Water-related perceived harms and pro-environment behaviours: A taxonomy of EU citizens
The chapter aims at proposing a taxonomy of citizens based on their attitudes towards water-related issues. Water is a multi-faced environmental resource, that represents at the same time a basic input for human life and a threat to human safety (e.g. water-related extreme events) and health (e.g. contamination of freshwater). Water use and water-related services are not fully rival and excludable in consumption, which leads to over-exploitation and failure to consider positive externalities. In this study, we identify the likely link between the perception of the 'public' component of water-related uses and services and the attitude of EU citizens towards private and public mitigation and preservation measures. Results are based on a cluster analysis on a representative sample of more than 25 thousand EU citizens collected in the Flash Eurobarometer survey No. 344 (March 2012). The study also provides a typical profile in terms of location, age, education, and occupation for each of the different categories of citizens with the aim of understanding the ultimate drivers of pro-water behaviors (or absence thereof)

Daughter of fortune: Isabel Allende's popularity from a readership perspective
The primary aim of this thesis is to explore and critically interrogate Isabel Allende’s popularity cross-culturally in Britain and Spain. It analyses readers’ responses to Allende’s works as well as the discourses surrounding her public representation, an approach that is ‘readerly’ but must also take account of production and text. This approach is intended to further the understanding of Allende’s work which so far has always been analysed from a textual perspective. However, the relationship between Allende’s popularity, her texts, public representation and readers has not been yet analysed in detail. This thesis is innovative in other ways too. Methodologically, it approaches readers through the under studied cultural form of the reading group. It also incorporates a comparative dimension by looking at the reception of Allende in two different cultural contexts: the British and Spanish respectively. Finding out about Allende’s popularity has involved asking readers about their reading experiences as well as analysing the production of discourses around her public representation. Paul Ricoeur’s (1984, 1988) perspective on authorial intentions and readers’ responses to texts helps in understanding the intricacies surrounding what is involved in reading any text. It draws attention to Allende’s and her publishers’ authorial strategies, her ‘strategies of persuasion’ and the specificity of the lives and contexts of British and Spanish reading publics. Equally, this ‘readerly’ approach draws on feminist audience research and primarily on the work of Ien Ang and Janice Radway. Their work with viewers and readers respectively is particularly useful in establishing and developing methodological parameters for the study of reading groups. As a whole, this thesis contributes to the understanding of Allende’s cross-cultural popularity by situating readers at the centre

Amy Isabel Conway
Amy Isabel Conway was a boarding house keeper and a foundation member of the Country Women's Association. Her husband was a drover and she often travelled with him through out the Northern Territory. On his death, she returned to Darwin where she made a living out of taking in laundry, cooking at the hospital and providing meals and accommodation to the single men in town. Amy Conway was known as a strong woman who had a hard and sad life as she had buried three husbands. When she died the ladies of the Country Women's Association paid tribute to her by purchasing the headstone.

Daughter of King D. Pedro III of Aragon and wife to the sixth King of Portugal D. Dinis, Isabel of Aragon, canonized by the Catholic Church, has been the subject of innumerable historiographical studies, as well as biographies and historical novels about her life.
Taking into account that contemporaneity is still looking for medieval figures and myths, both historical novels and biographies promote various narratives about this period, reconstructing and highlighting the historical past.
This survey intends to present a comparative vision about Queen Saint Isabel, as was conveyed by four works: the text edited in 1921 by José Joaquim Nunes Vida e Milagres de Dona Isabel, Rainha de Portugal (Life and Miracles of Dona Isabel, Queen of Portugal); the romance by Vitorino Nemésio Isabel de Aragão rainha Santa (Isabel of Aragon Holy Queen), edited in 2002; the 2014 biography by Maria Filomena Andrade intitled Isabel de Aragão Rainha Santa, Mãe Exemplar (Isabel of Aragon Holy Queen, Exemplary Mother); and, finaly, the 2016 historical romance by Isabel Machado A Rainha Santa (The Holy Queen). We have tried to rebuild an image of this personality, focusing on her double facet, historical and fictional / mythic. In this sense, we have analyzed, above all, the way Literature has appropriated historical data, presenting the different authors’ descriptions about the events Queen Saint Isabel had lived through, in order to appreciate the originality of the various authors in their approach to her life
