Manuel Puig: un destino melodramático
El trabajo es un extracto de una larga investigación en los archivos del escritor argentino Manuel Puig, la génesis de su producción y su relación con el campo intelectual internacional. En este extracto se presenta un estudio del uso del melodrama en la producción 'espectacular' del autor y la publcación de un inédito que incluí como primicia en 1996 en la revista Orbis Tertius No. 2, Centro de Teoría y Crítica Literaria, UNLP.The work is an extract of one long recherch in the archives of the Argentine writer Manuel Puig, the genesis of its production and its relation with international the intellectual field. In this extract is analyzed the use of the melodrama in “the spectacular” production of the author. Joan Puig i Ferreter: director literari d'Edicions Proa a l'exili (1948-1956)
Aquesta tesi estudia el paper de Joan Puig i Ferreter (1882-1956) al capdavant de la direcció literària d’Edicions Proa a l’exili. El treball, que s’estructura en dues parts, analitza el període de 1948 a 1956, això és, d’ençà de l’acceptació de la represa de l’editorial des de la diàspora a l’estat francès i fins a la mort de Puig. En primer lloc, s’ofereix un estudi panoràmic de la continuació de l’editorial a Perpinyà i de la tasca de l’escriptor i de l’editor i fundador Josep Queralt i Clapés (1896-1965), principalment. S’analitzen els motius de la represa i el paper que hi exerceix Puig com a autor, com a mecenes i com a director literari. En segon lloc, s’editen els epistolaris inèdits de Puig amb diversos corresponsals (principalment amb Josep Carner, Domènec Guansé i Xavier Benguerel), derivats de la tasca que l’escriptor exerceix a Edicions Proa. Així, s’anoten més d’un centenar de lletres del director literari en dos blocs: un primer, el principal, amb els autors de la represa editorial i un segon, menor, que recull les propostes de col·laboració que no es duen a terme.Esta tesis estudia el papel de Joan Puig i Ferreter (1882-1956) al frente de la dirección literaria de Edicions Proa en el exilio. El trabajo, que se estructura en dos partes, analiza el periodo de 1948 a 1956: desde la aceptación de reanudar la actividad editorial en la diáspora en el estado francés y hasta la muerte de Puig. En primer lugar, se ofrece un estudio panorámico de la continuación de la editorial en Perpinyà y de la tarea del escritor y del editor y fundador Josep Queralt i Clapés (1896-1965), principalmente. Se analizan los motivos de la reanudación y el papel que desempeña Puig como autor, como mecenas y como director literario. En segundo lugar, se editan los epistolarios inéditos de Puig con varios corresponsales (principalmente con Josep Carner, Domènec Guansé y Xavier Benguerel), derivados de la tarea que el escritor ejerce en Edicions Proa. Así, se anotan más de un centenar de letras del director literario en dos bloques: un primer apartado, el principal, con los autores de la reanudación editorial y un segundo, menor, que recoge las propuestas de colaboración no llevadas a cabo.This thesis examines the role of Joan Puig i Ferreter (1882-1956) as the literary director of Edicions Proa in exile. The study, which is structured in two parts, analyses the period from 1948 to 1956, that is, from the agreement to resume the publishing in France during the Republican diaspora to the year of Puig’s death. The first part is a panoramic study of the continuation of the company’s activity in Perpignan and Puig’s work as a writer and of the editor and founder of Proa, Josep Queralt i Clapés (1896-1965). It examines the reasons behind the decision to resume publishing and the role that Puig played in this activity as an author, patron and literary director. The second part reveals unpublished correspondence between Puig and several important literary figures (principally Josep Carner, Domènec Guansé and Xavier Benguerel) in the exercise of his role at Edicions Proa. More than one hundred letters from the company’s literary director are presented, in two groups: the first, and largest, contains correspondence exchanged with the authors involved in the renewal of editorial activity, while the second documents proposals for collaboration that did not come to fruition

Automatic estimation of the number of deformation modes in non-rigid SfM with missing data
This paper proposes a new algorithm to estimate automatically the number of deformation modes needed to describe a non-rigid object with the well-known low-rank shape model, focusing on the missing data case. The 3D shape is assumed to deform as a linear combination of K rigid shape bases according to time varying coefficients. One of the requirements of this formulation is that the number of bases must be known in advance. Most non-rigid structure from motion (NRSfM) approaches based on this model determine the value of K empirically. Our proposed approach is based on the analysis of the frequency spectra of the x and y coordinates corresponding to the individual image trajectories, which are seen as 1D signals. The frequency content of the 2D trajectories is encoded using the modulus of the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) of the signals. Our hypothesis is that the value of K that gives the best prediction of the missing data also provides the best 3D reconstruction. Our proposed approach does not assume any prior knowledge and is independent of the 3D reconstruction algorithm used. Once the work of Pau Puig has been published in Catalan, I feel convenient
to make available a short sample of his work in Spanish to both readers and scholars.
Pau Puig used to write both in Catalan and in Spanish, like other Catalan authors from the
same period.
We are now publishing four poems clearly showing his style and his favourite subjects.
Some brief notes on his biography are also included, along with the enumeration of his
works.Una vez publicada la obra en catalán de Pau Puig (2012), me parece conveniente
poner a disposición de los lectores y estudiosos una pequeña muestra de la obra
en castellano de este autor que, como muchos otros literatos catalanes de su época, escribía
tanto en catalán como en castellano.
Después de unas breves pinceladas biográficas y de la enumeración de las obras que
le podemos atribuir, editamos cuatro poemas representativos de su estilo y de sus preferencias
temáticas
Manuel Puig: ouvir vozes
En esta exposición he partido de la interacción con los participantes del curso que realicé en junio de 2020 en el Museo de Arte Popular de Buenos Aires sobre la novela Boquitas pintadas de Manuel Puig. A partir de la pregunta de por qué en las dos primeras novelas de este autor no existían referencias políticas, en la investigación derivada de este tema llegamos a la conclusión de que tanto la obra de los inicios de Puig, como en el caso de su octava novela, partieron de las voces escuchadas y grabadas en su infancia. Los diálogos de un mundo femenino, encerrado en las vicisitudes sólo de la vida cotidiana, le dieron al autor los elementos para consolidar uno de sus mayores logros: una verosimilitud en la transcripción del lenguaje oral que ningún otro autor argentino había logrado antes.In this lecture I started thinking of the interaction with the participants of the course I taught in June 2020 at the Museum of Popular Art of Buenos Aires about the novel Boquitas pintadas by Manuel Puig. From the question of why in the first two novels of this author there were no political references, the research derived from this theme comes to the conclusion that both the work of Puig's beginnings, as in the case of his eighth novel, came from the voices heard and recorded in his childhood. The dialogues of a female world, closed in the vicissitudes only of everyday life, gave the author the elements to consolidate one of his greatest achievements: a verisimilitude in the transcription of oral language that no other Argentine author had achieved before.Na presente exposição eu pensei focar a interação com os participantes do curso por mim ministrado em junho de 2020 no Museu de Arte Popular de Buenos Aires sobre o romance Boquitas pintadas de Manuel Puig. A partir do questionamento sobre porque nos dois primeiros romances deste autor não havia referências políticas, as pesquisas derivadas desse tema chegam à conclusão de que tanto a obra dos primórdios de Puig, como no caso de seu oitavo romance, originavam nas vozes ouvidas e gravadas em sua infância. Os diálogos de um mundo feminino, encerrado nas vicissitudes apenas do cotidiano, deram ao autor os elementos para consolidar uma de suas maiores conquistas: uma verossimilhança na transcrição da linguagem oral que nenhum outro autor argentino havia alcançado antes.Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educació
An embodied-simplexity approach to design humanoid robots bioinspired by taekwondo athletes
We are investigating new approaches to design and develop embodied humanoid robots with predictive behaviour in the real world. Our approaches are strongly based on the symbiotic interaction between the concepts of the embodied intelligence and simplexity that enables us to reproduce the artificial body in symbiosis with its intelligence. The research is based on the study of martial arts athletes and their planned movements. In particular, the taekwondo martial art competition where anticipation and adaptive behaviours are key points is used as a vehicle to address conceptual and design issues. The expected outcome will be the development of a robot that will have the capability to anticipate an opponent's actions by coordinating eyes, head and legs, with a stable body constituted by an embodied platform bioinspired by the taekwondo athletes. © 2014 Springer-Verlag

Developing biorobotics for veterinary research into cat movements
Collaboration between veterinarians and other professionals such as engineers and computer scientists will become important in biorobotics for both scientific achievements and the protection of animal welfare. Particularly, cats have not yet become a significant source of inspiration for new technologies in robotics. This article suggests a novel approach for the investigation of particular aspects of cat morphology, neurophysiology, and behavior aimed at bridging this gap by focusing on the versatile, powerful locomotion abilities of cats and implementing a robotic tool for the measurements of biological parameters of animals and building cat-inspired robotic prototypes. The presented framework suggests the basis for the development of novel hypotheses and models describing biomechanics, locomotion, balancing system, visual perception, as well as learning and adaption of cat motor skills and behavior. In subsequent work, the resulting models will be tested and evaluated in simulated and real experiments and validated with specific experimental data gathered from cats. This methodology has application in several areas including dynamic models and artificial vision systems. From an ethical point of view, this approach is in line with the 3R principles: the detailed and integrated systems will allow us to study a small number of cats (reduction) for the implementation of noninvasive tools such as electromyography and gaze analysis (refinement), which will make the construction of a substitute to experiments on living cats (replacement) easier. For instance, bioinspired prototypes could be used to test how specific visual and physical impairment in cats (up to partial or total blindness, loss of a leg, and so forth) change their walking and jumping abilities. This modus operandi may pave the way for a new generation of research in the veterinary field. Moreover, the measurement tools to be developed will constitute an achievement per se as for the first time visual, muscular, and gait analysis of cats will be integrated, and this will help to improve the rehabilitation procedures for cats and other nonhuman animals
