immersive theatre. He also defines the scenographic installation as an independent artistic genre, similar to installation in the visual arts. He specifies this genre by its performative and narrative qualities. The author sees the conection of the space with spectator as participant as another of its distinguishing features.
The research is divided into three parts, where the author points out some of the important spatial characteristics of scenographic installation.
In the first part The Re-contextualization of Space, he describes his experience with authorial site-specific project In S(p)ite of Fire and his scenographic work on environmental theatre Oresteia. He describes how a scenographic installation can transform public space and put it in another context as a part of site specific projects and environmental theatre. In the second part The Phenomenon of Relocation, the author discusses the creation of scenographic installations in exhibition spaces of a museum. He is interested in the ability of scenographic installation to re-interpret the artifacts exhibited in museums. He provides his experience with authorial projects Pergamon Set and Room, produced inside of museums.
In the third part The Spatial Simulation, he explores scenographic installation within the phenomenon of simulation in space in theatres and galleries. He bases his findings on his scenographic work on King Stag and Experiment Mice Paradise performances and on his authorial project You Are Unique You Do Not Exist, produced in a gallery. He comes to the conclusion that scenography alone, without actors, can make a performative space in which the spectator is the main driver and that it can exist as a separate genre, outside of the context of theatre.
At the end of his research the author describes relations and roles of the spectator in scenographic installation
Family delicacies: Who is my daughter?
This bachelor thesis is reflecting on a site specific project called Family delicacies: Who is my daughter? ? an event bordering on home theater, documentary theater, and performance art based on a story of two families that became merged through a birth of a baby. It was staged in the author´s apartment. However, the project also included an attempt to transfer this event from a private apartment to the theater space.
The work includes a description of the event itself, influences and examples of related similar projects from the contemporary art scene. The conclusion reflects on the importance and benefits of the project from the point of view of the author ? performer and her audience
Theatre in the landscape as an intermediary of its meanings
Táto práca vzniká ako reakcia na proces tvorby absolventského projektu SOLE. Jej autorka čerpá z vlastnej skúsenosti divadelnej tvorby situovanej v prímestskej krajine Prahy. Zhromažďuje a interpretuje postupy tvorby a divácke zážitky a hľadá v nich momenty, ktoré jej pomáhajú spätne lepšie zhodnotiť jednotlivé inscenačné rozhodnutia. Môže divadlo pomáhať človeku pocítiť významy ukotvené v krajine? A akými prostriedkami to dosahuje? This thesis is a reaction to the creative process of the SOLE graduation project. Its author draws on her own experiences of theater creation situated in the suburban landscape of Prague. She takes into account and interprets the creative processes and the audience's experiences and looks for moments in them that help her to evaluate individual staging decisions in retrospect. Can theater help a person to feel the meanings anchored in the landscape? And by what means does it achieve this
In memoriam: PROF. DR. DUŠKA SIMOVA-TOŠIĆ (1934–2018)
Professor Dr Duška Simova-Tošić, retired full-professor of entomology at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade, died on 19 June 2018.
In 1956, she graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Department of Biology, in Skopje. After completing her studies, she worked for one year as a curator-entomologist at the Natural History Museum in Skopje, and from 1958 to 1962 as an assistant at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Skopje. From 1962, she was employed as an assistant at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Belgrade, where, after moving up through all academic teaching levels, she worked as an entomologist until her retirement on October 1, 1999. At the same faculty, she obtained her MSc, and subsequently PhD. She defended her master’s thesis, “Contribution to knowledge of the harmful fauna of Cecidomyiidae of Serbia”, in 1964, and in 1969, she defended her doctoral dissertation entitled “Cecidomyiidae of Serbia and the importance of some morphological characters for its determination”. She was elected assistant professor in 1971, associate professor in 1977, and full professor in 1982. In 1968, she specialized in nematology at the Nematology Laboratory in Wageningen in the Netherlands, and on study tours in the USSR (1972) and the Netherlands (1973 and 1976).
During her time at the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade she lectured on the subject of Special Entomology and Insect Ecology at the Department for the Protection of Plants and Food Products, and Entomology at the Department of Farming. During her postgraduate studies in entomology, she gave lectures in the fields of Insect Physiology, Insect Systems and Entomology. She also taught Entomology at the Faculties of Agriculture in Skopje and Novi Sad, and in high schools in Vršac and Zrenjanin. She had a reputation as a strict teacher, but one that was respected by her students. In 1999, she was awarded an honorary professorship of the University “Saints Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje.
She mentored dozens of master’s theses and doctoral dissertations at the Faculties of Agriculture at the universities of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Skopje and Zagreb.
Professor Duška Simova-Tošić was dedicated to the teaching of students, and, as author or co-author, she organized a number of teaching aids: “Insect Determination Charts” (1969), “Insect Collection Handbook” (1969), “Practicum of Special Entomology” (1975 and 1995), scripts and textbooks on General Entomology (1985, 1987) and Special Entomology (1985, 1987). For students of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in Skopje she wrote the textbook “Environmental Entomology (Part I)”, Skopje (1987).
Her field of scientific interest was the study of gall midges (Cecidomyiidae), crane flies (Tipulidae and Limoniidae), and other species and groups of insects. Her main preoccupations were Cecidomyiidae and Tipulidae, which she studied from the aspect of systematics, taxonomy, development cycle, natural enemies, harmfulness and importance in plant production. Her work of many years within these taxonomic groups, which continued after her retirement, resulted in published monographs: “Crane Flies − Tipulidae (Diptera-Insecta)” in “Fauna of Macedonia III” (1977); “Tipulidae” (Insecta, Diptera) in “Fauna of Durmitor” (1987); “Atlas of Gall Midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae: Cecidomyiinae)” (2014), and as a special edition of the journal Acta entomologica Serbica, “Phytophagous Species of Gall Midges in Serbia, Diptera: Cecidomyiidae, Cecidomyiinae” (2016). Also, in agricultural entomology, she was the author of the chapter “Soybean Pests and Diseases” in the monograph “Soya − Production and Processing” (1995), and one of the authors of the Handbook on Quarantine and Pest Control (1980, Belgrade).
Depending on the subject of interest at a given time during her working life, Prof. Dr. Simova-Tošić took part in the realization of programs in several scientific research projects. She participated in scientific meetings and congresses at home and abroad. She developed strong scientific and professional cooperation with colleagues from all republics of ex-Yugoslavia and from abroad. However, her greatest scientific cooperation was with scientists studying Tipulidae and Cecidomyiidae from the former USSR, especially Ukraine, and from the Netherlands, Germany, England and Romania. Particular mention should be made of her close cooperation with the Czech entomologists Marcela Skuhravá and Václav Skuhravý, with whom she published a number of papers on the topic of Cecidomyiidae. The monograph “Cecidomyiidae Fauna in Europe and Asia 1955-2008” by Skuhravá and Skuhravý cites the results of Prof. Simova’s research on the number of established species of Cecidomyiidae, not only in Serbia, but also in all the republics of former Yugoslavia. Thanks to her dedicated work and exhaustive research, the fauna of Serbia’s gall midges is the best studied when compared to neighboring countries. Before retiring, Prof. Simova had established 283 species of gall midges in Serbia, but this was not the end of her activities and creative opus. After 2000, she published two monographs and eight scientific papers. According to the 2nd Annex to the knowledge of gall midges of Serbia published in 2008 in the journal “Bulletin of the Natural History Museum”, Belgrade, there are 19 species, 17 of which are new to Serbia, 5 to the fauna of gall midges of the Balkan Peninsula, and 4 are for the first time established for the former Yugoslav republics. With this data, and with another 24 species that have not been identified and for which it is reliably believed that they are new to science (as the author herself pointed out in her last paper), the total number of species that she identified during her life and work in Serbia was 326, among which there are invasive species, species that are new to the fauna of Serbia, new for the Balkan Peninsula and for Europe, and new to science. In addition to over a hundred scientific papers published in domestic and foreign journals and at domestic and foreign scientific conferences, Prof. Dr Duška Simova-Tošić has left behind a rich collection of insects and herbarium materials. During her lifetime, Prof. Simova deposited in and formally bequeathed to the Natural History Museum in Belgrade the collection “Diptera: Tipuloidea”, with a total of 146 species and 4143 specimens of Tipulidae, as well as a collection of herbaceous plants with Cecidomyiidae (“Herbarium cecidologicum Duška Simova”). The Limoniidae collection is kept at the Department of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology of the Institute of Phytomedicine at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Belgrade.
At the Faculty of Agriculture in Belgrade, Prof. Simova was an active member of many management boards and she was Head of the Department of Entomology and Director of the Institute for the Protection of Plants and Food Products (today called Phytomedicine). She was a member of the Yugoslav Entomological Society and the Plant Protection Society of Serbia, and a very active member of the Entomological Society of Serbia, which awarded her with a special certificate of thanks as a meritorious member in 2008. She was a member of the editorial board of the journal “Acta entomologica Serbica”.
Prof. Simova was serious, hardworking, systematic, strict, authoritative, committed to her scientific and pedagogical work, recognized and respected by her colleagues and students, and, above all, modest. Despite all her obligations and engagements, Prof. Simova found the time to return to her hometown of Skopje, where she loved going as often as she could.
We who knew Prof. Simova remember working together and socializing, as well as her curiosity and zeal until the last day of her life. All that she gave to science remains as a permanent and valuable legacy for future generations of entomologists
Cataphoric use of serbian impersonal genderless pronouns ovo, to, ono in cleft sentences
The objective of the paper is to analyze Serbian impersonal genderless
pronouns ovo, to, ono (this, it, that) from the perspective of their
cataphoric use and different distribution within clefts and pseudoclefts. The
author argues that the above pronouns have full semantic meaning in these
constructions. Their cataphoric use is based on the parameters of minimal
Distance and strong Unity (Accessibility Theory, ARIEL, 1990, 2001), while
the difference in distribution within clefts/pseudoclefts is triggered by
various cognitive statuses (GUNDEL, HEDBERG et al. 1993) that they create in
the mind of conversational participants
Učinki vitke proizvodnje v slaščičarskem podjetju v Srbiji
Background and Purpose: The objective of this paper was to evaluate effects of implementing lean manufacturing in a Serbian confectionery production company during a period of 24 months, emphasizing observed benefits and constrains. Company ‘case study’ is a leading confectionery producer in Serbia with annual production of more than 25,000 t.
Methodology/Approach: The research method was case study. The approach in implementing lean manufacturing was structured in five phases, as follows: (i) training, (ii) analysis of lean wastes on one technological line, (iii) choice of lean tools to be implemented in the factory, (iv) implementation of lean tools in production and maintenance, (v) development of continual improvement sector and further deployment of lean tools.
Results: Lean manufacturing tools implemented in the production process were visual control and single minute exchange of dies (SMED). Maintenance process implemented 5S with total productive maintenance (TPM) and problem solving sessions being the tools implemented in both processes. During the observed period, results of these tools showed the following: visual control tables initiated 61 improvement memos out of which 39% were fully implementeda total of 2284 minor problems had been recorded, with over 95% of issues revealed in due timetotal SMED time decreased for 7.6%19 problem solving sessions were initiated with 58% of solving effectiveness, and the remaining converted to on-going projects. In maintenance 5S improved from 29.9 to 60.3overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) indicator increased from 87.9% to 92.3%mean time between failure (MTBF) increased for 16.4%. Conclusion: As a result of all activities, 20 in-house trainings and 2 ‘kaizen’ events including motivational training have been initiated with 54 documents being revised and improved in order to contribute to more efficient processes.Ozadje in namen: Cilj članka je ovrednotiti učinke uvedbe vitke proizvodnje v slaščičarskem podjetju v Srbiji v obdobju 24 mesecev, s poudarkom na ugotovljenih pridobitvah in omejitvah. MAN, PLACE , MEMORY
Since its origin scenography has been situated among two arts (the visual art
and the performing art). Also the visual art itself has been since the 60's
of the 20th century in a similar position: experiences of living through as a part
of installation (environment since 50's) or focusing more on the action itself
(happening, event, performance). In my thesis I mention such examples, when
both of these creative worlds cross each other on borders. The themes
memory and place included in their works may consist at least of one of these
two main levels:
1.) art work with place and its specifics
2.) art work established on personal stories or sharing the experience
The most important for me are phenomenon of authenticity and personal
experience, (co)fealing and contextuality of the place. The buildings and
installations become scenes and scenographies at the same time. The happenings,
events, performances become the story. But these art approaches are
just shortly mentioned in my thesis, working more like roots, context with the
past in contemporary works. I prefer projects intensively close to life to the
artificial works. Whether it is about high experience level continuing to the
intimate dialogue or sharing the big stories, memory and places, it is done in the
context of time-based media, mental maps, site specific, memory, space/site,
path, memories and someone who reads (in) it and (re)interpretates that.
In my author diploma art project I work with a phenomenon of Being on
a visit. Which are the differences and when does it come to coherence among
the two key moments — being (still) on a visit and to (already) feel like
at home? I´m searching for way how to reflect the place/site, using memory
not only of that place/site, but also of the people who knew it — and transforming
their interpretations from different personal stories or deformations of the
reality (propaganda, idealisation). I focus to make a new environment/landscape,
transported to another context. In my art work I am trying to use almost all tools
for portraiting the reality. Painting, photography, video, installation, sound,
environment, drawing, projection, text, food, performance, dance, ritual and me
as the main creator of the dialogue with the visitors
